Who needs Snowby Briarfields (5 out of 5 stars)

Snow is not very dependable in this part of the world, but my grand-kids no longer care. The ice sled may not be a perfect substitute, but it is an alternative and thats all that matters.
Broke on first ride.

This review is vased on using the sled on a grassy hill.
1) It breaks I am right at 200 lbs, and it cracked on the first run. Three more runs and it was cracked 3/4 of its length, with sharp plastic pieces sticking out... dangerous! And yes, I bought this for my kid. But she wouldn't ride it until I did. So it needs to be engineered more sturdy.
2) foot rests are insufficient. I kept flying over the front when it hit a bump. And those handles are a joke.
3) the ice block makes a hard edge that catches on things... causing rider to go flying out front.
Fabulous fun!

This is a fabulous all-weather sled! We live in Houston and used this sled for the first time today when it was sunny and the temperature was in the upper 60s-the ice trays were still going after an hour of straight sledding! it did get faster and run more smoothly after several runs but I was amazed how well it worked and how much fun it was!!!!
great fun

Ice Meister Slicer All-Season Sled (Blue)
We received a Slicer Sled as a gift, and liked it so much that we recently purchased a second one.
As far as a snow sled goes, I would say it's actually one of the better ones out there. My husband was able to ride it together with our 5 year-old son, so it's big enough to accommodate two people (as long as one of them is pretty small) and it seems to handle the weight OK, cushioning the bumps rather nicely. The Slicer does have runners, but it behaves more like a toboggan than a flexible flyer that you can steer. If definitely went faster and further down the hill than the tubes and foam board sleds. Taller people will probably wish for a longer tow rope, and the rear door (that provides access to the hollow inside where the ice trays are stored when not in use) tends to flop open during use (which can result in a little snow getting inside when you are snow sledding).
Sledding on grass, however, is what makes the Slicer unique, and is the reason we decided to purchase a second one. The first thing you should know is that you need to have the right conditions for it to work well on grass. With our 5 year-old in mind, the first time we tried it on grass we went to a pretty gentle hill and found that we couldn't even get the sled to go. You need a pretty steep hill. If you can find one with smooth and short grass, that works even better. And if the grass is wet (like after a rain or once the melting ice makes the grass wet after a few runs), the Slicer will really go - just as fast as it will on snow. The sled does tend to spin sideways and even turn backwards when sledding on grass. Our 5 year-old didn't like that, but that will probably add to the thrill for older kids. Temperatures were in the 60's both days we used the sled on grass, and the ice blocks lasted nearly an hour - which was plenty of sledding time for us. However, it might make sense to purchase an additional set of ice trays for sledding in the summer, as the ice is likely to melt much faster when it's hot outside.
The ice blocks were relatively easy to attach to the sled, but they can be a real pain to remove from their container/mold unless you first let the ice melt for a while (which we expedited by running them under warm water after removing them from the freezer). Because the grid (that becomes frozen inside the ice and is the thing that attaches to the sled) protrudes from the ice block container/mold, the ice trays aren't completely water-tight; so unless you keep the ice trays really level, expect to spill a little water when you initially put them into the freezer. The ice tray lids are a little flimsy - definitely not high-end Tupperware quality, but do keep the water in (when the trays are level) and allow you to stack the ice trays on top of each other in your freezer. We had no problem fitting them inside our average-sized side-by-side refrigerator/freezer. We found that it took almost 2 days to adequately freeze a set, so you'll definitely want to plan ahead.
Overall, our experience with the Slicer has been very positive. It's not perfect and it is pretty expensive, but we don't often get snow, so to be able to go sledding whenever we want year round is pretty cool!
Fun & Pricey

Purchased this to use on grassy hills in the summer. It works exactly as expected/described. The ice packs are fairly easy to prepare & assemble, and the ride is smooth & fun. On an average warm day my kids got 10 rides down a large hill before it got too melty & grassy. You have to figure that includes getting the sled back up the hill though - it's kind of a heavy product, especially for kids, so the ice had time to melt on the way up too.
The plastic is a little cheap on the outside, we had a chipped off piece from the shipping alone, but nothing that impacted the use of the sled. I find the price a bit high for what you get (would rate higher if less expensive) but all in all, it's an awesome idea & a fun product.
Fun, sturdy sled even with no snow

So fun! My 4 year old loves it. We live in Texas and it was so fun to actually sled with no snow. Sled seems solid and well made. Easy to put the ice on the bottom of it and we got in about 45 minutes of sledding. Crossing my fingers we can try it in snow this winter!
** UPDATE 1 year later**
This thing is still really working well and we did get to try it on snow- for about 6 hours before it melted. Really slides well and my 200+ pound husband has ridden on it. It says it is limited to around 150lbs but it handled him fine. It is a great idea for us Southern States folks!

Terrible. Arrived late, son tried it once and it shattered. Now Amazon shows I can't return it. Money wasted. It was the only thing he asked me for Christmas. 💔
fun but tough to get ice tray on it

my daughter plays with this a lot during the summer. Very fun and you definitely get some momentum going down grassy hills. My complaint is that the tray that holds the ice is VERY tough to put on. We actually broke one handle grip trying to push the tray in place. I ended up putting less water in the tray than recommended and it was still difficult. I had to take a stake and apply pressure to the latch alone so it would snap in place without shattering the ice. Otherwise, you are putting all pressure on the ice itself, which caused the ice to crack and break off once. There goes a day of no sledding because it takes a while for that much water to freeze solid. Otherwise, a very fun product and they play outside with it for over an hour.

So far, we have only used the sled in winter, but it is light weight, fast and easy for my 4 and 6 year old grandchildren to use. We are looking forward to using them on the grass this summer to ice block.
