Product Description

The Eagle yellow blow-molded HDPE lab pack drum comes with a screw-on lid, has a 20-gallon capacity, and can be used to store, transport, and dispose of small, intact containers of hazardous materials and help contain spills. The drum is made of yellow HDPE (high-density polyethylene), which weighs less than steel, is resistant to dents, punctures, and certain chemicals, and may be incinerated. The drum is blow-molded for wall strength and thinness. Ultraviolet (UV) inhibitors minimize fading and discoloring. Full drums can be stacked up to three high. The drum has a storage capacity of 20 gallons, weighs 13 lb., and measures approximately 20-3/4" high and 20-1/2" in diameter. It is suitable for holding containers with a capacity of 5 gallons or less.

This product meets U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulation 173.12(b), Hazardous Material Regulation 181 (HM-181), and United Nations (UN) standards concerning the packaging and shipping of hazardous materials. It can be used to store or transport hazardous materials in Packing Groups I, II, or III defined in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). It complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulation 177.1520 regarding food contact surfaces. It meets Underwriters Laboratories (UL) standard 94 concerning the flammability of plastic materials. This item has a United Nations (UN) specification marking of 1H2/X57/S. (1H2 is the packaging code for a plastic open-head drum; X is the performance level and indicates that the product has met tests for Packing Groups I, II, and III; 57 indicates the maximum gross mass in kilograms; and S is a designation for solids.)

Hazardous storage drums are used to safely store, transport, and dispose of hazardous materials. They are typically made of polyethylene or steel. Open-head drums have a removable lid and can store hazardous solids or liquids. Closed-head drums have a fixed top, can store hazardous liquids, and have bung holes for filling and pouring. Salvage drums, also known as overpack drums and recovery drums, can be used to store and transport smaller containers that hold hazardous materials and that are damaged or leaking. Certain drums may be incinerated along with the waste itself. Hazardous storage drums may meet U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and other federal regulations and United Nations (UN) guidelines regarding the storage and shipment of hazardous materials. Hazardous storage drums are often assigned a UN code to indicate the container type, performance level, specific gravity, hydrostatic test pressure, and other information. Hazardous storage drums are used in a variety of industries involved with manufacturing, shipping, and environmental services.

Eagle Manufacturing Company manufactures industrial safety, haz-mat, and storage products that meet International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards for quality assurance. The company, founded in 1894, is headquartered in Wellsburg, VA.

Perfect size for fermenting whole heads of cabbage
by A.Z. (5 out of 5 stars)

Perfect size for fermenting whole heads of cabbage. Make sure to use non-iodized salt. That is key to getting perfect non-slimy brine. Use 1 tablespoon (standard measuring spoon) to one liter of water. Use more rather than less. A little horseradish root, quince - 2 or 3 pieces sliced (for color), some dill stalks with seed. I used the larger 30 gallon version of this barrel with flat head cabbage (total of 18 pieces). Came out perfect in about three weeks at room temperature. I used this 20 gallon barrel with larger, much heavier type of cabbage (9 large heads) and 18 gallons of water. I stored at room temperature for at least 6 weeks. So much better tasting then typical sauerkraut and perfect for cabbage rolls. I especially like the lid on these containers. With a small piece of 2x4 cut to size you can open and close lid very tightly. I removed the black foam gasket tape from the inside of lid though. That's absolutely not food safe. I was so happy to find these containers. Beats fermenting cabbage in small 5 gallon buckets. Even with all that weight I can move it around slightly and it feels solid as a rock. I will buy again in the future as gift for relatives. One last thought: The container and the lid both have minor plastic flash and relatively sharp edges from molding process. Amazon sells plastic deburring tool (about six bucks) which will clean out the edges nicely. You will then have a perfect container.

Fermentor

I bought 2 of these as fermentors for my sour mash. The capacity works well for a keg boiler. That grain is fermenting away with plenty of head room so I don't have blow-outs during vigorous fermenting.

Cheers,

Perfect size for fermenting large batches of wine

Perfect size for fermenting large batches of wine. Sure beats lots of 5 gallon buckets. A piece of 2x4 and you can open and close lid very tightly. I removed the black foam because it's not food safe. This thing is heavy duty. I would for sure not hesitate to buy again.

cannot return this item. Had a bad gasket on the lid. my problem now.

the gasket on the lid was not installed correctly. In fact, it looked like a five year old put it on. (pic 1&2) not only did it not travel around the outer edge like it was suppose to, it was to short for me to redo it. I had to use some old weather stripping to cover the gap after I correctly positioned the gasket it came with. (pic 3) Will probably cost a third of the original product to properly replace the gasket. If you want a good seal be prepared to shell out a couple of extra dollars to make that happen. hope this was helpful.

Great bucket. Converted mine into a livewell for my boat. The lid is a bit tricky to use but once there is weight in the the bucket it's obviously easier.

WRONG SIZE IN DISCRIPTION

NOT THE SIZE THATS IN THE DESCRIPTION.

THE LID IS 20.5. The actual diameter of the tub opening is 18. 16 at the bottom. Other than that it's a very nice container.

I am using these as horse feeders. I love the screw on lid. Makes refilling a breeze. I also like that the company realized the lid might get stuck and provided an alternative to opening it.
