Product Description

Launce Barber and Tom Stokes designed the patented* Guppie as part of our innovative I.D. Works line of tools. While some think it's cute, it really is a hard-working carabiner tool with dozens of everyday uses.

The adjustable wrench jaw opens to 1/2" so you can use it for all kinds of light repair and assembly jobs .Thanks to the carabiner gate, the Guppie is easy to carry on a belt loop, D-ring, pack or rope. (But it is not a weight-bearing carabiner.)

The high-carbon stainless steel blade with a Razor-Sharp edge can be opened and closed with one hand using the blade slot. The removable bit carrier is also a high-intensity LED light. It has two strong magnets to hold it securely to the Guppie's left side. The stainless steel clip will hold the Guppie in your pocket or on gear, which gives a lot of versatility.

The Guppie makes a great little money clip, too, for those who like to keep a thin wallet. One more trick: The Guppie carabiner detent will open bottle caps and metal jar lids.

I thought Columbia River Knife and Tools would have made a better product. I am very disappointed with the "Guppie". The carabiner does not open and close smoothly. It seems like the moving gate isn't aligned properly. The adjustable wrench operates poorly. The knurled opening/closing adjustment wheel binds easily preventing the wrench from operating smoothly. Various parts rattle and seem loose. But the worst thing about the Guppie is that the knife blade does not lock in the open position. This make using the knife needlessly dangerous. All in all, the Guppie is cheaply made and not worth $25. Columbia River K & T needs to use better manufacturing, better quality control and put a damn lock on the blade.

CRKT makes a decent product for a company that produces most of its products in China, the Guppie should work great for light tasks wich is its intended purpose. If you try to break loose a rusted nut something is probably going to give and it most likely wont be the nut. There are very few options for a tool with an adjustable wrench and since Spyderco discontinued theirs this one is probably the best and deffinently the most compact. A locking knife blade would have been a plus.

The knife itself is good, the wrench is reliable.

The hex bit set is held on magnetically, the hex bits are held in the set unreliably by friction. This set up is uncomfortable for holding the knife. If you put the set on the other way, the carabiner function pushes the bits out if you use it to hold anything or clip onto anything.

The hex bit holder on the end is unstable, loosely holds the bits.

The belt clip performs admirably, it's very sturdy and holds well.

The LED light button pushes in from outside, can be pushed accidentally very easily. It isn't a switch, so it doesn't drain the battery very much, but I would prefer a side-button or switch instead. The LED itself is about bright enough for a watch glow function, so I could find the right key on a key ring, but not my keys.

I would have designed it differently.

Coolest multi-tool ever.

I work for a tool supply company- I see tools all day, every day- this is just the neatest thing.

Great functions for the price- seems very sturdy and well built.

The bit holder is secured with two "posts" and a very strong magnet.

Bit holder includes two phillips and two flat head- but can be swapped with any standard drive bit you wish.

Adjustable wrench is great.

Knife blade is probably the weakest part of the tool- no locking mechanism, but if you need a sturdy knife- get a real purpose built folder. The knife is plenty sharp and good for little odd cutting jobs.

Key Carabiner

I bought this mainly as a carabiner to hold my keys. The key ring slips in nicely to the hole on the wrench blade. I wanted to have a few other tools on me as you never know when you'll need a knife, bottle opener, etc. I'm pretty bummed out by the bottle opener on this -- it will work in a pinch, but it took more effort than it should have, and it actually chipped the glass of the bottle opening, which is something I've never had happen with any other bottle opener. It looks cool and will work in a pinch.

I'd give this product a solid 2.5 stars if I could.

It's definitely a kitschy kind of tool. The jaws on the wrench opens and closes with minimal use. Just seems loose. All the attachments are nice, but it's hard to do much with them or the wrench because you can't get very much leverage. It's a great size and has some versatility for it's size, but you'd be better off carrying a Gerber/Leatherman and a high quality flashlight as an EDC. This little guy has his place, but that will only be as a last resort, barring the catastrophic loss of the rest of my essentials.

Power to the Mini tools.

Yes, indeed. Power to the mini tools, the get-it-done-when-nothing-else-is-around little gadgets and tools we Americans buy somewhat foolishly, but with good intent. Likewise, my buying this was a slightly foolish attempt, but a good one nonetheless, at becoming the get-it-done types that work day in, day out. And, low and behold, I helped my mother assemble with my black Guppie the moment it came out of the box, a small shoe storage unit. It is made of good quality steel, hence the slightly exorbitant price for such a small tool, and everything about it is FUNCTIONAL, not pretty, nor useless. It simply works, and works well. The only flaws are: the carabiner is not weight bearing suitable, the knife is carbon steel, so keep it oiled or it WILL rust, and using the screwdriver is sometimes difficult because the carabiner function is there to get in your way. But it is sturdy, and if you use it, it will serve you well. I personally, recommend it for everyone to own, because it combines multiple functions into the smallest size I have seen yet, multiple useful functions, I might add. Thank you to all the reviewers who put me onto this great product, it is well worth it to have a Guppie hanging from your belt at all times, except when around police, as the knife is also a weapon. Careful of that last one, everyone, and save up for this one, it is a beauteous tool.

Cool Multi-Tool, but its not perfect

Really cool multi-tool, I use it as a key chain and can't say how many times I was glad to have it. I like the color, feel and weight as it feels pretty sturdy. I have gotten a lot of compliments when I would pull it out to use. There are a couple of downsides though, first it is a little limited in terms of functionality. The wrench for example only expands to half an inch and the knife does not lock, but this hasn't been much of an issue. Additionally, the drill bits are extremely useful, but even with the strong magnetic attachment it falls out somewhat often when pulling it out of my pocket.

This knife is neat, but a bit impractical. The bits on the side fall off incessantly. The knife is sharp, but pretty small. The wrench does not stay in place without you holding the adjustment screw. The carabiner is nice. It's a decent quality metal. But the impracticality of this knife has relegated it to my tackle box where it is very useful. Don't get this thinking you're going to carry it around, you will definitely lose the bits. But it's great for a fishing tool.

I have to say for the size of the Gupie I was expecting some half-A**ed poor aluminum or sheet metal tool. Instead I was surprised at how Columbia didn't cut any corners with their product. It is robust, the bits will not strip (maybe with incredible force but most screws strip at that point before this will), the wrench is extremely well done, and the blade is scary sharp. It would be months before I could find another tool that was of the same caliber for 20 bucks.

The only real reason I didn't rate a 5 is because I am in constant fear of loosing the detachable light/magnet/bit holder. You can flip it around, so you either are scratching your hand grabbing the bits, or in fear that the bit holder will pop off as it swings when you use the carabiner. To it's credit, it hasn't popped off yet and the light is very bright. This tool also single handedly took apart my brother's stereo and replaced it in the dark. I highly recommend this item, but note it is rather heavy (not cumbersome).
