Update 01-2018: I haven't been using the tongs much the last few months, since having to remember to pull on the tab before putting them down was annoying. Despite not being used more than occasionally the locking mechanism is now completely useless & the tongs pop open almost immediately when put down.

Update 11-2017: I now need to "help" the locking mechanism by pinching the black base and pulling it outward, away from the tongs before setting them down. If I do not take this extra step, the tongs will sometimes snap open when set down, or sometime thereafter (often flinging food particles). Since this weakness in the mechanism is easily sidestepped with a relatively simple step, I'm still using the tongs. But I can't hand them to a random kitchen helper without giving out silly instructions about how to make it work properly-which is a stupid problem to have. So I cannot recommend them. Obviously this may also be the first symptom of a problem which will get worse (as happened with my original set-see review below).

Update 9-2017: As others have noted, the manufacturer made a surprise offer of a free pair of their redesigned tongs some 3 years after my review. Surprised this day&age by any sort of proactive customer service, I took them up on it! I received my new tongs promptly and completely free of charge. They have held up well over the past two months. As noted before these tongs offer a compelling combination of features. The rubberized tips prevent scratching of surfaces and help reduce inadvertent damage to delicate foods; but are stiff enough to be used to deglaze a pan-which means they can be used as a general cooking utensil. The shape of the handles does allow them to sit nicely on the counter. The stamped metal is light and feels a bit cheap and there is a fair amount of play between the two handles. The joint end has an exposed spring which makes it a bit difficult to wash by hand. None of this negatively affects their use and at this price point that aren't serious issues, but I would happily pay more for a product that combined these features with nicer materials and tighter tolerances.

Original review: I loved these tongs for the first few weeks I had them. Sit up design means you can set them down almost anywhere without worrying about the tips picking up contaminates - great for multitasking. Click lock is east to operate one-handed - just press against the counter (I open them against my chest when working over the grill). Easy to clean, easy to grip and hold on well to most everything I'm inclined to try tongs with. Couldn't ask for a better mix of features . . .

Unfortunately after a few weeks the locking mechanism has almost completely failed. The tongs now spring open at the slightest provocation. Lock them and then try to set them down on the counter and they snap right open, usually flinging bits of food/sauce some distance in two or more directions. I've stopped bothering to lock them at all (to avoid the mess) - so now they take up a ton of space wherever I set them. Too large to go on the stove between burners. I have a small kitchen so, petty as it may sound, this is a real drawback for me. As such I rarely use them anymore, reaching instead for the Oxo's they had initially replaced.

Best Tongs To Buy

I love the way these tongs grabs onto and holds onto meats I am cooking. It makes it easy to turn over meats when frying. The bend in the handle insures that the end of the tongs do not touch the counter top. The silicone ends are perfect for holding onto meats and vegetables. Imhighly recommend this tool. I liked it so much that I bought a second tong with longer handles.

Great at first, lock fails soon

I loved this when I first received it, the way it sits on the counter and locks without a second hand. Unfortunately the locking mechanism wears out and starts to fail pretty quickly. I do not recommend buying this if you expect the locking mechanism to work longer than a month or two. It's too bad really, because if the locking mechanism didn't fail it would be great.

Does Not Work as Advertised

No hook for hanging. Closing is not always easy. Falls over so it does not work as advertised. Don't buy it. It does not 'stand up' on the counter unless you leave the tongs open.

It works but the quality feels very cheap, like its not steel and it does not feel durable especially for what you are paying. Also the click-lock is does not work properly takes a few clicks before the darn thing actually opens. I'm pretty disappointing and honestly this was my tester because I wanted to buy other products by dreamfarm because they look amazing and innovative but after this one I question buying the rest.

**UPDATE: Orginally this was a 1 star review*** I would still take my old review into consideration when ordering from Amazon. If the quality seems off, it might be a defective example of the product. The Clongs themselves should be good. The company sent me a replacement pair, and they were perfect like my originals.***

I had this brand of tongs previously, which I bought at Marshall's. I loved them, but my old ones unfortunately broke after 6 years of use (the silicone tip started pulling away from the metal, letting gunk get inside). I love the click mechanism on those tongs (on the end vs the side), so I wanted to buy the exact same ones. The ones that arrived from Amazon were a disappointment though.. the click mechanism didn't work well, and the tong tips didn't align properly.

The button stopped working 5 minutes after receiving them. I bought this for my wife because the needed some new tongs and these looked very nice. I opened the box and was showing her how cool they were when the button stopped working, she was not impressed..

Very stylish and very clever design in handles. Alas, 18 months in and I have encountered the same issue with the latching mechanism. At this point these things are pretty useless, at least for their intended purpose.

Review written just after receiving the product.

Dreamfarm -- you design such beautiful & useful products. The Mini-Supoon is fantastic and very useful. I have about two more because I like them so much. Based on that experience, I ordered the 12-inch Clongs. But when I opened the package, I was saddened by the sharp feel of the handles. These Clongs will be used for cooking, when speed is of the essence. When grabbing these tools, the ends of the Clongs feel wonderful and soft. But the metal in between the two ends of this tool has sharp edges and will likely hurt those with dry skin or sensitive hands. Please take a look at the manufacturer of the Clongs and see if they can do a better job with finishing this product. You will sell more of these if you improve the edges of this product.
