Millenium failure
by Clan McLean (3 out of 5 stars)
January 9, 2011

I first saw Star Wars when I was 12 years old and was facinated by the Millenium Falcon. My son and I saw the movie together once and he was equally facinated by the space ship. I saw myself in his eyes in a way. When he saw this toy in a magazine he cut it out and pasted it on his letter to Santa, just so that there would be no mistake about which one he wanted. I ordered the toy which arrived extremely prompt and in good shape.

However the ship was constructed of unpainted formed styrofoam that scars very easily. When it flys, it only flys up and down as the directional does not work. The battery charge on the unit only lasts 5 - 10 minutes before a recharge is needed. I was disappointed in the craftmanship as it seemed like it was slapped together without attention to detail. Definately not a toy for you if you like Star Wars or remote flyers. My son played with the toy twice and it has sat on his closet shelf ever since. This is certainly not worth the money I paid for it.

Could've Been Fun
by Lady (2 out of 5 stars)

My 15 year-old son purchased this toy as a gift for his father for Christmas. Both were eager to put the Millenium Falcon to use, but it listed, sputtered, and died. Worse, because we purchased it early, it's not returnable. All around, it was a bummer gift to give. If it had worked, it might have been a great gift, but unless we buy a new one, we won't know.

fun for the grown ups

This was a wedding gift for the groom of my niece, who is a diehard Star Wars fan. It was intended not as just a fun toy, which it was, but for the grooms cake. The inside of the MF were carfully removed and a cake was inserted and frosted in it's place. After which it was easily reassembled and the fun continued.

Take the afternoon to learn to fly this Falcon - you won't be dissapointed
by Daimion (4 out of 5 stars)

I've read all of the negative reviews here, and many have valid points. Do I wish the battery life was longer? Yes. Do I wish the learning curve was a little easier? Yes. Do I think that many of the negative reviews are from people who expected this to fly like the real Falcon, with little or no effort on their part? Yes. Have my kids and I had a blast with it? Yes.

It takes a little practice to get the hang of flying this Millenium Falcon. That said - take the time to learn to fly it. By 4:00 in the afternoon on Christmas day, myself, my 10 year-old son AND my 5 year-old daughter could fly this with little problem. It will still get wobbly at times, crash into the wall, or land hard - but it's a toy, not a profession RC helicopter. As I said, my 5 year-old can fly it now - it's very learnable.

Here are the two biggest tips I can give you. First, don't try and launch it from the floor. It takes it a second to get it's equilibrium, and taking off from a sitting position will results in far more uncontrolled crashes. Instead, hold it lightly by the nose, engage the rotors, and let it lift off from your hand. Once we figured this out, we almost never crashed on take-off. Second, don't worry about the trim. As another reviewer said, we use the left/right control to control it. Granted, you can't fly a living room obstacle course and make a perfect landing on the fireplace mantle, but as I said before - THIS IS TOY, not a professional RC helicopter. Have fun with it.

Junk!

Don't waste your effort on this thing. Worst RC toy we've ever owned. Can't keep this thing airborne for more than a few seconds if you're lucky. Hope they've discontinued this for YOUR sake. Cool concept, horrible experience.

A big Christmas disapointment!!
by Sharmony (1 out of 5 stars)

I bought this as a Christmas present for my son - he is not a little boy anymore but he is still a big Star Wars fan and I like to get him a toy every year to keep a little fun in the holiday. This was that toy but although it looked good - it did not work well. It would barely get off the ground, would not go very high and then would not stay flying for very long. My son is very patient and he tried many ways to get this to work but it ended as just a piece of junk his mom gave him for Christmas - thank goodness it was not his only gift - it was just his only toy.

Hasbro Speed Stars Millennium Falcon R/C
by Joe (3 out of 5 stars)
December 23, 2010

Purchased the Millennium Falcon with intent to sell. However, I couldn't resist opening one up.

The product is made of light-weight styrofoam so the motor doesn't need to be exceptionally powerful for lift-off. Since it is designed exclusively for indoor use this is probably for the best. The rotors are made of a pliable plastic, which give under impact so there is little, if any, risk of injury to the operator or damage to the rotors. The details, which are part of the fun, make it look very much like the Millennium Falcon. It has raised areas of styrofoam which denote those haphazard panels and control surfaces characteristic of the fastest piece of junk in the galaxy. Details on the side are applied with stickers, which includes a sticker along the back to convey that engine glow. The stickers are actually decent looking and haven't peeled away under several impacts. Of course it has the weird, yet cool, askew cockpit that makes the Falcon so distinctive. There is an addition of a landing base connected to the main body of the Falcon by embedded plastic struts. This gives ground clearance for the rotors for takeoff and landing.

While I was somewhat disappointed with the lack of heft or perceived durability of the product, this was only a cursory examination upon opening the package. However, I became very impressed with its durability as I crashed it again and again with no visible damage or adverse affect to performance. I crashed it early and often; once from about 9' onto a narrow metal seat-back with absolutely no damage. I scuffed it against the rough texture of the ceiling under too much throttle and observed no damage to the rotors or body after it plummeted 12' to the hardwood floor below. Since it is styrofoam it will fracture under a shearing motion, so keep little Timmy from getting his hands on it. It is recommended for ages 8+, but I would recommend it for slightly older children. Otherwise durability is fantastic for its intended use (I'm not the greatest pilot). Also, because it is light weight it will oscillate and plummet under a fair wind, so make sure any fans are off.

This baby can be fun, but the control is tricky. It will take you a few crashes before you begin to get a feel for it. Since there is no stabilizing rotor, with only dual rotors spinning in opposite directions, it will tend to rotate toward one direction or another. It never flies in a straight line without judicious corrections. There are 'L' and 'R' toggles for trim on the 3-channel remote that correct for this adequately, but I never completely eliminated the tendency for it to turn on its own. In addition, the remote has one stick for throttle and one for turning. Throttle operates the lift, and the rotors are pitched slightly forward so the Falcon moves ahead at a rather deliberate pace. It ascends very quickly after a fresh charge and responds well when you want to turn it or back off the throttle. Just don't expect blazing fast forward movement. The range is about 12', which is fine for indoor use. Just make sure nothing blocks the infrared signal or the rotors will cut off. I've found it is best to launch this from my hand. I hold it in the air by the base, and let it go when I feel the tug of lift. This works much better than the method described in the manual. Early on I tried to launch it from an elevated flat surface as the manual suggested, but it would just dive off and hit the floor.

The remote takes 4AA batteries. Charge the Falcon by plugging the remote into the Falcon via a cord. The 4AA batteries will then charge the Falcon's built in power source. Charging takes about 30 min., with an average flight time of 4 min. on a full charge. This aspect of performance was disappointing. It would have scored higher if the charge lasted longer.

Overall I thought the product was fun, but I would only recommend it for a Star Wars fan. It is similar in performance to the Air Hogs Havoc Heli, but the Havoc is about $15 cheaper.

I just cut off the right cockpit to solve the annoying problem.

Difficult to balance. Have to recalibrate every time you start it. I just cut off the right cockpit to solve the annoying problem.

So not worth it!!
by Questionmark (1 out of 5 stars)

I bought this for my son and was so excited. I found it on sale on Amazon for $40 and when he opened it we discovered it was made with styrofoam! It says that the battery for the falcon itself is recharging- from the battery in the remote. It flies for 2 minutes and then starts to lose power and needs to recharge. It is hard to get a hang of how to fly it, we have vaulted ceilings and still had problems with it running into things, not an indoor RC! I would definitely skip this toy expecially for how much it costs and how chinsy it is.

Waste of money!

This toy has to much weight on one side causing imbalance and not able to fly. It's nothing more than styrofoam, cheap and fragile, not worth the money.
