Excellent piece of yard art

This thing looks really cool on the tree. Out of the box, it is a dark brown color with some light reddish brown highlights. Of course, all trees are not the same color so you may have to modify it with some paint to match. My tree has a lot of light and dark gray in it, so I used some gray automotive primer to touch up the lighter areas of the face, so it would blend in. I also decided to go for a scary look, so I used black paint inside the mouth and eye sockets for contrast and put some small red reflectors over the eyeballs, so that head lights or my yard lights cause it to glow. In the day it looks freaky. At night it's terrifying! I'm including photos of daytime, on a cloudy day and sundown with the tree lights on for comparison.

Adds a sense of whimsical intrigue to the yard
by Beard of Zeus (5 out of 5 stars)

I placed it on a tree facing the walkway to the the front door. It blends in fairly well and several people have walked right by without noticing it. I know it's there though, and get a kick out of it every time I pass it. Everyone who has noticed it, has loved it and wanted to know where they could get one. It almost makes it feel like someone is watching over the front yard.

It's made of a flexible rubber material which works really well for the intended application of being attached to a tree because it will wrap around / contour to each individual tree trunk. The material looks like it should be weatherproof as well, only time will tell though. It comes with 4 screws to attach it to the tree and it is very secure.

The tree I mounted it on is an older tree and it did "bleed" sap / water out of the holes where the screws are for about 4 weeks after the installation (as you can see from one of the photos I uploaded). The flow of sap got gradually less and the tree appears to have healed itself and seems to be doing fine now. For this reason, I would probably recommend against installing this on a younger tree that is not yet fully grown.

The spirit of Nottingham, now in my back yard

This thing is awesome...........It's firm but semi-flexible and conformed nicely on my large Honey Locust tree. Looks like the tree grew that way. He is a great conversation piece. Everybody loves him. Could almost pass as a knot that grew like that..........Great purchase. On the Higher price scale, but worth it to me.....

I have two maple trees in my yard, about 15 feet apart from each other. In between the two trees I have been creating a fairy garden, with shade plants and fairy statues among the mix. I had seen tree faces previously, but when I saw the spirit of Nottingham woods, greenman, I knew that was the face i wanted on one of the trees.

It shipped super fast, i think I got it the next day! It took less than five minutes to attach him to the tree. The face is soft so you have some play in shaping it before you drill the screws in.

I just hope that when it turns cold here in the midwest, that the material it's made of doesnt crack. But we'll worry about that when the time comes, right now we are enjoying this incredible face that has made my tree come alive!

He is not to scary looking, just intimidating enough to watch over the fairies in the shade garden! I love it when we're sitting out on the back deck and a friend stops by and suddenly notices that the tree has a face! Everyone loves it!

Now I just wish I could find a suitable " green woman" for the other maple tree, as I call these two trees the husband and wife of the back yard!

I strongly recommend this product for a bit of a twist on your average backyard decor!

But please make a female face a.s.a.p.

A lovely addition in my garden.

The lovely little old man arrived today, and was promptly hung on a very large old fir tree. There is a natural indentation in the trunk and he fits perfectly in it. His color almost matches the tree bark. Some reviews had mentioned that he is so small he does't look very good on large trees.Perhaps it is because of the natural little alcove where he hangs it seems to look quite natural. Rather than seeing it as being too small for this big old fir tree, I see it as if he has grown up along with the tree and thus has entered his elderly years along with the tree. Seems kind of natural to me.

Instead of appearing as if he is just hanging on the tree, at least in this case he appears to really be apart of it surrounded by large chunky pieces of bark on a very rough bark surface. Bottom line; it looks great. He looks as if he has lived in it forever.

Hmmm.. is that someone watching you?

I put this up on our tree out front. We live in the country. I didn't tell anyone .. I said to my 8 yr old grandson,"What is that?" He looked and responded with, " I don't know, is that a person? " I told him I saw him earlier and he winked at me. Of course I played this as long as possible! Lol. Great conversation piece and had him help me hang it's twin down by the water for the boats to see. Should be fun!

Very cool!

This is VERY cool but much smaller than I imagined. I really should remember to read the product details! It's far too small to put on the tree I had intended it for. I understand it's supposed to "blend" in, however, it would be swallowed up by the immensity of that tree so I am looking for a new place to put him.

Quality is great...he's very cool. Not complaining really, just wish I could use him where I had intended. Oh well.

Nice if you have the right sized tree to connect it to

The back of the statue is slightly concave, and it has ONE mount at the top of the back which can capture a small screw/nail head. If the tree is the correct curvature and is vertical or leaning "back" from where you are mounting the statue, then it looks great. Otherwise, the statue hangs in the air and looks kind of disappointing. I may also have to tint the statue a little blue to match the blue atlas cedar I mounted it on. We will see how that goes . . .

I may have to drill a hole through the statue in order to screw it to the target tree for the reason above. I hope that works.

That said, I like the look of the thing.

Good luck!

Spot of whimsy that makes a bleak front yard tree stump more interesting
by M. Estock (5 out of 5 stars)
May 24, 2018

Just mounted "The Spirit of Nottingham Woods" on the side of a large tree stump in my front yard. Had planned to have the trunk chainsaw carved, but the carver encountered rot in the heart of the trunk and had to abandon the project. Now some bark has started peeling off--and that's where I put the Spirit--as though he was revealed under the peeling bark. I think I'm going to enjoy seeing passersby do a double take when they spot him.
