It really reduces the eye strain
by Barath Jayaraman (5 out of 5 stars)
May 19, 2014

About me: I look at my laptop atleast 10 hrs a day and play on my Xbox for 1 or 2 hrs.

Issue that I had: Looking at laptop never been a trouble to my eyes. But, if I play xbox for 1 or more hrs, my eyes will bcome red, dry, tired and I almost stopped playing bcoz of that

Pros:
1. It really reduces my eye strain. Even if I play for 3 or 4 hrs on weekends, the eyes are not strained. It really works
2. It's super stylish. I also wear this glasses at work. Everybody in my office said, it's really stylish and cool. It gives you the intelligent and geek look
3. It's really comfortable and light weight. You can wear it many hrs without any discomfort.

Cons:
1. No hard case with this. It just comes with a cleaning cloth cover. So, you need to spend $10 more to buy a gunnar case (available in amazon) If you buy a Rayban for $80, it will comes with a case and this doesn't.
2. They don't have screws in frame. It's not actually a con but just a thing I like to have. If you accidently break the frame, you have to completely buy a new pair instead of replacing the frame

Alternative: There are few other alternatives out there in the market if you don't want to spend $80. Other manufacture sell these glasses for $40. This is not a tricky technology or something. I am sure even the $40 glasses will do the same thing (might not look as stylish as this)

These are definitely like looking through glass
by G. (5 out of 5 stars)

I bought these after my co-worker loaned me his Gunnar's of a different design. I basically bought the nicest looked pair that were cheapest. Prior to this I bought some knock-offs only to return them because they weren't optically clear. These are definitely like looking through glass. They really make you look like an uber-geek but who cares. They're great glasses and definitely make a big difference staring at computers all day long and coding. After wearing them for a few hours you'll take them off and go "woah, that hurts." I keep these on my desk and wear them with a hat to block the overhead light glare. Definitely recommended. Never scrimp on your vision.

These actually do a lot of good for your eyes!
by Jacquelyn (5 out of 5 stars)

Let me start by saying that I used to be very skeptical - until I actually tried these.

I went in for an eye appointment and found out I had a very severe chronic dry eye (they almost mis-diagnosed me for needing prescription strength glasses until they put in a couple of drops and realized what was really going on). After all the testing, my eyes were really dilated. I tried to work through it, but I couldn't see anything on my computer screen - just a blur! So, I started walking around to pass the time. That's when a co-worker, finding my super dilated pupils entertaining, sat me down to take some pictures. In boredem, I tried on his Gunnars and kid me not - I felt like I could see clearer. I was a bit taken aback, but even when I looked at a computer screen, I could actually see. For the longest time, I had the impression that these were no better than tinted lenses. Since, I've tried wearing them more consistently and have found my eyes less irritated at the end of the day. :) I would highly recommend some form of Gunnars if you are on your PC as much as I am (work + games).

Bonus, these ones are red and cute! I love them!

Bittersweet...

I really like how my eyes feel after wearing these. I was a bit skeptical when I ordered, but the claims made seem to be generally true. I'm in my mid 40's and have had great vision all my life but in the last few years I've found reading glasses to be necessary more than I'd like to admit.

I work in front of a computer all day, and play PC video games a lot in my off time. After a few days I noticed that I'm not nearly as tired at the end of the day. I don't feel the need to rub my eyes nearly as much when I wake up in the morning either. The most telling thing to me though, was the other day when I was at the grocery store I was able to read the ingredients on a bottle without squinting and without reading glasses on. So my eyes are better (just not as fatigued more likely) now than they've been in a while even when I'm not in front of a screen.

On the less positive side, the shape of these are not pleasing to me at all. The side bars are very curved. So much so that it feels like calipers are on my head. By that I mean, the only thing touching my head are the very end tips. What this does is constantly pull the glasses closer to my face (it's even worse when wearing headphones) which leads to the real problem. These things are smudge magnets. I don't even have to touch the lenses to get smudges on them. Just being close to my skin they develop smudges. The warmth of my skin is enough to fog them near the nose cushions. This is in a room thats 75 degrees (Fahrenheit) My skin is a little oily, but it's not like it's dripping off of me or anything like that. I need to clean them several times a day, so have a lot of cleaner wipes handy.

The benefits outweigh the drawbacks for me. I'll order another pair when it's time to replace these, but I won't order THIS pair again. I'm actually indifferent to the Gunnar brand, so maybe my next pair will come from them or not.

Edit Oct 11, 2014.

After a couple months I've decided I don't really care for these. Between smudging so easily (I'm cleaning these every couple hours) and constantly looking through the reflection of my own eyeballs on the inside of the lenses which causes its own eyestrain I've found myself looking for something different.

Changed My Gaming Experience!
by K. Neal (5 out of 5 stars)

I can not say enough good things about these glasses!

I already have two pairs of Gunnar's computer glasses - I love them and I think they work very well to reduce any eye fatigue that I have at work and at home from using the computers for long periods of time. I thought the computer glasses might work for my gaming as well, but I really disliked the computing glasses for gaming, which is why I tried these.

The difference between these and the computer glasses for gaming is vast!

These are lightweight, and seemingly less amber than the computer glasses. (The computing glasses don't appear amber when I'm using a computer, just in front of my large screen TV when I'm using the PS4.)

I no longer have to pause the game to wipe away tears from my eyes, or blink excessively. Or take breaks due to eye fatigue! My gaming experience has improved immeasurably.

I'm just sorry I didn't buy a pair of these sooner!

I highly recommend these to anyone who games for hours on end.

Must-have equipment for the modern age!
by Lance W. Hanson (5 out of 5 stars)
May 22, 2015

The Gunnar glasses have literally saved my lively hood.

I've work in civil engineering for the past 30 years. So my day is spent rotating between CAD, spreadsheets and word documents. Lots of "face time" with computer screens.

Last year I began experiencing severe migraines. They were so bad that I was unable to sleep for days at a time. I was turning into a zombie (and becoming addicted to Excedrin Extreme). The more I worked, the worse it got. The worse it got, the harder it was for me to work.

I felt like a concrete worker with a bad back, as I had an affliction that was uniquely disadvantageous to my vocation.

My tech-savvy daughter suggested I try out her Gunnars. I was sceptical. But, after a week, the headaches had subsided. She then reclaimed her glasses. Shortly thereafter my headaches and inability to sleep returned.

I was set to visit a neurologists and bracing for the "good news" such trips oft times result in. Given the circumstances, I figured dropping $70 on something that seemed to work was a reasonable investment, So I scored a pair of Gunnars.

I have now been wearing them for the past six months and the only headache episode I have had was when I had left my glasses at home, and proceeded to work without them.

Now, I absolutely will not work on a computer without my Gunnars. They have become mandatory equipment, much like eye-protection for someone doing arc-welding.

Do I think Gunnars are "magical"? I don't know. Maybe strips of yellow cellophane-tape would work just as well. But it just would't look as stylish as the Gunnars do.

As other reviewers have pointed out, they are lightly constructed. I find this to be a plus as I barely notice them when I have them on. However, I would recommend a carrying case to protect them.

The only design issue for me is the arms on the Phantom style glasses are almost razor thin, which causes a noticeable pressure point where they rest on my ears. Still gets 5 Stars.

Great product.

Perfect for Computer Users/Gamers with Chronic Migraine
by LGM (5 out of 5 stars)
October 7, 2015

I am an online student/frequent casual gamer (not a pro) who has chronic migraine - the kind where I have an enhanced reaction to the harsh blue/bright white and flickering monitors/screens cause. The head pressure and eye fatigue is constant for me. I got these glasses because they claim to address this. Im so glad I did! Right out of the box they are delivering as advertised. They do not make everything "yellow" as some people claim. They simply take the harshness out of the tint and somehow ease the flickering most people do not notice.

Some have said they are damaged on arrival. The way there are packaged, this should not happen unless they are haphazardly or carelessly handled. Either way, as I understand it you can exchange them if they are. Others talk of their being flimsy. The nose rests take a bit of pressure to adjust, so be slow and methodical with that. They are thin, and I can see how a lens could possibly pop out if not handled with care - don't go aggressively ripping them off your face because you got sniped in a round of Warzone on Halo or tossing them onto the table because you finished your online test and are soooo ready for a cold one.

Treat them with respect for the not so cheap and serving-a-real-benficial-purpose glasses they are and they will repsect you. Get a case for them, use the right kind of wipe and method to clean them, and appreciate what they are providing: better health for your eyes, which if you dont appreciate now, you will when you are older.
*I have included a photo of my television screen that have two bright white areas, one has the glasses over it so you can see the difference.

I have rated items and given seller/packaging feedback before, however this is the first product review I have written for anything. I did because my migraine issues have been such an impediment and these glasses make such a difference to improve my quality of life in regard to electronic devices with screens. There truly is a difference in the sense of relief when I put them on versus the harshness when I don't.

Oh a final note: I have a small frame face and these glasses do not cause the "fly eyes" effect I was worried about; they are not too big and look alright on me.

Lightweight and works like a dream!
by Mrblurr (5 out of 5 stars)

This is the 2nd pair like this I've bought. Why? Because it works for me. I can game without getting headaches or feeling any strain in my eyes. I got a 2nd pair to wear to work since I work with computers and they help there as well.

If you are on the fence like I was, just get them. If they don't help, they don't help, but I think a lot of people assume this is a snake oil type of thing when it's not. Most likely you'll get some relief, even if the frames aren't a perfect fit for you.

Surprisingly, they help a lot with eye fatigue from marathon gaming!
by Savage Doc (4 out of 5 stars)
May 20, 2015

I've had the Gunnar Optiks Phantom glasses for about 2 weeks of hard use (all night jags of playing Civilization V), and I think I can give a informed review. I was pretty skeptical about them before I tried them, but a lot of people said the same thing in their reviews. I'll be the first to admit that I was surprised at how well they work. It's obvious to me that the main benefit is that they maintain a stable micro-environment around the wearer's eyes, meaning your eyes don't dry out as easily. Apparently, when enmeshed in computer gaming, we don't blink as often as we should. Any glasses will do that, but these are mildly curved making them better than plain flat lenses.

The mildly yellow tint of the glasses does a pretty remarkable job of shading the video output to true white. I don't think the slightly blue cast of normal video output makes any real difference regarding eye fatigue, but who knows? Their styling is not the sexiest around, but when I'm sitting in front of the TV in my underwear punching at the controller, no glasses on Earth are going to make me a sex symbol.

The glasses do have a very slight magnification. I have only one theory why that is. For young users, visual accommodation is rarely a problem, but older users typically are far-sighted. It may help them a little bit. (Maybe...)

The glasses are very light-weight, and easy to forget you are wearing them. The plastic lenses seem a little flimsy, but another reviewer who is an optician said that they are of good quality. He should know.

Overall, if you spend LONG periods in front of a video screen and find that your eyes get very tired or sore afterward, I think you'll find any of the Gunnar Optiks gaming glasses help. They definitely helped me.
- P.S. I forgot to mention that if I were to order them again, I would go with something like the Gunnar Optiks DES-05101 SteelSeries Desmo Semi-Rimless etc. model. They wrap around your eyes more, and should perform better because of that.

A revolutionary product that you MUST try!!
by Zhao Yun (5 out of 5 stars)
November 16, 2018

These glasses are truly remarkable and have made a huge difference in the amount of eye strain from being in front of a computer for 10-16 hours a day. The only thing I wish they had is the option for polarized lens added to this lens. Then it would perfectly block the bright fluorescent lights above my desk and right in my eyes at work. Aside from that, these are the real deal. Definitely recommend to anyone using ANY type of monitor. This includes TV people!
