What?! A snow-melting stair mat? And a baby demonstrating its use?! But the best part of accumulated Mother Nature dandruff is watching little kids wipe out trying to navigate through it! I do feel bad for old people... [Read more]Top Reviews
They worked.by peb (4 out of 5 stars)

They worked and stayed clear of ice and snow on a trex-like deck. I put them out on an as needed basis. When I pick them up it's been wet under the mats and if it's still cold that refreezes leaving a thin film of ice. It is just something to expect and probably has to do more with the deck surface than the mats. I will use them again next year and will buy more. They stayed in place on the steps without being secured.
Fantastic Product, But You Need a Bunch of Extras

Living in the Midwest, this was well worth the cost in not having to shovel the back porch and stairs for our dog to go out to do her business. So much so, that we bought more for the front steps this year. Once you buy all the necessary extras (as a minimum the 6 foot power cord, but we also needed the 20-inch cable extender and the 25 foot cable extender), they will keep your stairs snow free. We leave them plugged in once the temperatures drop below 35 degrees so that we don't have to worry about coming home from work to snow covered path (or waking up to one.)
Keeps our porch steps clear, even in New Hampshire!

Love these! Three winters ago, we bought two, and they are still going strong. We anchored them to our wooden steps with removable cable ties through the metal grommets. This year, we bought more, for some other steps, and they are working just as well as the first set. We had to buy some big washers and wood screws to anchor the front of these to our wooden steps.
Not as good as prior larger model with molded traction strips.

This heated stair tread is smaller than the prior model and has no traction ridges. I do not think it is as safe as the prior model. It would need to be on any time there is snow or it would become a hazard.
Nice....

I bought these because we have steps leading to our patio that are constantly used. In the winter there are gutters that always ice dam and drip water on the steps which then freezes and becomes treacherous. I got tired of salting due to the environment and decided to try these. This is the first year I have had them out, I connected 5 of them, they were easy to connect and easy to setup. So far they are working perfectly. They are slightly warm to the touch and no ice or snow comes anywhere near them. I plugged them in at the beginning of the season and have forgotten about them. A great idea. Hopefully they will last for many years. Great product!
I recommend them 100%

I was checking prices for the snow melting mats. I got seven installed on my front steps since 2014, they still work!
I told my husband to removed them and put them back when needed. Well that never happened, the mats have been there continuously for the last three years. I am shopping for my backyard steps.
I recommend them 100%

I've had three of these mats operating for two or three years and they work perfectly. I found a plug-in thermostat, which these lack, to keep them from operating when temperatures are above freezing.

hole burned through the rubber first month of use , seller was told it burned out, no offer to resolve.
Makes Stairs more dangerous than they already are in the winter snow.

DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM. If you have large feet like I do and your foot can not fit in a 8 inch wide area than don't buy these mats. I purchased 7 of them and installed them according to the instructions for the wood stairs on my apartment deck and am returning them the next day. Had only an inch of snow last night if that and plugged these in so I could leave the house safely. They melted the snow yes but left patches on each one of the mats. They also only melt the snow in a 8 by 28 inch area, not the whole mat as shown and described in the photos on Amazon. The mat does not melt along the edges allowing ice to form from the melting snow from the center of the mat. A little counterproductive if you ask me. I am disabled and don't need to make the edge of the stairs icier than they already are without the mats. Not worth the $60 a mat.
There safe and use very little electricity. Turn it on and forget them

I use these heat mats to keep ice off of my deck in the winter I go out in the morning to feed my cats and it can be quite slick. I have a 5 foot Mat and a 3 x 3 and two step mats. It allows me to move around the deck freely without worry of slipping. My cats love to sleep on them also keeps them warm in the winter. Keeps their water from freezing. Well worth the money
sincerely worth the investment

Rocky mountain winters can be brutal (i.e. -40 windchills and back to back to back blizzards). Our house has a smaller front porch, but there are two stone steps to get up to the porch. They're already uneven to begin with, so any lick of ice makes them a decent hazard. These have managed to tough out quite the winter this year! There's only been a few days where they can't keep up with the snow accumulation, but it's much nicer to sweep of a top layer of snow than to chip away at a sheet of ice. We've had our other mats for a few years and they're still good!
Highly Recommend These Stair Mats

Product Overview
Skip the shovels with the HeatTrak HR10-30 Residential Snow-Melting Stair Mat. Sold individually, these HeatTrak stair mats are designed to be placed on your outdoor exposed steps during the winter time to melt snow and ice that has accumulated on those stairs. The mats plug into each other and ultimately into a standard US 120V outlet. These steps are ten inches wide by 30 inches long, providing ample coverage for any set of stairs that you may have. These mats are made of a plastic material and can melt up to two inches per hour of snow/ice accumulation. These mats can be used on any type of outdoor steps including concrete and wood steps.
Pricing and Potential Uses
These stair mats cost $59.99 per mat. The standard wood deck has between 5-10 steps. Therefore, you can expect to spend between $300-600 to cover all of your steps. However, when considering the price, consider the cost of medical bills if you slip or fall, vet bills if your dog is injured on slippery steps, and the time spent shoveling or applying melting agents to those steps. Although I ended up spending $600 on these steps, I have no buyer's remorse and neither will you.
The potential applications for these mats are endless. You could utilize them for a wooden deck, or you could use them for steps to a concrete patio. These steps are very durable, so they can be walked on by dogs or people. These are designed for residential usage only, so it would not be recommended to use them at a high traffic business because they are not designed for that level of usage.
My Experience
I purchased ten of these mats for the wood deck in my backyard at my home. The reason I purchased them was because I wanted my dogs to have safe access to our backyard from our all-season porch. These steps are easy to setup, allowing for setup within minutes. I live in Minneapolis, so you can rest assured that these stair mats can hold up to extreme cold (temperatures as low as -30 Fahrenheit) and large amounts of snow and ice. Last week, we received nearly a foot of snow. I checked the mats during the heaviest period of snow and they were completely uncovered. In the three months I have owned these mats, they have completed the job every time. I highly recommend this product.

We have had these Heat Trak residential mats for 4 years in MN to get to our hot tub in the cold snow of winter. We just added two mats so we don't have to stretch so far between mats. They have been durable, dependable and keep the path to our hot tub snow free. We definitely enjoy using our hot tub on a more regular basis in the winter as we are no longer freezing our feet on the way in and out. Our dog sometimes sits on them to watch the bird and squirrels (she is not a big fan of snow). Due to melting snow there is sometimes icy snow near edges but it is not a problem. We are able to shovel easily around the mats- just be sure to pay attention to the cords while doing so. Definitely recommend these. Seller was also great - communicated each step of the process and followed up to assure our satisfaction. Happy all around!
Just wonder why I didn't do this sooner...

Our home, in winter, has a problem area and for years we would shovel it (if we knew someone was coming over) or sand/salt it. The front steps and walkway are in a perennially shady spot in winter - so any significant snow / ice isn't going anywhere unless you intervene. I was also looking for a good solution that didn't require eternal vigilance - and at the same time - would enhance pedestrian safety when at our house. I bought some of these mats to try out, just covering the steps for right now - yesterday afternoon I laid them out on top of the snow/ice and this morning - all the snow/ice beneath the mats has melted. Next I plan to get two longer mats for the walkway from the driveway to the steps and call it done. So far so good!
