Love the rice paper!

The product came as advertised.

Saw a recipe on the Pioneer woman where she took leftover Thanksgiving goodies and wrapped them up in a rice paper roll. It was a bit of a strange concept to me - but piqued my curiosity to the point I wanted to order and try some.

We didn't follow her recipe, preferring something slightly healthier, so we julienned carrots, cucumbers, peppers, purple cabbage and tomatoes, and rolled them in the softened rice paper rolls. Also made a BBQ ranch ((it sounds peculiar, I was skeptical at first myself)) to dip them in....HOLY MOLY...they were unreal! These have become a new household favorite, making for a very pretty end product, that's healthy and actually makes a nice treat if you have vegetarian or vegan friends. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention these were a true crowd pleaser with my meat-loving brothers who are repulsed at the thought of frou-frou finger foods that are 'pretty' ;) We made extras for them the next day --they liked them so much.

The rice paper is SUPER easy to work with. Just dip one in a warm bowl of water and voilĂ  -- you're ready to roll. :))

Can fry, bake or serve raw. Did I mention they're gluten free too...?

Very good wrappers make great home-made fresh spring rolls easy!
by Christopher E (5 out of 5 stars)

These make very good fresh - not fried - spring rolls. I'm tempted to award 4 rather than five stars only because there are organic and non-GMO versions available. That said, the ones I bought from Amazon arrived with no wrappers broken, while the store-bought organic ones had several broken wrappers.

I didn't make rolls or sushi in the photo, but it's what I try to emulate.

It's funny when you take the first one out of the package they resemble very thin and patterned vinyl albums more than something you'd eat. You simply dip one in a dish of warm water, submerge the disk or flip it to the other side, keeping it in the water for only about ten seconds. At that point it will have softened but still won't seem like anything edible. By the time you've added filling and folded it up it will have softened further until it's that chewy, stretchy, and slightly odd texture of a good spring roll. We recently prep'ed a variety of filling ingredients and dipping sauces and had a make-it-yourself spring roll (and sushi) dinner party. Worked very well and everyone loved the rolls. But remember, a good dipping sauce is key; if you have a favorite restaurant with great sauce it's worth asking if they'll sell you a pint.

My tips:
1. After a paper is moistened, let most of the excess water drain off, but only for a few seconds. Excess will be absorbed.
2. Put the moistened wrapper on a plate or other surface that's larger than the wrapper. I once used a smaller dish and the wrapper wrapped around the side of the dish as if it were cling wrap. It could still be peeled off the dish but it's a nuisance.
3. Don't think "burrito" as you're adding filling; it should be much smaller. I aim for a finished roll of about 1.5" or 2" x 3.5".
4. If, for example, you add a strip of carrot, cut it in two pieces so you can adjust its length so it doesn't poke through the wrapper.
5. Try to compact the ingredients so you get nice tight roll, not a big loose roll.
6. Fold in the ends first, then the sides.
7. Experiment with dipping sauces. A good sauce makes all the difference, so best to have a small variety available.
8. Some filling options: cooked but cooled thin rice/vermicelli noodles, strips of fried and cooled tofu (I love Wildwood Extra Firm), jicama, carrot, bean sprouts, LOTS of whole fresh mint leaves and/or Thai basil leaves, shrimp. Check a recipe site for more ideas and experiment!

these are great for making summer or spring rolls
by Helena (5 out of 5 stars)

Make sure you soak them just enough or they become too soft to hold together when rolling up the filling. My son and I use them for summer rolls with softened rice sticks and some fresh veggies, like spinach and basil leaves, julienned carrots, cucumber sticks and a little cooked chicken. Are nice dipped in a homemade peanut dipping sauce.

Delighted!

I just tried these for the first time to make a summer roll, and I love them. When soaked just a short time in warm water they are so pliable and stretchy - they make it really easy to make a roll and then make the roll easy to eat. Instead of putting veggies in them and using a dipping sauce, I spiralized the veggies and made the sauce (almond butter, teriyaki sauce, lime juice, and Thai chili paste) and coated all the veggies before making the rolls.

And the price is terrific. I took them out of the package very carefully and just now read a reviewer who said they had found some broken ones farther down, so I've taken more care now where I store them. I made four rolls today and will keep two in the fridge until tomorrow's lunch, so I'll get to see if they hold up overnight. But so far I think they're great!

Wrap It Up

These wraps are very versatile. A few days ago I decided to try these as a wrap for a turkey burger. As a wrap for the turkey burger I used two wraps moisten together because burgers are heavy. When the wraps were ready I laid them in an aluminum pan and placed a variety condiments in the middle of the wrap then I placed the burger on top. Then I place more condiments on top of the burger. Wrapping it up was easy because the wrap encircled the burger nicely. The double wrap helped it to stay together nicely. There are so many things that you can do with these wraps. Initially my wraps were sloppy buy sloppy is o.k. because it is all about a tasty final product. The best part is that if you have an allergy to bread because of the ingredients this is a good replacement.

If you are making spring rolls, buy three ladies rice paper
by Terry Bisgrove (5 out of 5 stars)

I love Vietnamese spring rolls and have tried several brands of rice paper. Even other brands of Banh Trang do not compare to Three Ladies. When making spring rolls you need the rice paper to resist tearing and to be somewhat elastic to allow a tight roll. There is no better brand than Three Ladies!

Rice papers

This is another product that is not available within 90 miles of my home. I was so happy to find them here at Amazon. Very good, and a bargain. Makes very flakey egg roll. Just make sure you use at least 4 papers stacked so that you can fry them up without them falling apart.

Easy and fun to use
by Amalthea (5 out of 5 stars)

I got interested in these rice paper wrappers following a vegetarian cooking class. They are very easy to use if you use them right, and taste good.

Here's a tip for using them. Just dip them in a big bowl or run them under water until they are wet-- still firm, but completely wet. I'm talking only a couple seconds (seriously, like 2-5 seconds). The sheet will soften up as you fill and roll it without becoming a soggy mess that tears. They are super easy to use and can be filled with a lot of different things. They also refrigerate very well without getting hard again like regular rice. You get a ton of sheets so they should last you a good while.

Perfect

These are awesome and way easier to work with than expected! I have very little experience making rolls of any type my my first one turned out great. I just quickly get the wrapper wet with warm running water from the sink and it is elastic by the time my fillings are placed. I find they are best when consumed the same day but they are still fine when made a day ahead. All three packs came with every wrapper intact/unbroken. I accidentally dropped one pack and most of the wrappers are now broken or cracked but I am still able to use the cracked ones normally and will use the broken one for smaller spring dumplings!

Great product for making Vietnamese spring rolls
by L. Porter (5 out of 5 stars)
May 12, 2016

It's been several years since I made Vietnamese spring rolls at home. These rice paper wrappers are what you need if you want to make spring rolls. I don't eat wheat, so these rice paper wrappers are perfect for me when I want a sandwich-like meal without the bread. The process of using them is somewhat difficult to master, but if you practice, you can get it down well. The wrappers don't require refrigeration or any special care except that they have to be stored flat, and once you open the package, you have to store it in a tightly-closed plastic bag to keep the wrappers fresh.
