Trust the reviews, does exactly 6 months later and internal wires burn.by MS (1 out of 5 stars)

This works great for the first 6 months and will go dead just like the other reviews state. I thought mine was defective until I researched it and read other reviews from hundreds of others. Since I can't return it, I disassembled it to investigate if it was a bad component that could be replaced. Instead I was shocked at what I found and I strongly hope that anyone considering this product think very hard before doing so because this was shocking.
The inside of the unit is a metal bucket that holds the towels. This inner metal bin is covered with HVAC metal insulating tape holding a heating wire to heat the bin. Chances are if your unit stops working and you open it up, you will find one area marked by scorch marks where the unit burned. See attached pictures that show the wire casing had disintegrated and arched to the metal shell where some of the casing actually burned. This is a classic electrical fire and luckily did not start a fire by igniting anything else.
My guess is after about 6months of routine/average use, the wiring is heated over and over again which eventually causes it to fail.
On the bright side you could always turn it into a stand up cooler or a trash can six months after you buy it!
Save your money - don't buy this!

It's only getting two stars because when it worked, it produces a nice, toasty warm towel. But I've now owned two of these, and the most you will get out of it is six months. The first new one lasted three months. Brookstone had a return policy on it where you can get a refurbished one for "free." It cost almost as much to ship my broken one to Brookstone as buying new. But the refurbished one lasted six months. Anyway, save your money and buy a different style and brand.

I bought this in July 2017, and it was Wonderful, used it every day...
Then December the 1st came and after stepping out of the shower, grabbed the lid and it was HOT, not warm, reach in a grabbed the towel, it was very hot!
I unplugged the unit and finished drying off.
The unit had a smell to it, the lights on the unit do not come on, but the unit gets hot anyway. So the control unit in shorted out.
I'm sure it would have caught fire 🔥 in a short period of time
I seen one other reported the same issue
Works great, no issues

I was really on the fence about buying this given the mixed reviews. However I decided to give it a go as there don't seem to be other comparable bin-style towel warmers.
I was prepared for the initial smell based upon other reviewers' comments (thank you for that!). It smells like a new heating unit for about the first week. Now, however, after using it daily for a month, it does not smell.
The towel warmer has a nice capacity and fits one large bath towel easily. Since it heats from the outside, it is best to drop in an unfolded towel loosely and it does a nice job of warming the whole towel. You can also warm a bath robe, or anything else that you want that fresh out of the dryer feeling.
The warmer warms up very quickly. It has a auto shut off as well as a warning light so that you know that it is hot that stays on for a bit until it cools down.
My usage involves throwing a towel in and turning it on a few minutes before I am about to take a shower. By the time I get out, it is perfect and warm.
I will update this review over time on my experience to share with others both if it continues to work well or if I run into any problems.
12/21/16 - I've now been using this towel warmer for almost 6 months. Still works well.
6/1/17 - Have been using this towel warmer every day for almost a year. Works great and still love it!
Terrible. Stay away

don't buy this warmer. Works for 2-3 months then switch will break. The company did not stand by their product and replace it. Used it for the winter on 2013 only then went to use it this year and on / off button will not turn on warmer. Just stopped working. No help from Brookestone- will not purchase any more brookestone products. Terrible. Stay away. Look at other comments - multiple complaints about the on / off button breaking after only short time.

My son requested this after experiencing towels directly from the dryer. It works okay. You can't leave them in too long after the auto shutoff or they cool down. If you put in more than one towel, they warm unevenly. Also, you have to shake the towels and put them in so that maximum surface area connects with the sides to increase warming. Not a perfect purchase, but we have enjoyed it.
So warm and cozy, doesn't smell, bottom doesn't warm up

edit - the bottom half of it doesn't work. It
Has gotten worse and I need to put extra towels at the bottom in order to put the towel I want to warm up towards the top so it'll get warm but it's only halfway warming the towel ... No good!
I'm bummed I wasted the money on this - I liked it at first
Initial review -
it doesn't smell horrific and I definitely almost didn't buy because of someone else's post AND I have a VERY sensitive sense of smell, like a dog's. :)
It was so exciting to use and it stayed warm long after it turned off automatically.
The only reason i gave it four stars is because I had to put a small towel at the bottom of the unit to Allow the entire towel to warm because only the top 3/4 of the towel gets warm, my husband and I both tried a few times to make sure we didn't need to run it a few times. But, nope the bottom never got warm- I'm wondering if received a defective unit? Anyone else ever find that issue?
Also-I've always dreamt of a towel warmer but it was so complex - this is simple and stands by itself on the floor so no installation nonsense or electrical nonsense!
Now the bad news.

This works very well, heating towels very warm and very quickly. Now the bad news...plan on buying a replacement every year or two. We have not found a substitute so we keep buying new ones. It seems as if there must be a fundamental design problem that should be corrected.
Bad design makes product useless

I bought this to replace an older model purchased from Brookstone. Both were advertised as a "Best" product. The original was great and lasted several years. The new one is different in not good ways. Apparently, either lawyers (seems you could reduce liability without seriously degrading functionality) or cost cutters redesigned the product. The old unit had the ability to set a time to keep the towels hot. Either 15, 30, or 45 minutes. The new unit is either on or off and heats for about 8-10 minutes then shuts off. It will not restart for 6-minutes due to a purpose built timer to disallow you to turn it back on. This results in towels that do not get fully warm and if you take a long bath or shower, it's useless. Very bad product I would not recommend for purchase. One positive note about the new product, it has a full plastic circular base that sits on the floor. The old unit had three small wooden feet that kept breaking off. Superglue worked but new base is better design.
Worked ok, until it fried.

It worked alright, while it worked. I feel lucky that we got two years out of it after reading the reviews! However, maybe we got 4x the time out of them because we used them 1/4 of the year (November-March-ish, okay, 1/3 the year).
- It does fit two large bath sheets as claimed. However, we discovered that you have to cram them in and then there's no space for convection so you get two towels with spots of warmth where they are in contact with the inner wall. Better to loosely drop one towel in (husbands have to sacrifice!).
- Asked the family if theirs went the same way and they did. 3 heaters, all fried after the warranties were up...
