Does the job, but several annoying design flaws
by Ricky 419 (3 out of 5 stars)

I read the other reviews and foresaw a problem with the final unit wobbling a bit, and yup they were right. I paid a professional another $300 to install this right, with a custom concrete pad for the mailbox and for the USPS truck to come close, and the guy was very careful at every step, but...it wobbles. First, the mailbox wobbles a bit on the post, and then the post itself wobbles at the junction. Why is there a two-piece post with a joint that might wobble? I think it is because the package is smaller that way, not because the product is better in any way. Upon close inspection, it appears that both wobbles are caused by the pre-drilled holes being too large for the screws to be able to gain traction--all they do is pull the pieces of metal closer together. Having the holes larger makes it easier to get the pieces of metal to line up, but then they will always wobble. A design flaw.

Another little problem we have is with the plastic cover that hides the key hole for when you forget the combination or the batteries are dead. A great idea, since it's not at all obvious that there even is a way to get in other than the combination lock. BUT, it's impossible for us to pop the cover off without use of a screwdriver or a knife. Someday, I know somebody will break it.

Other than that, the unit is terrific. It holds a huge amount of mail, very securely of course, the keypad is very easy to use, and the batteries have held up with no problem at all for over a month. Our problems of mail theft are over, I'd say; we're just careful not to push too hard on anything, so we never feel the wobbles!

Update 4/27/2013: The batteries are now dead after 6 weeks. They were brand new Duracell alkaline batteries too. Also, the cover for the battery compartment is right inside the door, without any protection, so it is knocked off by mail falling down into the bin about once a week, and then a battery or two will fall out of the compartment and we have to use the key to open it. It would have been easy to make sure this doesn't happen, but like the other problems, it just looks as though the manufacturer doesn't much care. The wobble is just as bad, but it gets more irritating every time we feel it. We still try not to feel it, but we don't always succeed.

It still does the job and protects our mail, but I'm marking it down to 3 stars because of these 3 or 4 pretty serious design flaws.

Absolutely secure!

We have had a secure logic mail vault for 6 years now and just purchased another from Amazon. Mail is delivered, even mail order prescriptions and packages, directly into this VERY secure box. We had a mail theft 9 years ago that really created a mess.
6 months ago some one tried very hard to get onto our mail vault. They never got to the mail, they only were able to trip the internal bolts permanently locking ALL OUT. (much like your bank vault or Rhino safe would do)and they were never able to get in. They did damage the lock and we had to have a locksmith open the box for us to get our mail. I would not be without this secure mail box with all of the mail thefts out there! It really is peace of mind in mail delivery.

Update: We also live in the Pacific Northwest... WD40 the hinges for protection. Site your box properly. My comment on LOCKSMITH was because of an attempt to BREAK INTO THE BOX BY A THIEF. They did not succeed. I purchased a 2nd box because I saw the protection it gives our mail, slight inconvenience is OK as after a mail /ID theft you are GREATLY inconvenienced for years. The KEY is a backup if the pad fails, Keep it safe! (The 20322 is a newer model I had to wait 5 months for this mail box as they are being made now)

My second one...
by Harper Knight (5 out of 5 stars)

...as the first Secure Logic mailbox I owned finally rusted around the edges and the electronic combination lock eventually would not work even with fresh batteries (after 7 years of New England weather extremes), I replaced it with a brand new one. Never considered another brand. Built like a bank vault (which it is, for mail). The big box itself can't be bought separately, even though that's all I needed because the fixed ground post was still intact. Bolt out the old top, bolt on the new one. Done.

Thing I like about Secure Logic is the sturdiness and quality of construction. My mailbox sits at the end of a long downward sloped and curved drive, so is not visible from the house. Local kids put smoke bombs in it, jammed the front door hard against its hinge, and generally did what bored kids can to fool with it. Still worked. Aside from replacing batteries (about once a year), the mailbox just plain did the job. Holds days and days worth of normal mail so you don't have stop delivery when away for awhile.

Very good installation instructions make that part easy, maybe a few hours work with some quick-set concrete to root the post in a hole, attach the box, and you're ready for your next mail delivery.

This product is built right, does what it's supposed to, and that's why, when necessary, I'll buy another. (Available elsewhere, but Amazon had the best deal, both times.)

Great peace of mind.

I have had this mailbox for 10 months now. Overall I am very pleased. I have lived in a neighborhood with community security mailboxes for decades and when moving to a subdivision with old fashioned mailboxes I wanted one that was secure from theft. This box does that. Several quick points.
10 month old box remember.

Assembly. The RUBBER RING that is suppose to go in between the post and the ground piece, make sure you put it in.It is almost impossible to get the screws to line up to put it together with the ring in but if you don't, the mail box WILL rock, just a little but it looks tacky having a new mailbox, cemented into the ground rock. Use the rubber ring in the post. Get a very strong person to help push the posts together to install the screws. I also used 2 bags of cement being I installed it in soft earth. It is going to be a bear when I dig it up and take it with me in the future. Yes, I like my mailbox that much.

Looks - 10 months in Central Texas sun has faded it a tiny bit. I will definitely repaint next spring. There is a little rust at the hinge on the inside which I took off with a wire brush. Normal wear and tear.

Locking door - works great every time. Haven't replaced the batteries yet. Although the battery door won't stay shut and I had to duck tape it on. Not a biggie.

Mail Person - I met them out front and showed them the box. We discussed larger package delivery and I showed him where the little red flag is so he wouldn't miss it in the future and that the mail is in the door when the flag is out. He liked it.

I would purchase again, even though it is expensive.

Great Mailbox !!!
by William (5 out of 5 stars)

This Mailbox is truly worth every penny spent. Not only is it very nice looking, it is built like a Sherman Tank! The box is heavy 14 guage steel. It is not going to be easy for anyone steal it or break into it. The company has gone all out in making sure of that. The company has several safeguards to assure you will have no problems retrieving your mail. If the combo fails due to battery failure, you have a backup power supply. Just plug it in and yes...you are in. If all else fails you can use a key to unlock it. The key is quite unique and is also "one of a kind" so you don't want to lose it (you will have 2 keys). If you are looking for a Cheapee made mailbox, just go to your local hardware store. If you want a "vault" this is it. With identity theft on the rise, don't hesitate. The price is quite reasonable for a box made as well as this one. You just won't find a mailbox that compares to the Mail Vault. If I ever move, I will buy another. I highly recommend this box to anyone that wants security with their mail. You won't regret it! Just so you know, I am not being paid to do this, nor provided with any perks at all. I don't know anyone in the company and hate to do reviews. I just want to help others trying to make a difficult decision(as I had)with finding a good safe mailbox.

Quick update after approx. one year. We still really enjoy the mailbox. Only problem is rust that is occurring on the top of the box. The company should redesign it so water drains properly from the top. I still give it two thumbs up! Best mailbox ever.

Secure but VERY rusty
by Mabs (2 out of 5 stars)
April 5, 2012

I purchased this mailbox last fall after some mail went missing. It is very secure and was easy to assemble and install but in the last week when I wasn't around to check the entire back of the top has rusted. I noticed a small drop of rust last week and was going to spray it with rustolium but when I went for the mail this morning all the paint was gone or in the process of pealing off in large hunks. I know that due to the design of the mailbox water can settle in that are after it rains but the speed with which it has deteriorated is surprising. Before this happened my only complaint with the mailbox would have been that door must be lifted to be opened which can be awkward.
12/9/13

We had scraped away the flaking paint and sanded down the rust in the areas where it was starting then painted over with rustolium. The rust came back and has spread now most of the top of the box is rusty and the door is almost rusted shut. It still does what it says for now but the ancient mailbox that came with the house had held up better.

Secure

Very pleased with this mailbox overall. I was on the verge of buying the popular oasis mailbox when I found this more secure mailbox.

Security - my highest priority. Although not impossible, certainly difficult for someone to steal your mail. I have fairly skinny arms and could not put my arm in further than 5 inches past my wrist. For another popular locking mailbox, I could put my entire arm in and touch the bottom. The inner door is inset and thick like a safe door with 2 bolts so it's harder to pop open with a screwdriver. I like that you can either use a code or a key although it's easier to enter in the code. I feel more comfortable when expecting checks/gift cards and also leaving my mail out overnight.

Setup/installation - I installed on an existing 4x4 post instead of using the pole provided. Just have to add some additonal pieces of wood as the screws holes are a bit wider than the post. I found it easy to program the codes and install batteries. Instructions for installation with provided pole look straightforward.

Appearance - I thought it would look bigger. Because it's not a rectangular box, I found that it had a smaller profile than I expected. It seems well built.

Minor con - there isn't too much to grip on the handle to pull the vault door open. It's shallow and smooth but doable. If it bothers me in the future, I will add some rubber to increase grip.

Value - I thought the price was good for the quality and security. With the pole provided, it makes the cost of the mailbox itself more comparable to some of the less expensive, less secure options.

Secure Mailbox
by S. Carr (4 out of 5 stars)

Pro: Fairly well built. Secure locking mechanism. Backup system to open the box if the batteries die. Weather tight. Ease of use for the mail person to drop the mail in the slot. Outside door hides second door to mail vault.

Con: Steel post is too short and consists of two sections which wobble, unless secured with larger bolts and nuts. Steel sheet metal can be dented.

Comments: I installed larger stainless steel bolts to secure the two sections of the steel post together. The small one-way screws included are next to worthless. I also installed a door knob on the inside vault door, like the outside door knob, to make it easier to open the vault door. Also installed a 1/4" steel plate on the side of the box after vandals put two dents in the mailbox. (Guess they were mad that they couldn't steal my mail again). Made in PRC.

Nice mail box but problem with post
by mjo71 (3 out of 5 stars)

Locking mechanism makes mail box quite secure but the design of post changed. My neighbor bought one a few years ago and it came with a one-piece post. I did not realize that they changed the design to a two-piece post which is locked together by three threaded bolts. I was very careful in not over tightening the bolts but one of them would not tighten (the threads probably stripped the hole) and consequently the post is not secure. Because of the design of the bolts I cannot take it off to try and replace it with a larger threaded bolt. I like the mail box but would not recommend it with the two piece post. Called and talked to a customer service representative and also sent an email describing what happened. At this point it does not appear that they can (or will) do anything to help me correct the problem.

I'm torn between giving this 3 or 4 stars. We have been using this for a while now with no issues on the lock, and it has great capacity, but there are a few issues that still kinda bother me. Here is a breakdown:

Pros: Great Capacity, Been working without issues for almost 6 months, seems secure.

Cons: The keypad looks and feels cheesy, the pole is in 2 pieces and they do not fit completely snug so there is a slight wobble.

Conclusion: I haven't found anything better that is keyless.
