Perfect for Extended Callsby Dave Darby (5 out of 5 stars)

We bought this for my elderly mother-in-law whose old flip phone went through the washing machine and with dementia kicking in, longed for an old style, corded phone. We tried to pair her up with an iPhone that would give her the best of both worlds. The price was high to "test" but there were no other comparable solutions so I accepted that if it didn't work for her, that it might be a nice desk addition for my office.
Well, it turned out to be a challenge for her, not the least of which was the functioning of a touch phone but she would also get confused and touch buttons on the front of the base - namely the Bluetooth which would disconnect her from the iPhone. So for this purpose, it didn't work but that's on me and as much about the switch to iPhone.
So here it is on my desk - I'm not a fan of having extra items on my desk, however I'm also not a fan of having a cell phone up to my head for any extended length of time. The base is solid and heavy so it's built to last and has a commanding presence. The Bluetooth headset and speakerphone work excellent for me - I just talked to my wife and asked her how the speakerphone sounded and she replied that she didn't even realize I was on speakerphone.
I do get slight delays but that could very well be the spot on my desk and the connection of my iPhone to our Sprint AirRave (we have bad cell coverage so we use this signal booster). So I can't confirm that this is related to the headset/Bluetooth.
I love answering by picking up the headset - dialing out is simple though as another reviewer stated, it would be nice if an app brought up the dialer automatically.
Another great function is that the Bluetooth handset doesn't connect until you put the iPhone on the base - so if you answer a call near the base, you're not Bluetooth bouncing between iPhone and base. This happens on my cars and makes me crazy.
The only thing I don't like about the phone is the provided pad - it is off white and looks odd to stick out only at the top, behind the iPhone. It looks like the after-thought that it probably was - so I don't use it. The caveat and price I pay for not using it is when I get a text message and the iPhone vibrates, instead of a muted buzz, I hear a rattling sound as the iPhone vibrates against the plastic backing.
All in all - for what it is designed to do and for health reasons (we still don't know the impact of cell phones against our heads for extended calls), I love the phone and recommend it.
great idea. Poor product.

I LOVED this when I got it. It was the perfect tool. It lasted about 60 days before it made some crazy loud noise in the middle of the night and then never worked again. It will not connect to the phone except to charge it. It is the now the world's most expensive I Phone charger. Shame too. My calls to them for a remedy were never returned despite repeated attempts.

Having started a job in a company that does not provide office telephones (yes, it is the "new" business model), I was missing the convenience of having a speakerphone-to-handset capability that I enjoyed in my previous job. Also, the idea of pressing a cell phone against my head for extended conversations did not appeal to me (comfort, EM exposure, etc.). Having just received the black iFusion, I was impressed in the high quality of the materials and the clever cording chamber in the back that hides all the connections, so it doesn't look like a rat's nest (neatness is sorta important to me :P).
Unlike other iPhone speakerphone/docking stations, there are no multiple docking maneuvers needed. Just bluetooth the phone and insert the phone into the receptacle and that is it. The bluetooth connection makes it a no-brainer. Has nice easy to read/use buttons on the bottom of the set for controlling the functions (bluetooth connection; mute; speakerphone; volume down, volume up). Sound from the speakerphone is more than adequate and does a decent job of playing my music (not hi-fi, but no speakerphone system is). Cord is a good length, stretchable to 6-7 feet. The unit is heavy, so it won't drag when you pull on the cord. Nice touches are some cushioning gaskets to cushion the iPhone-to-dock connection. Just noticed that the iphone dock connector is outwardly tiltable - so it is easy to maneuver the phone to connect to it. Loving the fact that when someone calls, I just pick up the handset and it automatically goes to it. Overall, having just started using the unit, I am very impressed and pleased.
While this unit is very nice and suits my needs when "answering" a call, it is less intuitive when placing a call. Specifically, one problem with ALL such systems is that it limited to what the phone's operating system will let it do. Since this is a bluetooth connection, the handset cannot automatically configure the phone to be in "keyboard" mode, once you plug it in. You have to navigate the phone's menu to get there (yes, I'm lazy). Also, I miss the ability to abort a miss-dial by hitting the speakerphone button to clear all the mistyped numbers, but I consider that a "failing" of the iPhone menu rather than iFusion, as you are limited to the iPhone's dialing screen. I guess this is the cost of trying to marry a cellphone to a desktop station. A good feature I discovered is that if you CALL a number and you want to abort the CALL, you can pickup the handset and put it back down to kill the call. Nice.
I understand that Altigen (a distributor?) has some business apps available that add some functionalities (only briefly looked at their website, so I have no experiential knowledge). It would be nice to have an app that you touch once you plug the phone in, that brings up a standard "deskphone" menu. Whether their apps have that or not, I do not know.
Connections in the back - micro-USB, DC power in, sound out/aux speakers, handset cord.
Pros: seriously well made (reminds me of the old AT&T systems that could survive a nuclear attack); quick, easy connection; clear "control" buttons on the unit; looks good on the desk. Co-workers are greedily looking at my unit.
Cons: even though it has "electronics" in (not just not a piece of plastic, like others'), it seems a bit pricey.
Overall impression - if you want the closest thing to a desktop speakerphone system for your iphone, this is it, imho. (I think it would make a terrific gift to friends.)
Disappointed

Speakerphone mic pickup is worse than the built-in mic on my iPhone 4S or even my older 3GS. Mic pickup is terrible. No one can hear me. I sound very distant, hollow. The speaker is fine, just the mic pickup is a problem. Left myself a message on a friend's phone and built in mic on iPhone when in speakerphone mode sounds slightly better sitting same distance from me on my desk. In fact, I wonder if it just uses the iPhone built in mic.
I really want to like this unit, I am happy with everything but the speakerphone which I use a lot in lengthy conference calls. The handset sounds great, so it is not a Bluetooth problem.
It is sitting less than two feet from me on a flat wood desk with nothing between it and me. Quiet environment, home office.
I live on conference calls and definitely need a working speakerphone. If you need a good handset or are in a cubicle environment and can't use a speakerphone, this unit works well. However the speakerphone on my Jambox works better albeit not so professional looking and has no handset for non-speakphone calls.
First call I made to a working professional friend who also lives on conference calls quickly made up their mind to avoid this item. If only the speakerphone mic worked.
Latest version of Skype app makes it very difficult to use Bluetooth devices. This isn't an iFusion problem, but I was hoping to use it with Skype and currently that is not an option.
EDIT - to add, I just noticed they are claiming iPhone 5 compatibility here in May 2012. That phone hasn't been announced yet and so many times I have been bitten by changes in the 30 pin Apple dock variations that prevented a newer Apple product from working in an existing 3rd party device. So be very careful assuming this item will work with the iPhone 5. Sure, the Bluetooth audio will probably work, but as far as charging or USB sync features or even the physical form factor of the yet to be released next iPhone ? - buyer beware.
perfect, other than the 30 pin dock (workaround ok)

While I am a huge amazon fan, I bought this from the apple store, and like any thing I've ever bought from the apple store, it has worked flawlessly. Setup is easy, although I had to purchase a 30-pin to lightning adapter ([...]
A bit pricey, but I couldn't be happier, really.
Has a noticeable delay in voice communication

Wanted to eliminate my land line and use this as a wireless base for my Iphone in my office. While it does work and is a quality looking device, main issue is that there is a noticeable delay in voice resulting in talking over the response from the other person. Had to go back to a land line. The clients noticed the delay as well..

This thing is the best quality iPhone accessory I have ever seen.
It is Heavy and stable, so it stays put when you lift the handset.
The handset has that solid feel of old time landline phones built by AT&T in the monopoly years.
The speakerphone to handset handoff works seamlessly, and allows for better than average speakerphone performance.
It allows you to connect the device to your desktop for full syncing... Or to keep it separate as a speaker phone/ charger only.
All in all...its the best solution to using an iPhone in a desk or bedside situation I have yet seen.

By far the best desk phone for the iPhone. Neat, clean, works exactly as if I had a traditional hands free desk/office phone. Has nice weight to it so you don't drag it across your desk when you use the handset. Expensive, but worth every penny.

I recommend the iFusion to anyone who needs to spend any amount of time using their iPhone in a stationary environment and wants high quality voice communications while doing so. I was impressed by both the speakerphone and handset voice quality.

I setup my iFusion system yesterday in my office, and couldn't be more pleased. Rarely does a product get me this fired up! First off, the setup didn't require any instructions, even though they provide a simple quick start guide. Everything is exactly as you would expect, no surprises.
In less than 5 minutes I had this elegant device on my desk, paired with my iPhone 4S, and operational. I spend a lot of time on the phone in my office. Some people call me on my desk phone, others on my mobile. The mobile really isn't very comfortable for long conversations. Also, the sound quality (before iFusion) wasn't all that great. It seems to me that the iPhone works better (sound/less drops) when it's plugged in. So in comes my first call. I decide to take it on the speakerphone. Wow! Great quality, easy to adjust the volume, and the person on the other end had zero complaints. Next call, I pick-up the handset. Again, very comfortable, great cord range, and quality is awesome.
Today I had my phone docked and I clicked Siri, said "call ....". BINGO right through the speakerphone, "calling ...". Phone connects, everything is great. Now I start using Siri while the phone is docked, calendar, etc. all works great. The last test was Skype. I had an international call I had to make, so I opened Skype, clicked call, and like magic.... Voila! A great Skype call.
I realize that $180 might seem like a high price, but believe me, you'll feel like the iFusion pays for itself in just a few days. Zero remorse, and a great review on Amazon. Go get one, you won't regret it.
