It's the only way to play classic arcade games!by J. S. Harbour (5 out of 5 stars)

I discovered the ION iCade Arcade Cabinet for iPad quite by accident while looking for a full-size arcade cabinet that I could build with a MAME PC. The price was $99 on another site, and I was tempted to buy it for that price, but then wisely decided to check Amazon first, which has it for a stunning $46.95 shipped. I received it in two days thanks to Prime shipping.
Assembly was flawless. The mini cabinet comes in pieces, of course, but every bolt hole lines up perfectly and the end result is tightly assembled with included hex bolts and hex wrench. It looks even more impressive in person. My kids immediately fought over who would get to play first!
My only grip with it is the quality of the arcade game offerings from Namco, Midway, and Atari (which is not ION's fault). And where's Taito? I want Space Invaders!! Taito has their own cabinet called the iNVADERCADE for Space Invaders HD (and it doesn't support iCADE). Namco Arcade doesn't support 1st-gen iPads. I'm GOING to upgrade to a new iPad, but sheesh, these are 30-year old games, why in the world shouldn't they run on even an iPad1?
Midway Arcade works but it's extremely buggy on the iPad1, and crashes frequently in the 3D arcade room (which is COOL). However, when it does run it's FANTASTIC. Gauntlet, Spy Hunter, Rampage, oh such great memories there... really, really great fun with the iCADE. And, in my opinion, the best app for the mini cabinet.
Which brings me to the Atari Classics (App Store). This includes 99 games, most of which are from the Atari 2600. That isn't a bad thing but the arcade games themselves are not among my favorites. No complaints, really, just that it isn't the best collection of games. In other words, you have to work a bit to get some good games up & running for the iCADE, but once you do it's a blast!
Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man do support the iCADE. These are perhaps the most enjoyable games. Definitely the most noticeable, likely to get the most attention if you play around others.
lots of fun

i can't say enough how much fun playing classic arcade games are with the icade. it's just not the same with the ipad touch controls. i enjoy playing games like galaca and centipede and astroids. the only game that is a little more difficult still is pacman, i do have fun playing it but the joystick doesn't fully match up to the ones found in the classic machine. pacman still kinda goes in the wrong direction sometimes when your trying to turn. but not always and it's still fun. pairing your icade up with the ipad is simple, infact even more simple with the new ipad then it was with the ipad 1 and 2. you don't even need to press a code like it says on the top roof of the icade. just turn your bluetooth on, hold some buttons for 4 seconds and tap on the icade on the list on your ipad, boom your connected. i'm glad the price went down, because this is a great accessory for the ipad, so much fun mashing the buttons and feeling like i have my own arcade in my home. oh and putting it together is a breeze.
I love this fabulous arcade machine!

What a funny machine!, of course, with the appropriate App like gridlee or imame (both, not available in the Apple Store at this moment), but the free app Atari Arcade Hits it's Ok, very funny too, There are another compatibles apps around. I would strongly recommend modify the icade by replacing the action buttons by others with best quality, like the sanwa buttons, because the original ones could be a bit noisy, But it requires a slight mod.
Definitely I recommend to every one who possess a IPad and like to play games like if you where at the arcades.
Well constructed, well planned, very funny. The seller sent it well protected, and mainly, factory sealed, all right!
BTW... It's compatible with every version of Ipad, only the bluetooth conection is required :)
Feels like old times - all you're missing is the pile of quarters from your paper route jingling in

This thing is CRAZY cool! Beautifully constructed, the controls really feel like honest to god old fashioned built like a battleship arcade controls. The joystick is pleasantly rugged and the buttons issue a satisfying clicky click when pressed.
The bluetooth integration with the iPad is easier than falling off a log to set up, and there are a ton of games that support the iCade directly. Assembly was a bit tricky for someone not mechanically inclined like myself but my wife helped and we finished it in short order.
Over all I'm positively delighted with this product, and the price is right!
Old-School Gaming At Its Finest... But A Little Expensive.

I love this arcade cabinet. My favorite iPad app to use with it is the Atari's Greatest Hits app, which I downloaded to use with this retro device. My parents say it reminds them of the 1980's, when video games were just starting to become a pop culture phenomenon. This blast from the past really brings back memories, especially if you're into retro gaming like I am.
Check and double check if you intend to use this on Android.

I know it's IOS only - but there are a lot of videos showing this working with Android devices.
Here are the devices I tried this with that did not work - do a search before you buy and double check (something might have changed since I wrote this):
- Samsung Tab 2 10.1
- Nexus 7 (first generation)
- Lenovo K1 (10.1)
Again, I know this is IOS only but there are people posting that this works on their Android devices as well so I thought I'd save some people the trouble.
Awesome

This thing is awesome, we're having so much fun with our classic arcade games. I wish more of the stand alone titles supported it, I'd like to play Sonic with this! (Also, that and others only have touch screen controls.)
If they did a 2.0 version with a trackball so that I could play Centipede/Millipede and Missile Command the way the Great Maker intended, I'd buy it all over again.
A kid of the 80's like me likes the old arcade nostalgia, and my twin girls are learning the classics and what real arcade controls are. ;)
Gets you right back in the 80s :-)

Finally a way that I get some "real" use out of my company issued ipad. Downloaded some games, paired it up and started the time machine to get me back to the old days. Interestingly, even my kids enjoy playing with it.
Assembly was easy and it came very well packed. Check out ioncades website - they have a long list of compatible games.
Not sure I would have felt good about spending $100 for it, but at the current price of roughly $50, it was a great investment.
Way back machine!!!

It is really cool to be able to play some of these games again on an "arcade" platform. It sets up pretty easily and the app runs very well. You do have to use batteries in it and you will have to buy the games through the app, but they are fairly inexpensive. If you buy I hope you enjoy it as much as I did and that you get some really high scores!!! Thanks for taking the time to read my review.
Awesome little arcade. Brings back memories of playing in the arcades. Works perfectly with an Ipad

The iCade comes in a very well packaged box. The pieces seem to be made of high quality materials and putting it together is very straight forward. The ipad bluetooth pairs effortlessly with the icade. For the best experience playing on it, I recommend using a jailbroken ipad and installing imame4all. I also got the icade to work with a Kindle Fire HD 7" using the bluetooth pairing. The Kindle is running imame4all and the kindle is not rooted.
