A Great Investment

I bought this as a gimmick for convention trade shows and book signings. It's the best investment I've ever made. I know that the "tornado" lasts for at least 2 hours of continuous use on a single supply of water. Maybe longer, I just haven't tested it longer yet. Air is cool to the touch, so kids can interact with the tornado. I use it with plain water and the result is clearly visible. Extremely easy set-up. It took me about 10 minutes to put it together the first time; now setup only takes about 2 minutes. Very cool!!

Once it is put together it is sturdy, but plastic and cardboard seems a little chintzy given the price of the unit. However, amazon had the best price by far and it is a worthwhile purchase.

This tornado machine is very, very interesting. Before I bought it I read through the reviews and it seemed pretty worth buying, I looked on google images and found pictures of it in action...and my gosh! It is amazing the picture is exactly what you will get when you assemble it.

There are so many possibilities of what you can do with the tornado, you can make it thin and rotating very fast or thick and very slow rotating, all you need to do is alter the pipes and fan speed to get what you want. If you'd prefer you can add Dry Ice to the water bowl for a more dense fog and more visible funnel. The only thing that I'd like to be enhanced is the plastic used because it feels very thin and not very durable. Overall I'd rate this product the full 5 stars. The shipping was also very fast, I ordered it November 29th and it was at my door step on the December 3rd. Also great for a gift anybody can love this!

Needs improvement

It was wired backwards when I got it. After pulling it apart and rewiring it, it's correct now. The O-Rings at the bottom still leak mist out, I solved this with a little bit of silicone sealing the orings to the base. There needs to be a light at the top. Also the back cover is flimsy and doesn't fit very well or attach in any sort of sensible way. Once I modified it which took some time, it worked better.

Rare item that works exactly as pictured

my 7 year old son received this as a gift. Setup is very easy, though i don't think he would be able to put it together by himself. 10 minutes, MAX for setup. maybe 2 minutes after you've done it once.

The item works EXACTLY as advertised. I can't believe it... that is a rarity. You get a genuine 18 inch tall 2-4 inch wide tornado trapped in a display. This has my son virtually hypnotized. me too, actually. It's one of the few things he plays with that I also get a lot of enjoyment from. In fact, I'd say it is an appropriate gift for adults as well. It's that cool.

There is a big bowl of water involved as a source for the mist. So be aware of that. It is very quiet. Only issue I have is that it is a little rickety, due to the way it assembles. The vertical tubes are held into place with loose rubber grommets to make a seal, so you need to be careful that you don't bang into it much. For what this item cost ($250?) I'd prefer a more substantial "feel" to the item.

Even my wife... with her PhD in Chemistry... thought it was awesome.

Altogether a solid "A"... only thing keeping it from "A+" is price and the rickety feeling.

One of my teachers in high school earth science had this kind of machine. It was really cool to watch and you could actually reach out and "touch" the tornado!

I wanted to get one of these machines for myself but 1) i had a hard time finding one, and 2) now that i have, its a little outside of my price range! I'll definately be saving up for one of these babies in the future!

The tornado maker works but wow is it flimsy.

Adding an additional set or two of velcro straps would help.

Adding a light at the top that shines down would help illuminate the mist vortex.

The product works better with dry ice and hot water.

The plastic is very, very thin. I am not sure why the bottom half does not have pole sockets like the top half.
