They feel well builtby Mike M (4 out of 5 stars)

I used these yesterday to do some grilling and they do help keep your hand from getting burned. They feel well built but a little awkward at first when the shield swings and locks the tongs closed, I didn't know what was happening the first few times but then I realized what was going on and I was able to adjust. My concern is regarding longevity of the stainless steel and rusting but time will tell.
Don't Buy

These tongs are terrible. I ordered 2 of them with high hopes and I had to send one back because a part came off and now with the second one after using for a few weeks realize it is very poor quality. It does not have good springs and the tops bend. I've missed my window to return them so now they are going in the trash. Very Disappointed.
Poorly made

These are well designed. I actually sent it back but only because I wanted it for indoor use and it is a bit large for my small hands
Buy it, it's nice!

This is a very cleverly designed pair of tongs. The heat shield turns to lock the prongs in place. The operation is precise and easy. It also doubles as an instant fencing sword :)
Disappointed

UPDATED: Tongs looked like they didn't telescope, but they apparently do

ORIGINAL REVIEW (OCT. 2013): My wife longed for a pair of telescoping tongs to use on camping trips -- to stretch out and reach into a campfire to pull potatoes or corn on the cob from off the grate or even from in the fire. I searched on Amazon and found these, which tout among its features "Telescoping shaft for extended reach." So I ordered a pair. But when my wife opened her present, she couldn't figure out how to extend the tongs to make them longer. And, indeed, after 20 minutes of tinkering with the thing, it became clear that they don't, in fact, extend even an inch. I didn't need a Masters degree from MIT to tell me that.
Did I misunderstand the directions? No, the unit came with no directions. Did I misread the description? No, I double-checked, and this feature is still listed as stated above (I copy and pasted it from the description on the product's Amazon page). Is there another definition of "telescoping"? Nope. The standard definition of "telescoping" in the mechanical sense "describes the movement of one part sliding out from another, lengthening an object..." (Wikipedia, "Telescoping (mechanics)"). This feature is misleading, plain and simple. I recommend the makers remove or reword this "feature", or more people will return this product in frustration -- as I did.
DEC. 2014 UPDATE: HIDDEN TELESCOPING FUNCTION NOW MENTIONED: An alert fellow consumer recently pointed out to me that there is now a video of the item on the product page. I'm quite sure there was no such video when I purchased the item in 2013, but I now watched the video with great interest. It depicts an ability to twist the cowling around the shaft end of the hilt, thus loosening (and tightening) the shaft, which looks like it does, indeed, telescope. As I alluded to in my original review, when we received the item and it confounded my wife, I spent a good 20 minutes thoughtfully and patiently examining the thing and trying to twist, poke, prod, press, push and pull the thing, but was unable to produce a telescoping motion either.
On the one hand, I'm glad the manufacturer finally decided to give some indication of this functionality, and how to elicit it. This helps them, and helps keep a product with some unique functionality on the market (we've owned a long, telescoping camp fork for some time, but with no sheath, and no good way to tighten it to ensure that pressure from the fork end stabs its target, instead of meekly de-telescoping). On the other hand, I'm frustrated that I went to all that trouble to purchase it, try it, be vexed by it and return it, only to learn of its hidden powers now, over a year later!
It NOW sounds like the item may be the product I had sought all along -- although I still wonder if it telescopes enough to avoid roasting one's hand / forearm by a blazing camp fire. Perhaps I will try ordering it again, and attempt a rapprochement.

Great tool, smart design. Won't ever singe the hair on my hand and arm again. I separately purchased the spatula attachment. Went on easily and worked fine.
