Mostly works as advertised, better options out there.by CLV (3 out of 5 stars)

It's an OK (at best) scanner but you have to install and use the BioExcess (*) software which is very iffy and while it mostly works most of the time it sometimes messes up with pretty spectacular results. For instance one thing it loves to do about every week is to start emitting
Having said that, there are now inexpensive devices out there that integrate with WBF (Windows Biometric Framework) and I would say that shopping for that (if you use Windows) would probably give a better user experience.
* That's the name, seriously Chinese company, hire an English as first language person to name this stuff, BioExcess sounds like someone who has a huge need to hit the toilet.

Almost a good product

First and foremost, there are conflicting claims as to whether or not this supports Window's Biometrics Framework (WBF). It does not! Because of that, the only compatible software I've found is the application supplied by the manufacturer. It does not work with third-party software like RoboForm, LastPass, or Chrome. Even the manufacturer's supplied application does not interface with Chrome.
The reader is actually quite good and consistently reads my prints. I don't have to concentrate and hold my breath every time I try to swipe a finger. It is quite easy to log into Windows and I have it programmed with my fingers and my wife's fingers so both of us can use it with ease. The other cool feature the application has is a partitioned 'secure drive' that is unlocked and locked via fingerprint. It's encrypted and relatively secure, but I don't know how strong the security is there. The last feature in the application uses finger swipes to launch applications, go to websites, auto login, and perform some basic functions. I actually liked this part of the application and felt it could be quite useful for some users.
Overall, I don't like this product because of the poor integration. That is the sole obstacle between this product coming in at 2 stars versus 5. I can overlook the little things like poorly translated manuals, drivers/applications on a mini-cd and no software downloads via the website. I would prefer that it was a micro USB connection instead of a mini, but those are all minor complaints that are really irrelevant. If this product could interface with other applications and if it supported WBF, this would be an easy five stars.
I do not recommend this item

The product didn't meet even my minimal standard for a biometric security device. This appearance of the product that was delivered looked shoddy; the case halves fit together poorly with obvious inattention to detail. Furthermore when I attempted to set on my wife's laptop the computer and Windows 7 the computer loaded a USB driver without showing any errors, however, the device page for biometric devices could not find the devise even after repeated attempts. I would not recommend the purchase of this device.
Works for entry into my computer

It works well for getting me into my computer, but unfortunately it does not seem to work with installed programs such as lastpass. I have a built in scanner on my laptop and it works great for all types of programs but can't get this one to do more than gaining me entry into my computer.

This item works most of the time. Just remember install software FIRST THEN plug it in. For the most part make sure your finger is dry, not. So if you recently washed your hands dry real good or you will NEVER get in. Even with dry fingers I have had to swipe several times before getting in. I suggest spending the money and getting a better quality product. BUT for laptops and on the go people this is fine. It's small and will do the job. just have to have patience and get the swipe technique down real good.
Ok, not great. You get what you pay for.

I bought two of these. Both work about the same. I have a fingerprint reader on my HP laptop that I use as the standard for these things. It works every time without fail. This item works 50% of the time at best. You have to scan a very specific section of your finger at a specific speed to make it work. Also the software that comes with it is crap. So, in summary, if you want a fingerprint reader that only works 50% of the time and comes with clunky software, get this one!
Inexpensive biometric reader...

.
For its price, it works fine... to log into Windows. Doesn't work with Google Chrome, or any other apps I typically use for that matter. But it works better than a password. For under $20 it's not NSA level security, and as long as I keep my finger, my computers are safe.
This works exactly how I wanted, even with Windows 8

After following the somewhat limited instructions it doesnt make clear that the product will allow logon to a machine with fingerprint, but it does after a reboot. I was purchasing to trial for a blind customer for which it is difficult to login since the accessibility software doesn't kick in until logged in. After using it for a bit I will be recommending it to the client.
Great Fingerprint Reader

This product worked well and I had it working in less then 5 minutes. The directions aren't extremely clear but all you have to do is put in the CD, Install the file that says "setup" and then install the one that says "BioExcess." Then you restart your computer and when it starts back up, look for bioexcess in the system tray and right click on it. Then you hit the setup wizard and from there it is strait foward.
Pros: works well, easy-to-use software, comes with other software (that I have yet to use)
Cons: the reader itself is light so the wire is heavier and it the reader might slide around, but I'm planning on mounting mine so I won't have that problem. Directions aren't entirely clear but when I put above might help...
A great product

What can say?! A very good fingerprint scanner. It does what I wanted from a fingerprint reader. Simple, easy to use and great instructions after you install the software. I shall buy another. But as always it is good to have a very good password with windows 7. This scanner/reader gives you options and for the price........it is perfect.
