Stable and Flexible iPad Mini Mount
by Flynbike (5 out of 5 stars)
February 6, 2016

Absolutely the perfect solution for mounting my iPad Mini on the Jeep dash as a back country navigation tool. Holds the tablet in its cover firmly in either orientation, and easily removed when not needed.

Paired it up with a composite short double socket arm and B-238 diamond base, the tablet is right in view and out of the way of flying knuckles on the steering wheel.

Read 1rst"¼ï¸ Locked Mini Mount
by Derf (5 out of 5 stars)

I am editing this to address those 1 star reviews where the device fell out. This won't happen anymore. I was suprised the X-grip came with a rubber web grip which basically locks the pad in. The center circle also has no slip badge which is also a bonus surprise. The mini once engaged in the grip with the web over the pad corners isn't coming out.

Perfect for aircraft applications
by R. E. Statham (5 out of 5 stars)
September 21, 2017

I was skeptical about buying this for my iPam mini, but it's PERFECT. I needed a mount to hold my iPad mini on the yoke of my Mooney 201 (aircraft); I already had the RAM mount for the yoke as well as the extender to go between yoke mount and iPad holder; I had been trying to use a different mount, but it didn't position my iPad the way I needed. This one does! It's truly perfect for my application, now allowing me to view my charts and approach plates while flying the aircraft. No more having to keep my mini in my lap next to my kneeboard.

What's particularly nice about this is that I can slide the iPad up and down to position it perfectly-- this unit firmly clamps it on the sides. This lets me drop it where I can see all my CDI and the other bells, buttons and shiny things in the cockpit.

And because it's Amazon prime, I got it REALLY quickly, too-- another nice surprise. Delighted to leave a five-star review for this product.

Used for aircraft- best design
by Sayrequest (5 out of 5 stars)

When I was hunting for a mount, I think I wanted to read a review that told me that these worked great with my ipad mini and I wouldn't have to take the leather cover off my mini to use this in my airplane, like other designs require. Just squeeze it open, insert your covered mini and release. Hangs tight in turbulent conditions. Most small GA planes need a short double sided part to connect it to the yoke mount. I bought the parts individually and got exactly what I wanted and it was a couple bucks cheaper.

When I was single pilot Ifr, my ipad slid off my leg, beneath the seat with my plates/ foreflight etc, I realized cockpit management would be greatly enhanced with this mount. Not only that, but this mount makes my ipad mini much more usable, as I can better see the approach plate while flying, versus looking down at my lap. If you have invested in a mini and software for flying, this mount triples the utility of your technology. Highly recommend.

Disappointed by the rotaing arms.
by Fap_Damage (2 out of 5 stars)

I gave this product 2 stars overall because I was extremely disappointed with a couple of issues I am having. First let me concentrate on the good. It's sturdy!! I have it mounted to a bar on my dahs and it is not going anywhere. The ball locks in and it will not move. The clamp is tight and trust that my tablet is secure. The quality is great as well. It isn't a flimsy Chinese product. The arms are very sturdy.

Now for the bad. When I put my tablet in the mount it rotates about 15 degrees either direction. This is extremely upsetting!! It is not the ball that is moving, it appears to be the arms that are rotating back and fourth. They do not move during regular driving, but my truck does not always stay on the street. I am on various trails for camping, fishing, hunting, ect.. Also, I noticed that there is a rubber piece that other purchasers received with their X-Grip. I did not receive one of these. I am contracting the manufacturer to see why that is. Maybe that is what is causing this issue. Until I can get a straight answer as to why this is happening and a fix action, this is a 2 start product in my opinion.

Product and company Exceeded Expectations

12/21/20114 - Update

I upped my review to 5 stars. I contacted Ram Mounts to see if I could purchase a new shell to rebuild my holder. The nice person(Brian) at Ram said that there was a lifetime warranty on their products and they sent me a replacement unit. I paid $2.00 shipping which was fine by me. Given that I have purchased a Galaxy Note 4 phone and a zerolemon extended battery/case (http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Q7C6FTA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1)this holder works better than the Grip IV I ended up buying for my Note 2. Very satisfied with this product and company.
12/03/2014 - Update.

After heavy usage of this mount and playing with the x-wing arms (this thing reminds me of an X-wing fighter....). I have to report that it broke, a little bit. While I was very careful in my modifications of the units, two of the four screw holes separated from the back plate of the unit over time. That was a bummer. I now have a tie wrap twisted around the base of the ball and then pulled across the front to hold the two pieces more securely together. It still works, just does not have that new mount scent anymore. I'd still buy one, just not modify it and make sure I got the right one for my phone.

The reason I updated is that the springs on this are strong and if the two parts are not fitting snugly, the arms will come out of place and could cause more damage.

Please note, I own other Ram Mount products so I already have the handlebar mount and extension for my motorcycle for this unit. If you do NOT own any RAM MOUNT products, you will need to order those materials to use this on your Motorcycle (or car for that matter). On to the review:

This video is JUST A SHAKE test showing how well this mount holds my Galaxy Note II/Defender Case phone after I reversed the arms of the Ram Mount.

I purchased this Ram Mount to be able to use my Galaxy Note II phone, with my Otterbox Defender Case in GPS mode while riding my motorcycle. The Ram Mount as it is JUST fits my Galaxy Note II/Defender Case combo. The holding posts however only held the corner of the phone(See the pictures I posted on that!!). This is fine for car riding but not for motorcycle riding in my opinion. I took the Ram Mount apart and reversed the arms because there are gripping prongs on the back of the arms that are closer together than the ones on the front of the arms.

This involves taking out four screws, removing the springs, reversing the arms, placing the spring back on and putting the cap back on. I did post a picture of the mount with the cover off. This gave a MUCH BETTER fit for my phone on this unit. I shook this pretty good so I am confident that next weekend when I go to the North Carolina Mountains to ride, my phone will stay secure on my Ram Mount. This was very easy to do.

I gave this unit five stars because of the flexibility it had where I could reverse the arms and use it for what I wanted to and not have to send it back. Now I can use this for my phone and if I ever buy a small tablet (which given the Galaxy Note II 5.5inch screen, why would I??), I could mount it as well.

Thanks for watching my FIRST Video on AMAZON.
04/30/2013 update.

Used this mount on my Goldwing for a trip into the mountains. Worked quite well. A small bit of vibration shaking but not bad by any means and the phone did not move a millimeter in the grips. Very satisfied with this purchase.

Remember though, there is a mount exactly for the Galaxy Note II. You can find it at RAM Mounts Universal X Grip Cradle on Amazon. I think the reason I did not purchase this one is because I was looking for Amazon Prime sellers and the seller I just linked to was not a Prime seller so it was excluded from my filters.

My last update for this product. I recently did a 1700 mile motorcycle trip covering Florida and Georgia. No issues with the mount other than there is no locking mechanism so when I would hit a bump, sometimes the phone would tip to the left/right. It was NEVER in danger of falling off but the mount has a bit of play in it. A locking mechanism would be good so the mount would not rotate. It has about 1.5 inches of play in it.

BEST MOUNT purchase I've made to date.

Works great for Lenovo Tab 4 8"!
by SB (5 out of 5 stars)
February 3, 2019

Lenovo Tab 4 8" tablet fits in this perfectly. I have yet to experience what other reviews have stated about the rubber feet covers moving or coming off. I use this off-roading in some pretty bumpy conditions and the tablet stays put. I paired it with the 1" standard length double socket arm and Ram windshield suction mount. It stays in place, no moving around or rattling noises. This mount could be used for a variety of tablets in this size range.

X grip iPad mini holder for motorcycle navigation
by Moonshadow751 (4 out of 5 stars)
August 25, 2019

The x-grip works fine holding my iPad mini via a RAM mount to my motorcycle handlebars. A pretty slick system. Although not shown in the photos, I usually use the rubber strap system (that came with the x-grip) for the open road as it nicely wraps around the corners of the iPad. It wiggles a little but seems be very secure. Hope those little metal arms hold up over time. I all fairness, some of the wiggling also comes from the universal RAM mount, as shown in the photos.

Ram Mount + Maverick + 8" Tablet = Thumbs Up!
by STS (5 out of 5 stars)
November 27, 2016

I bought this to mount my Samsung tab A 8" tablet in my Can Am Maverick. The 8" tablet fits even in it's protective case. First use was better than expected. made a couple of 40 mile runs off road with a mix of terrain and speeds. Never had a problem with the tablet staying secure even without the rubber support band (never used it) that came with the mount. As others have stated the mount arms can be rotated slightly when the tablet is secured to the mount but this didn't cause a problem for me and required a twist of the tablet to actually move.

not solid mount at all
by Dave (3 out of 5 stars)
June 8, 2019

The grip is well built and a cool idea, however once you clamp your device the grip flops around !, its loose and theres no way to tighten it, its made this way. It would be good to mount to your kitchen table!, but not a motorsport vehicle ! it has no functional purpose at all really, find another mount dont waste your money
