tips for use with kids
by T. Thiel (5 out of 5 stars)

As a second time user of lock laces I did some things differently the second time around and thought I'd share what works best for my kids. The first time around I put the laces in my son's shoes, on my son and tightened the shoes up and cut the laces way too short, thus not giving him enough lace length to open up the shoes to get them on/off. Because of my rookie mistake I always had to help him jam his foot into his nikes. Mom fail.

What works best for us:
1. put the laces in the shoes and the shoes on your kid's feet
2. tighten the laces up like they would wear them and put the toggle up by the top of the tongue
3. cut the extra laces as LONG as you can. This will allow your kid to really open up the shoes to get them on and off.
4. take the shoes off your child, heat seal the ends of the laces, and attach the clip that goes at the end of the laces.

TIP: make sure when you attach the clip at the end of the laces you insert the laces through where the clip bends! This is shown in the product photos but isn't super clear on the packaging.

Leaving the laces a little longer makes it much easier for my son to get his shoes on and off! The laces themselves are durable and very easy for my 6 year old to adjust the tightness... plus he says they make him run super fast!

Also great for pants :)

I got them to make my sons pants tighter around the waist and it works just great. The pants had already loop wholes with draw strings but I wanted something elastic. These work perfect!

Lock Laces are amazing, and their company actually cares!!
by Sebastian (5 out of 5 stars)

Lock Laces make my life as an amputee so much easir. It's a drag alone to have to constantly tie your shoes that are on your actual feet, but even more so tieing your shoes when it's on a prosthetic leg. Thanks to these laces I never have to tie my shoes again. I just follow the instructions on installing them to my shoes, and done, that easy. I am now free and don't need to worry about finding a place to sit down to tie my shoes. Lock laces have made my life as a new amputte a lot more comfortable. Not only do they have an outstanding quality product, but they actually care about their costumers. I had an error in my order, I sent them an email, and they shipped me out a new set, I even recaievd a little post card that apologized. Companys need to learn from these guys they are awsome!

P.S if you're in need of getting these laces out there for the disabled crowd, I'm your guy. Thanks a ton lock laces!

Pro tip: Save money; Reuse by not cutting or clamping the ends!
by AnotheRunner (5 out of 5 stars)

TL;DR: just thread the extra laces down between the tongue and laces, bring them back up the other side if necessary. [See picture]

I'm frugal, and I had an incident where I put lock laces on a pair of shoes too quick, had to return for a different model with a roomier toe box and I went through the painful process of unclamping and re lacing the lock laces without the plastic ends. Then those shoes had a defective tread so I went through the whole process again a month later!

After 400 miles in 4 months it was time I upgraded shoes and with it new lock laces. I thought to myself why even bother cutting them, just thread the extra laces down between the tongue and laces, bring them back up the other side if necessary. [See picture]

The more pairs of shoes you go through each year the more valuable this will be as you don't want to be buying $8 laces every pair of shoes.

Remember to save your old laces somewhere so you can return them to your shoes when they are retired and they become your lawn mowing shoes or tough mudder tributes.

Great Product with Unexpected Benefits
by John C (5 out of 5 stars)
January 2, 2017

In 10 years, this is only my second review. These have blown me away to the point that I had to share an unexpected benefit. After getting a new pair of boots, I was having issues with the ease of getting my feet in/out without drastically adjusting the entire boot's lace tension each time. The Lock Laces looked like they could save me some time, if not saving time to adjust the tension, at least saving time on tying. Well the results are better than I imagined. I can easily squeeze my feet in/out when needed, and I never have to adjust the tension. The Lock Laces are stretchy enough to both hold my feet snugly, AND have enough stretch to allow my feet out when I try to get them off. Another added benefit, is that they make walking and simply wearing my boots more comfortable. The original laces had no stretch at all, and gave the entire boot a rigid feel when tightened. The Lock Laces make the entire boot feel more comfortable, with good support all round, without the rigidity and pressure points. Length wise, the standard 48" Lock Laces can replace much longer originals without a problem - mine were 59". See attached photo for Before & After.

The end fell off after one wear
by Elle (1 out of 5 stars)
January 30, 2017

As a mother to three children with autism who have fine motor deficits, I was excited to try out these laces. My sons know how to tie their shoes, but they lack the dexterity to be able to tighten the bow so that the laces remained tied. We put these laces on yesterday. We watched the video and followed the directions. My son just brought me the end piece that came off his shoe the second time he put them on his feet. I wish that I could just purchase this replacement piece or that more than two (one for each show) were included with the laces. I don't want to have to buy the laces again just for this end piece. For us, it's a fail. If anyone knows how to open this piece to try to put it back on the lace, please share.

Great... for a few days.

At first they were awesome. Held tight and made putting my shoes on take as much time as putting on slippers. Sadly though this is my second set and the same thing keeps happening. The elastic just gives out and snaps. I don't do anything excessive at all. Just an average 8 hour day customer service job.

Great concept, even better customer service
by T. Anderson (4 out of 5 stars)
October 19, 2016

These quick tie laces are great in concept and they do seem to work pretty well so far (been wearing for a few weeks, and used them to shave off a few seconds in my first triathlon.) No slippage through the lock. Elastic laces are a bit stretchy but that's not a bad thing (you can get in/out faster).

To note, one of the clasps in the first package I received did not work properly...it wouldn't actually clasp. That meant one of the pair of laces were constantly wanting to slip out of the "lock" and frayed at the ends. It would seem a few other people may have had a similar situation. Given these are a little pricer than some other options, I was a bit disappointed at first. That's why I only gave them 4 stars.

That said, the company had proactively reached out to me and asked about my personal experience with the product (before I had even tried them out).

While I had already requested a return for a "defective product" through Amazon and purchased a new pair (because I needed the new pair for an upcoming race), I remembered their email. I let them know about my experience in case it was a recurring issue. They were really great about it. They promptly refunded BOTH of my purchases on Amazon, before I even had the chance to return the product mind you. Told me not to worry about sending the other ones back. And sent me another pair free of charge to make sure I got them on time.

That goes well above and beyond my expectation for good customer service IMHO. The new clasp worked great and now I have a back-up.

I would definitely recommend this product (and company), given they stand behind their products...to anyone looking for an edge in a race, has trouble tying their laces, or is simply looking for something a bit more convenient that won't untie on-the-go.

First time trying elastic laces
by Hylian (5 out of 5 stars)
January 7, 2014

Update 25 Feb 2014: There seem to be a lot of questions about these, so I'll try my best to be helpful.
-Each pack comes with 2 laces, 2 locks, and 2 clips for the ends, all in a nice resealable plastic bag, which I used to store my old laces just in case.
-The laces are about 4 feet long, and can stretch to about 9 feet. (I think stretching them that much would to fit your shoes would cut off blood circulation though)
-Lacing your shoes with Lock Laces is a lot like lacing with normal laces. You start at the bottom of the shoe making sure to have the same length on either side, and work a cross pattern as you go toward the top of the tongue. Once you finish using all of the holes in your shoes, or the ones that you want to, squeeze the locking mechanism and put the laces' ends through the two holes.(I personally made use of every hole in my Asics Gel-Kayano 19s. This allowed for a more comfortable fit for me.) Then try them on. If it doesn't feel right, make adjustments to the tension on the laces until it is most comfortable. Changing the holes you use toward the mouth (I think that's what it's called) of the shoe will change the way the tension is distributed around the ankle. (I went on a little 20 minute run, stopping every few minutes to make adjustments. It wasn't until after I had them perfect, that I cut the ends and attached the two laces together with the clips.) It did require a fair amount of force to get them to close around the laces, so just keep that in mind.

I've added a picture as well, detailing the contents of the bag, and the bag itself.

Original review:

I have to say, I really like them. I've always tied my running shoes, thinking it was the only way. Then I found these awesome laces. I don't think I'll ever go back. Took a while to get them adjusted so there was even pressure across the foot, but it was worth it.

Lock Laces VS Lace Anchors
by Neptune (5 out of 5 stars)
March 15, 2018

I bought these for some running shoes I have since I always thought tie up shoe laces are such a thing of the past.

Previously I have used Lace Anchors for my other more casual shoes and while not the same thing its what I will be comparing them to, so lets get started.

Installation is actually really easy, I didn't really have a problem following them at all, you just take your old shoe laces off and install these and then you put the clip through the laces and end it with the plastic nub that keeps everything in place, for my shoes (Nike Zooms US11) I did have to cut a bit off but I followed the instructions and everything was fine.

So a couple of minutes later and their done, I slip on my shoes and honestly they aren't even tightened at this point and I can use them like this, seriously they don't fall out, not too tight not too losse, its perfect! Now when I go running however I do need to tighten them a bit and doing that is wayy faster and easier than dealing with shoe laces.

Now how do they compare to Lace Anchors? Well first off their kind of two completely different products with a similar goal : Eliminate the need for tieing you shoe laces. So Lace anchors reuse your existing Laces but are not stretchy at all, once you adjust your laces you gut the ends off and thats it you screw up your done you have to buy new laces, if you get it right its a one time fit, they don't tighten more or loosen.

Lock Laces on the other hand are completely adjustable leeting you use them loose or tighter for a more supportive fit, honestly if I could find the flat version of these I would absolutely replace the Lace Anchors on my other shoes with these, theyre just much more convenient.

My only complaints would be the following :
- The little nub that keeps everything together is a little too thick and can get annoying
- Sometimes when tightening them one side will go further than the other side making the laces crooked and requires loosening and tightening again
- The Lock mechanism is pretty big and seeing the text LOCK LACES everywhere isn't very fashionable, a more compact version with a minimal logo would be awesome

If your in a market for these or Lace Anchors let me just say : Lock Laces win, at least in this case and if you can find the Flat verions in stock, these things are awesome and make Shoe Laces seem like something of the past that should of been abolished years ago, and the adjustability of these can not be beat.
