Another word for taste.

The Japanese are going to have to invent another word for the taste of smoke. I routinely smoke foods on the grill and stovetop but these methods typically involve cooking your food. This smoke gun does a great job of imparting a lot of smoky taste into foods that you would normally not cook. I have been using it to smoke Greek yogurt cheese and can taste and feel the smoke given off by the cheese as I breath in over the cheese in my mouth. I found a cheese keeper on Amazon with a tall glass dome that I fill with smoke and let sit until most of the smoke dissipates to smoke the cheese. It is also fun to use this gun to smoke cocktails. Just put the end of the tube in the top 1/2" of your drink so it bubbles for 10 to 30 seconds (any deeper and you will not get bubbles).
Never run the gun more than 60 seconds, 30 seconds is usually enough for any application. Some reviewers complain of a tobacco flavor. This may happen if you over light your wood chips or leave the gun running too long. I let the gun pull the flame from the lighter down to the wood chips and only leave the flame on long enough to get the chips started and a good smoke going. I use a rolled piece of paper to funnel wood chips into the smoking chamber.
After several uses, you will notice you are not getting as much smoke and may also get the tobacco flavor. You need to take the gun apart and remove the tar deposits. PolyScience recommends soaking the submersible parts of the gun in a cleaning solution like Simple Green. I brush the mesh in the bottom of the smoking chamber with a bamboo stick after every used. You can also purchase extra stainless steel meshes for kitchen faucets that will fit nicely into this gun.

I was skeptical at first, wondering "will it actually make the food take on a smokey flavor, or just a scent?" My girlfriend is a very well trained chef, as well, I cook religiously, so we both have very discerning pallets... This thing will live on your counter and you will begin to smoke everything you can imagine. We started with fish and chicken that was cooked indoors during the fall/winter and it tasted almost better than if it was smoked on a grill.
Things to try: Smoke spirits - we smoked different bourbons from $100/bottle to $13 evan williams. The Evan Williams, once smoked in an unlabled bottle had our guests thinking it was the best bourban they've tasted!
Smoking popcorn is easy and tastes wonderful. There's simply endless possibilities with this item.

This toy has been on my wish list for quite a while. It honestly felt a little gimmicky and like something I wouldn't use that often, but it recently went on sale, so I pulled the trigger (ba-dum-bump) on The Smoking Gun.
What's so amazing about this thing is just how quickly it works and how much you can use it on. Naturally, I was smoking everything that wasn't nailed down the first day I got it -- cheese, roasted potatoes, chicken, potato chips, soup, etc. I threw some tomatoes, jalapenos, onion, garlic and cilantro into the food processor, then filled it up with some hickory smoke. I pulsed the salsa to my desired consistency and the flavor was glorious -- a cross between roasted salsa and chipotle peppers.
Even more than the "look, I can smoke everything" aspect is the fact that I can impart a smoky flavor indoors and without firing up my smoker. The Smoking Gun is not just a kitchen novelty.

I love it, I was able to make the smokey paprika I love so much and got to choose what flavor of smoke to use. The kit has a nice variety of flavors however I purchased an addition kit of smoke flavors (Wood Smoking Chips Variety Gift Set - Set of 8 Pints) which gave me a lot to choose from. I do recommend that you follow direction as stated and if you are to do this within your home do it under a stove exhaust hood fan. It is impossible to contain all of the smoke so it you are doing a small project make sure you use half or less of the required chips. Can't wait to try it on meat and other items. :-)

Works well generally, gives a mild smoked flavor to meat or cheese. I agree with the "ashtray" effect if food is left too long in the smoke. Not the same effect as a smoker but does add good flavor when used judiciously.

Fun device, used it the first evening smoking some drinks and some chocolate chip cookies.
Supprised how much smoke you get from a pinch of sawdust, I used some sawdust from my smoking pellets.
Love it!

I'm not really much of a grilller, I bought a smoker last year, but I'm not all that comfortable with it. The smoking gun is perfect. I can get that smoky flavor and stay in my kitchen! I made some jerked ribs the first night and smoked them with the gun. They were great
