Worked perfectly! Grandson says it is the best Christmas present he has ever received. This 13 year old has every tech toy known to exist.... but he says that NONE of his friends can top this. I did make a discharge wandd out of a plastic baseball bat and ball covered with silver/aluminum duct tape and used an old high voltage meter lead to plug it in. This is so that he can safely ground out the dome when done. He really had a blast with it in the dark, while holding ne2 and small fluorescent tubes that light up. Fun, Fun, Fun... came with extra belt and a support manual for future parts replacement if needed.

This product is well made, and does what it says.

I got a bit more performance by wrapping the seam in the top globe with Kapton tape to reduce corona discharge.

You want to keep the vertical column clean, since fingerprints there contribute to leakage.

Overall I am very pleased, and if I needed two, I would buy another one of these!

For the price, it does what you want it to do - hair standing, Al plate jumping, shocking your friends with your finger, etc. A little more voltage for the hair thing would be nice. Some things I didn't like: no on/off switch; my motor would not often start so I had to undo the base to give it a helping turn; the globe just rests on a support and tends to move around.
