I just recently purchased my second Espressione New Café Retro Espresso Machine and I love it just as I loved my first. My first one was bought in Italy almost 3 years ago. After moderate daily use and switching to a lower voltage in the U.S., it finally gave out. I bought another one because I was very happy with the first. This machine makes very good espresso at home. Its the closest I've had to real Italian espresso. This machine uses the pods or loose espresso ground coffee. I personally use Borbone pods :-) You are in control of the "height" of your espresso. I like mine Neapolitan short. With time, my old machine became well seasoned and made even better espresso. The steamer on the side is great if you want to froth milk to make a cappuccino/macchiato/etc. It has a turn dial on the side for the intensity of the steam. If this product were listed for normal retail value, I'd buy another for my office. I paid about 700-100 euros in Italy for this machine. On Amazon, I paid 170 USD and now its listed for 199 USD. Big difference. Other than the price on Amazon, I love this machine and recommended it for anyone who loves more authentic espresso.

It is advertised as a DeLonghi product, but it is not a Delonghi product. Fake.

I purchased this product about 2 weeks ago. I had originally intended on using my own ground espresso as I had been doing; but after using the machine a bit, I was much happier with the level of effort and quality from the E.S.E. pods. I found it very difficult to get the correct amount of grounds packed, without making it nearly impossible to lock in place. I don't think this is an issue with the machine, but rather a learning curve involved. Like the title says; i'm pleased, not ecstatic about this machine. I'm using the Espressione brand pods which are less than $0.50/ea in bulk.

Handle does not function well and is double shot only

Well hard to get in touch with seller to ask for a different handle. This is my second machine but I didn't look at the photo carefully. This double spout wand is not as compatible with ESE pods. In fact I can't get it to work. It's clunky and not as well made as my first machine which has been working great. It did arrive on time but that's the only plus of this purchase. I wish Amazon would put model numbers on everything so you can check what you are getting.

I love Coffee and super fan of retro machines!! I am in love with the retro look and the price it is fair. True about the handle is a little tough but works better for me with the pods and less messy, and what it really got me it's the froths up the milk for the cappuccinos and lattes in seconds. I have tried other espresso machines before my opinion is this Café Retro has a good power for good espressos and nice cream. Really Happy with it ....

Pretty... but disappointing!

This attractive machine has a red ABS plastic body, a temperature dial, a solid turn knob, and toggle switches which give it an impression of quality. It also has easily removable trays for effortless maintenance. Unfortunately, I could not make it produce decent crema in any espresso shot. I compared it side-by-side to a $70 Crofton machine (Aldi-brand) of noticeably cheaper construction, which had no problems producing good espresso shots (with plenty of crema) with the same brand of freshly-ground beans (dark roast/espresso-grind). We really wanted to like this machine, but will be returning it.

This is awful, don't buy this thing. You have to be He-Man/She-Ra in order to even get either holder into the seat and even then I haven't yet been able to fully lock the holder in (fortunately this hasn't cause accidents). At some point I'll probably break this piece of crap from frustration or just trying to lock the stupid holder into place.

And yes, I used ESE pods.

I was interested in an espresso machine that was easy to use, without compromising quality! I was close to buying another kind at Macy's but I am glad I waited!!!! I use the Espressione Cafe Retro on a daily basis to make an exceptional espresso! Pulls a perfect shot! Of course you have to play with the grind of the coffee but this machine couldn't be easier to use. The design also goes goes great with the contemporary decor in my apartment! Looks, quality and a great price!!! Can't go wrong with this machine. I also recommend the ESE pods by Espressione

this espresso maker looks really cool. but made very cheap. i felt like i paid 200 for a kid's espresso machine! the espresso that came out of it wasnt tasty at all. i went back to nespresso!

I am on my third machine in less than 3 months. The pump has gone out on the last two . One lasted 90 days and the next one lasted a week. I would not recommend
