Great well constructed toy

This is my favorite purchase from Christmas. We have a 5 year old and 1 year old and were looking for a toy that could span the age ranges. Unfortunately with our young son being in the age range where we have to worry about choking our choices were limited. I decided and magnet building blocks and researched A LOT. I decided on Magformers and am very happy with my choice.

The magnets are strong and hold together well, and they are small enough to take a ziplock full of a few and bring with us on trips to keep kids entertained in the airports. Bring along a hotwheel or 2 and they can build different buildings for the cars to drive through! Whenever I break them out they immediately grab the attention of the kids in the room. Our 5 year old enjoys building with them.

This also works great for our 1 year old. Though he isn't 'building' with them he is enjoying connecting them together and watching them stick to each other, and of course he lllooooovvvvvveees breaking apart anything we build ;-) Most importantly he abuses these to no end through biting, throwing, chucking at the wall, etc. and not one piece shows any sign of wear. Considering I can't say that about any other toy we have ever bought that deserves more than 5 stars! Every piece is also large enough not be swallowed.

I had the opportunity to try out Magna-Tiles at a friends house. I can say that the magna-tiles look pretty cool with their semi-clear plastic colors, especially on a light table. However, I prefer the magformers for 2 major reasons. First thought the magna-tile look is cool the fact that they are solid pieces without gaps makes it especially difficult to pick up objects that are built without them breaking. The gaps in the magformers add a level of control, especially with the younger kids, that just isn't there with the magna-tiles. Secondly the magnets in the magformers are stronger so they stick together better.

I would definitely purchase this set again. I wouldn't recommend going with a smaller set - all pieces are in use when this set is being played with.

These are THE BEST building sets EVER! I received a small 26 piece set about 8-9 months ago and my 2.5 year old has played with them *almost* every day since we got them. They are SO MUCH FUN. The pieces themselves are really strong, sturdy, good sized, and has strong enough magnets to build easily, but to take apart pretty easily too. We have made all kinds of awesome things with these and this set REALLY delivers the fun! There are the perfect amount of pieces to build anything your little heart desires, but not so many that you are overwhelmed.

I almost bought the huge 300 piece set until I saw all the teeny tiny little pieces that come with it and knew my toddler would either lose them or they just wouldn't get used because we didn't know how to use them. So this set solved that. It has the magnetic pieces in a few different shapes, and it has a set of wheels (which my son absolutely LOVES), so its still considered a basic set, but it has an abundant number of pieces to work with.

I have also seen Magnatiles compared to these and MUCH prefer these! I just felt like the Magnatiles weren't as heavy duty as these, they didn't seem as big, and I didn't like that they were enclosed (these are open shapes) and we love to be able to put things inside the cube or pyramid or whatever he decides to build. Magnatiles are cute and look like stained glass windows, but we found these to be much more user friendly for my family.

Has drastically improved play time at our house

Our kids love these and it has been a great way to get us all playing together. Sometimes when I would play with my kdis, I get so bored that I will come up with any excuse to quit. I mean, you can only eat so many pretend crackers or cookies in a day. With the magformers, we all can play together and none of us tire of it. These are great because it doesn't matter what age or what level you are at, anyone can use them. So it enables my 3, 5, and 6 year old each to play contribute in different ways. I love spending time with my kids but this make play time fun for even me, no pretending!

Missing pieces!

This set comes with 132 pieces instead of 144. We ordered a set for Christmas and it was short 12 of the regular square pieces. There are 32 (16 regular and 16 w/ metal sides) in the package instead of 44 (28 regular and 16 w/ metal sides) listed on the side of the box. I requested a replacement and Amazon got it to me in 2 days, wow! But, the box was packaged exactly the same with 132 pieces. I guess the box just has a couple of typos! My husband double checked me since I thought maybe I was just mistaken. Nope! My kids enjoy them so I'll keep this one I suppose.

Fun for kids and adults!

As we all know Magformers are very expensive, the quality though can't be beat and you get what you pay for. This set is huge, when my daughter saw this her jaw literally dropped in excitement. I have spent countless hours building things from this set with my daughter (and without her, they're quite fun even for grown-ups). My only wish is that the instruction book had more ideas and that they were specific to what is included in this set. My daughter has seen some plans and is disappointed what we are unable to build them.

Overall the quality of these is superb and I expect them to be a toy that gets passed down to future generations, much like hot wheels and legos.

I'll start by saying these are awesome. They can keep a group of kids entertained for hours and you can really see their imagination going wild. They also quicky start to build more complex shapes. My 3 year old learnt how to lay out a cube flat and fold it into a 3d shape in no time.

Why 3 stars? Well i am, for the price, $300 odd in Australian money disappointed with the quality of some of the components. The original magformers pieces are good but the add on wheels and ascociated shapes are of a far inferior quality, they are thinner/ weaker, the magnets are not as strong and just "feel" cheap.

Recomend buying original sets only.

Great set, we had bought a smaller one the previous christmas, bought this one in october 2014 when the price dropped to 166. Only time i saw it a better price was when it was a daily deal and it sold out, at 144.

The set has pieces to make a large die and has several wheels to make vehicles.

I guess i am not imaginative enough :) but i personally was disappointed the booklet insert, which is part sales catalog for other magformer sets and has a couple pages of design ideas of things to make. Disappointed that this sets booklet insert was the same book as included in a tiny set we bought for 30 bucks. Would love a book of things we could make to branch out our ideas that way.

All said, given the price we probably are satisfied with what we can do with these with both a small set and this one.

So much fun

My toddler LOVES these, and as an adult... I'm just as fascinated by them. They're much easier to deal with than legos (because who hasn't felt the pain of stepping on a missed Lego) and they're so easy to come up with great building options. The kit size definitely provides plenty of entertainment. We will definitely be adding additional pieces for birthdays and Christmas.

Our kids love building things. They love LEGO Blocks and it is only natural that they would like Magformers too. At first glance, the Magformers box looks huge. This particular set is one of the biggest, if not the biggest set that they offer. Initially opening the box, I was surprised at just how detailed this set is. It has everything for building homes, cars & boats! Its enough for two kids to play with.

We also like Magformers, because the size of the building blocks are perfect for smaller hands. Our 3 year old and 5 year old can both grasp the pieces and easily put them together. The box comes with a booklet which has a few ideas to help your little ones get started. Our boys started with the car. The inventions do fall apart easily. But thats OK. Kids can just rebuild it quickly. As depicted on the box cover you can also play a a tower game, to see who can build the tallest creation! Magformers has been around since 2005, and after seeing our kids naturally gravitate to it we are more than happy.

THEY LOVE THEM

My wife and I really debated what gifts to give our nieces and nephew. They range in age from 2 to 9 boys and girls and like very different things. This set made them all happy and they play with it every day.

The Great
- The set is fun to play with (even for me)
- The parts connect together for easy cleanup and it comes with a nice box.
- The parts are durable enough for a 2 year old boy who juat wants to buold and crash cars
- Everyone loved the dice pieces and the fact you could actually roll them without them coming apart.

The Not So Great
- The wheel blocks do not seem to line up well with the other parts and do not seem to be magnetic by themselves. Unfortunately this leads to the wheens coming off of your car creations every so often. Not a deal killer, the kids sure did not mind, just an observation.
- These are pricy for a kids toy but based on the reaction and how often they play with these, I would definitely buy them again.
