Not as claimed - Heavy copper content

This product claims to be 24k 999/1000 gold. After dissolving in 0.2M pH 10.0 glycine buffer with 2:1 ratio of potassium cyanide and 0.2M potassium chloride, the resulting solution was a very dark green, indicating a significant presence of copper. 24k gold leaf from other sellers had no such coloration. I also used the Millipore Quant copper test strip which came back strongly positive as well. I have sent a sample out for quantification via ICP-MS and will update this review accordingly.

edit: I noticed people are buying this for consumption. I would definitely recommend NOT EATING THIS!

edit2: I received the analysis back from FLSmidth analytical services. It should be noted that not all of the material ended up dissolving, even after several days. However, the solution was 42.3ppm gold, and 271ppm copper. Even if the remainder of the undissolved fraction were 100% gold (which it probably isn't), this would still be about 50% copper. It is possible they sent the wrong item, but it was labeled as 24k 999/1000. This is not as advertised, and should not be labeled for consumption. I will file a complaint with Amazon with a note on the safety of this product.

Claims 24k gold but I highly suspect a high copper content which is NOT biologically inert and bad for you.

I want to believe the seller send me the wrong item but the bag says gold leaf 20 sheets edible 24k gold.

These were very cool! Interesting to use. They are tiny little sheets that as soon as you take them out they stick to you. After about 5 in I learned how they worked & was able to stick them to my cake. Very happy with how it came out once I learned how they worked. Gave the naked cake an extra fancy feeling and look. Wish I would have ordered two.

DO NOT EAT THIS! This is not 24k gold ! I had it on hot food and gold color disappeared, became copper and silver! This is NOT what it claim to be and probably not edible. And I can't return it either. Don't buy this!

I'm a pastry chef and use lots of edible gold leaf. This is not a real product. It's thick and the color of off which has me believing it's not real. You can actually pick up the "leaf" and hold it. You need to pick it up to tear it. If you've worked with gold leaf before you know you can't touch it. You need a brush to handle it. I just discovered that you can't rerurn it and I'm not putting it on food. I don't trust it. Don't buy the fake leaf.

Product quality inconsistant

The first order I bought was great. It had that soft gold appearance and the squares were clingy and tore easily which I liked. When applied to the metal surface I was able to use a soft paint brush to apply and smooth out the surface. When I reordered I received a different gold leaf. It was tough and hard to tear even when is used my fingers. When I applied it to metal it left the surface looking wrinkly and layered. The color was such a bright gold it looked fake and plastic. Not happy at all. I used the powdered leafing instead and I'm quit happy with that.

It's not what it claims to be. It is not 24k gold. I bought it to put on my face and when I opened it, it already seemed suspicious. It felt like a sheet of plastic. After having put it on my face I decided to go back online where I had bought it, here, and read how other people also had the same complaints. I should've read the reviews before buying it. While it was on my face, it had the same smell money does. I checked if I can return it, and it's a none returnable item. Which makes sense because once people had it delivered and realized it's not what they had payed for, they would send it back!! Do not buy this item and waste your money the same way I did!

haha this is really a small amount. It looks pretty nice. But I just suggest the seller might need to give more detail descriptions about the size of the product. And warp it with a bright color envelope. When this was packed with another products in a package, people would possibly missed it since it was really so tiny.

I guess I was expecting the sheets to be a little bigger but the leaf will be used for a cake I was just hoping I could use them for more than one 😂
