DEAD robot.

I bought this for my 8 year old who was really excited about this for christmas. We put it all together, followed the instructions to a T and the stupid robot doesn't walk or anything. I made another battery and still nothing. Don't buy this. It's terrible. I wish I could get a refund. I may still try to get my money back. He was so let down by it. He was asking for it for 2 months. Also not to mention it's not even as tall as my hand is.

10 year old child couldn't get this to work. It was a gift and I felt kinda bad that I gave it to him.

neat and educational, but may require crafting

My 8yr old son and I assembled this robot today, but it wouldn't go. The wheels would turn a little bit, then stop. After investigating, I discovered the axle gear and right-rear wheel were getting stuck. I used an exacto knife to shave plastic on the chassis beside the axle gear and rear wheel until it would turn freely. The motor has decent RPM, but absolutely no torque, so any tiny little hinderance, like a partial grain of salt in the gears, stops it.

All-in-all, once I figured out the problem, this is a neat-o little robot and my son loves it.

We had fun building it together, which was the best part for me.

If not for the part where I had to trim the plastic on the chassis, this would definitely be a 5 star rating.

Finally, I really appreciate the "how it works" and "fun facts" portions of the instruction sheet. None of the other STEM kits I got my son for xmas had those.

Doesn't work

This is garbage. It's TINY. Also, even if you follow the instructions exactly, it doesn't move. The only way I could make the wheels spin was to squeeze the battery down. Unfortunately my son didn't put it together inn time to return it for a refund. Maybe the manufacturer or the distributor will do something.

Also, the instructions for the salt water mix are lacking. 2-3cm of water and just keep putting in salt until it won't dissolve anymore... That's ridiculous.

Design Flaw-Beware
by Kerry L. Ramirez (2 out of 5 stars)

The robot is cute when you put it together and the motor runs just like it is supposed to but the problem is with the gears. The teeth of the gears of the wheel axle and the gear of the motor do not touch, and there is no way to make them touch, you cannot force it or reposition it because the gears are preset and they cannot be moved. This is a design flaw. My grandson was very disappointed when he found out the motor worked but the robot could not move because the gear teeth don't touch. I asked for a refund. I don't trust a replacement, because if this is a design flaw, a replacement robot would not work either. Very disappointed little boy for Christmas. Unhappy grandma!

Worked well for me. Getting the battery in the slot to where it was touching the connectors for the motor was a little tricky, but once I got it then it was fine. Fun toy for the price and interesting to learn about a different kind of power source.

The cool part was

The robot is actually smaller than the picture on the box. The cool part was, the battery. That was it. Stirring the salt to water. It took my son about 10 min. To assemble ( 9 yo with reading the instruction) then he begin to asked questions like can I make it bigger, more powerful!!! So more likely a toy for a 5 to 7! If they add couple more parts to improve, I would happily paid more to it. It is like a cool mini lego set. But nothing more. At least they could have include more info about salt water.

Didn't work, but had fun trying.

Despite some bad reviews, I decided to buy this robot anyway as a present for my niece (11 yr old). She loves to build things with my engineer husband. Her robot never did anything. She still talked excitedly about how they tried to get it to work, so it was good for the experience of building it and testing different things, but if you want a working robot, you might want to go with a different one.

Creative and fun

4M Salt Water Powered Robot Kit is easy to assemble as well as informative and creative as it shows that energy can be created in many ways. We are so powered with batteries that it seems like a miracle to have power by other means.

Was soooooo tiny. My grandsons Mother helped him build it as part of his home school science project. It did not work. They went back through all the instructions and it still did not work. He was soooo disappointed.
