Fantastic, but QC issues for such an expensive item

This is a difficult review.

The positives:
- the cooler sounds awesome!
- Bluetooth worked great
- Battery lasted all day and some of the evening, I eventually turned it off before it died
- Kept ice for 3 days (and still had plenty of ice when I dumped it on day 3)
- Definitely handled floating down the river on a raft for 7 hours, water guns were fired across it and no issues with water getting on it

The negatives:
- Because it's so heavy in the lid, and requires two hands to hold the latches up while opening, it can be a bit difficult to simply grab a beer out of. This is particularly bad when you're rafting, but I can't really fault the product...just a note (magnets to hold up the latches would be perfect)
- the low rated cardboard box it came in (with not a single piece of packing material) was partially crushed and torn; the latches had been partially damaged during shipping due to poor packing (though still work), one of the speaker's screws was stripped and sticking out, the power button was partially popped out upon arrival, there was a small tear on the foam handle grip
- there are clear quality control issues with the fabrication and assembly. The adhesive for the custom cover under the lid didn't stick by the end of day 1. Because there are two screws holding the cover in place, it doesn't really affect anything, but just looks tacky for such an expensive item
- the volume control is a little scratchy on adjustment
- the broadcast Bluetooth device name didn't match what was listed in the instruction sheet (not really a manual)

Overall, it seems like a product that a very small group of people are working on, marketing, assembling, etc. There's certainly nothing wrong with that, but they really need to beef up the quality control, presentation, and packaging; especially for a $500 product.

Form out of the way, the function delivers exactly as advertised; even better than advertised, I'd say. It gets very loud, but sounds clear and solid. There was another group of people on the river with a similar cooler (NOT JamCooler), while it did have the advantage of speakers on the sides instead of facing up (primarily an issue only when rafting), the sound quality of their cooler was crap; lots of distortion and not as loud.

Also, the battery lasted way longer than I actually expected it would under real usage.

Would I recommend this cooler? Absolutely. I'd buy another one, in spite of the quality control, presentation, and packaging issues.

I really want to give 5 stars simply because it does deliver better than advertised, but the quality issues prevent me from doing so.
