So you have to unplug and re-plug the thing repeatedly if you want to attempt to get good quality ofby J. Walker (2 out of 5 stars)

This is one of those cases where they tried to do too much (too many things) with too little (lower quality materials, display, and software). The way this microscope runs, you can never really take advantage of the full resolution of the sensor. This is because you never get to see any picture you are taking until you upload it to a computer. The display included on the microscope does not show the full resolution. Also, there is no way to take pictures while connected to a computer. So you have to unplug and re-plug the thing repeatedly if you want to attempt to get good quality of the finest details it should be able to capture. Also, there is no adjustability to the angle, contrast, gain, etc. in the image capture, and no way to really add your own lighting to improve what you can see. The high angularity of the provided lighting (it appears to be a set of LED's in a ring) has the result that features with any depth at all are not viewable. The mechanics are all plastic and very flexible, leading to additional difficulties in use. The focus adjustment is very coarse, but might be usable if one could view in real-time just how in-focus the image is. As-is, overall this is a very minimally useful device. I would not buy this microscope for any purpose. Better to save up your pennies and buy a more expensive one with better quality.
Great price, sold performance

I bought this microscope to examine mineral samples. It is perfect for field work and the battery life is very good. The USB accessibility allows quick charging as well as transfer of images to laptop/computer screens. The maximum resolution of 400x is more than ample for the built in screen. I haven't tried but I imagine that the 400x resolution is designed to be viewed on a computer screen with more pixels. Very lightweight and easy to carry. I am extremely pleased with this purchase
Would recommend for anyone

This has been a great little microscope for me for the last two years but now I need higher magnification. But now after buying THREE other microscopes that have been defective (didn't charge, screen kept falling off, base didn't stick) I now appreciate this old one so much more. It's worked like a trooper - easy to use right out of the box and it's been consistent and works great. I wish they made a higher magnification model. No hesitation to recommend this microscope to anyone adult or child. Great microscope.
great for coins

As a coin collector this is a great tool to take pictures and save the information in your computer. It is very good in grading your coins by looking at every part of the coin.
Great technology, execution could be much better.

Very disappointed the the right focusing knob was broken as received. Being a Mfg. Engineer, it was clear that the packaging was excellent and not the root cause. Most likely a bad molding of the part or excessive speed/force when inserting on the metal piece. I suspect I am not likely to be the only one with this problem. Also disappointed there was no lighting from below, which would be useful for viewing std. prepared slides. The auto light adjustment seemed to fight the use of the internal light.
Hopelessly damaged when it arrived

The product arrived with the specimen table broken, the CD smashed, the battery missing. I cannot understand how some this damaged would not have been inspected before being sold. It was not damaged in transit to me.
Really deplorable.
Does NOT zoom to x160
by john E. Bauer Jr. (3 out of 5 stars)

Does not zoom to x160. I emailed customer service and they told me to use the gray dial on the front - that dial controls the contrast of the picture , not the zoom. Cust service then said that a clear contrast will make the picture appear larger. I will say that the screen is very clear and convienent . My kids still enjoy using it but it's not advertised correctly and I would have liked them to see more details in the pictures.
VERY NICE !

"Infiniview LCD Microscope by Celestron" Purchaed through Adorama from Amazon

"Our 7-year old twin boys have recently started showing an interest in science so we thought a microscope would help foster their curiosity. Having purchased Celestron products in the past, we decided on the Infiniview LCD Microscope and once again Celestron delivers. It is incredibly easy to set up and use, even for kids. We had the microscope completely set up within five minutes from the time we removed it from the box and within 10 minutes we were practically experts at using it. The kids quickly ran outside and started collecting grass, leaves and sticks to view. We then located a bag of marbles and the kids were amazed by what they were seeing. I was able find a memory card and we were able to capture our findings and load them onto the computer. The LCD screen and the image captures are clear and of high-quality. We will leave the microscope out on the table with the hopes that our kids will be invited to continue exploring and learning. We are very pleased with our purchase and highly recommend this microscope for families."

I thought this was a great mocroscope for about 4 months. Unfortunately, now I cannot get a clear picture of anything. Very disappointed as Ceslestron usually makes good products. Don't waste your money on this.
