Pros:
-fairly inexpensive
-EL wire seems fine
-sound activated mode works
Cons:
-Contrary to the item description, this unit does NOT have a button that switches between: on, strobe, and sound activated. It ONLY does sound activated mode.
-This controller unit is obviously a 3 el wire controller that someone cut off the 3rd pair and made this into a "2 line controller". The remaining bit of wire from the removed line has a bit of exposed copper. I just tested with my multimeter and the removed line is still live. Making this unit slightly dangerous and likely to short itself out.
This is not a random bad unit. I bought two and they are identical. :-(

This arrived very fast and is a very cool product have. Take 4 batteries (not 3) to run, but other than that, as described.
but I was disappointed to find my sensor was faulty in that way

The devise works as it should, but for whatever reason mine can't run on the brand new batteries I put in it. Thankfully my project didn't require it to be cordless so I just plug it in, but I was disappointed to find my sensor was faulty in that way.
ehhhh.... better not.

Stopped working after a night of use. 'Sensitivity' adjustment wasn't very sensitive. Basically all the way off or all the way sensitive are your options. Would not purchase again.

They are exactly what I was looking for. It was a hit in the Lighting parade of Aruba. Carnaval 60 was the best in the world.

Used this on a festival totem at LIB and worked pretty good for a while. After a few hours of use you could barely see any illumination. I cant believe nobody commented on the longevity. The sound controls worked well and could be adjusted with a wheel when standing in front of a speaker stack or walking far away from the stages. keep the wheel easily accessible if the sound levels will change. Also the "purple pink aqua" set is really just three aqua two of which have a colored sleeve which means they give off less light than the pure aqua. A faint buzz at home but I couldn't hear it even if I tried at a festival. All I would say is bring extra batteries, you will need to swap them out after 3+ hours.

Does what it is intended to do.
Only functions on sound-activated mode.
The sensitivity wheel is pretty finicky. It was pretty difficult to get it to work properly while walking around EDC Vegas 2015. The constant change in sound levels whiel at any festival mean you will be adjusting it constantly between songs/environments.
For the price, you get what you pay for. If you want something that will automatically adjust to the ambient sound, you need to learn to build your own.

These worked excellent for costuming. Sewed them in a pattern over a black bra for my wife. They held up through 4+ hours of partying and seem pretty sturdy. Trimmed them down with no issue, but I recommend sealing them with hot glue or resin if you trim so moisture does not get in. Sound sensitivity had to be adjusted from time to time when the music changed, but no more than expected.
