Smells like a bathroom, otherwise ok
by Luca (4 out of 5 stars)

I know these work because I've used them before in a storage unit, but I took a chance on the scented ones to use in my home as a cheap dehumidifier, because I love the scent of lavender oil. It smells like bathroom or garage air freshener, so I don't recommend it for your home (unless you're into that sort of thing). That's my only reason for the one star off.

More tips: these WILL leak if you capture a lot of humidity and don't check them often enough, because they work that well. So I suggest placing them on a rimmed plate or something similar, just in case. Reviewers for various damprid products are complaining that it leaked saltwater and ruined their stuff, but if you check it often enough and take basic precautions, that won't happen. You might want to keep it away from any furniture or clothing that would upset you if ruined, just in case.

We love these! ..Even more with our hack!
by T. (5 out of 5 stars)

These little things have been such a lifesaver in our house. We deal with excess humidity daily, especially during rainy months. We keep them under all of the beds, in the closets, and in the bathroom.

Here's what I've learned..
- The lavender/vanilla & fresh scented ones smell like they should be used to keep a toilet bowl fresh. It's not that they stink, because they don't - I just don't think I would want a bedroom or my clothes smelling like either of them. The lavender/vanilla has a much stronger scent than the fresh scent, so there's that.
- The scent does not change how well they work. They're all awesome.
- They sell a giant refill container once you use the initial DampRid. Buy that. It saves so much money and refills a ton of the tiny containers.
- Keep an eye on them! Depending on how humid the target area is, check on these every week or every other week. Keep something under them to protect your surfaces. I've never had one overflow, but the more full they are, the more likely they are to get knocked over.
- Speaking of which... Do you have a cat? A child? Are you clumsy? Maybe all of the above? (Like myself) This WILL get knocked over, and it WILL make a mess. A weird, slimy, chemically, wet mess. We have had 4 spill, and each one was a pain in the butt to clean up. However, we kept using them and kept changing up our storage method to try to avoid the spilling.

How did we do that, you ask?!

For under the beds- Disposable cooking pans WITH lids. I use lasagna pans with lids, because there is absolutely no way for my naughty demon-kitty to knock them over. I swear, he would wait until they got more than halfway full then spill them everywhere. Not anymore! I win! I just put the lid on the pan and cut a round hole in the top to sit the DampRid in. No more spills under the bed.

The Cure-All for a Damp and Stinky Safe!
by Roberta (5 out of 5 stars)
September 27, 2017

I have a small, in-home safe that has become very stinky and damp...from what I understand, safes do this after a while. It was so bad that I thought I had to buy a new safe. I tried some other products (including rechargeable desiccants) that just weren't effective and ended up in the trash. DampRid really works! Now my safe smells good and the enclosed papers are dry. I like that they hold a considerable amount of water so I don't have to constantly check it. Great product!

I also put one in my closet and takes the bad odors from the walls

They work well, and took the muskie smell of my basement. I also put one in my closet and takes the bad odors from the walls.

It adds a nice smell to my clean clothes, and to my home. Not overwelming smell, rather a clean laundry smell. It collects water from the humidity in the air and prevents the mold growing. Good price for 2 boxes! Get it, and you will not regret it!

Product works, but stinks like kitty litter or worse!
by Maryann (2 out of 5 stars)
July 5, 2018

Lavender Vanilla smells AWFUL, like kitty litter or a porta-pot. Seriously wretched! I used it for 2 months in a closet, as I thought I smelled mold or mustiness.

Damp rid definitely absorbed some water and worked as intended. But the stench was unbearable! Opening all windows and putting the fan on helped tremendously, with smells and drying the place out.

I might try the Unscented version, but the lavender vanilla is for the birds!

Love these!

I don't know what price you were buying them out to but I found a great value for these so I ordered a bunch. I live in a home way up in the mountains with a basement that stays very moist. I have dehumidifiers running but I find that places like closets need the damp rid buckets just for extra peace of mind. Especially around pictures or things that I don't wanna ruined. The smell was great they are small enough to stick in small spaces and they do their job very well !!! I especially like the fact that they are refillable so when the crystals run out you dump the water out and just buy the refill crystals to reuse the buckets over and over. Another plus ! I bought the lavender and it is a nice pleasant scent

Keeps the moisture out of my RV
by MNL (5 out of 5 stars)
August 5, 2019

We are living in our RV in the 100+ degree heat/humidity of Texas and I needed something to help keep the moisture level in the RV down. I use one in the bathroom and the other in the front room of the RV and they truly help keep the moisture out of the air. The humidity is keep lower, but without over drying the air which a dehumidifier can do on occasion. They are not pretty containers or provide a very strong scent, so that is why I gave the a 3 star rating for this area.

Defiantly worth it.
by Edward Alexander (5 out of 5 stars)

It's easy to set up, collects water properly, and is easily disposed of.

They fill the room with a pleasant scene, too.

The only con:

We don't have little children in our home anymore, thusly when it was tipped over we noticed it looked very candy like.

Another bonus, it vacuums up easily!

WOW
by Ginger D'Anne Maero (5 out of 5 stars)
November 25, 2019

I live in northern WA and it's very damp here. Moved here from Utah where it's very dry so definitely not use to the moisture. Whenever I'd get dressed for the day, my clothes would be damp, and my bathroom was starting to grow mold. Thought I'd give Damp Rid a try. Let me just say, WORTH IT! I have one in my closet and one in each bathroom. WOW!, what a difference it's made! And the smell is wonderful! Plus, they've lasted for 3 months going on 4. Inexpensive and very much worth the few bucks I paid. I WILL be ordering more!!

This stuff works
by Maria Marcella (5 out of 5 stars)
July 23, 2019

I love this. I live in Southern Maryland and it gets HUMID here in the summer. My basement doesn't have climate control so it was getting super musty. I put eleven of these in my 1500 square foot basement yesterday and it already smells better. It's not 100% but it's SO MUCH BETTER. I figured i would use so many cause it had gotten so bad down there but it was so worth it. I got eight of these and three of the hanging ones. This works so well. Worth the money!
