Like it, don't love it

After having either demoed or bought every other known lapdesk product that is, or has been, available over the last 5 years, I really believe this is the best product on the market for people who want to work or game on a couch, loveseat or recliner.

This one stands apart from the others in several ways: it sits on its own support arms, and not directly on the user's lap; it is large enough for full sized keyboard and mouse, with plenty of movement space; it is "modular", so it easily accommodates users and furniture of different widths, and can be easily stored when not in use; it is wired for keyboard, mouse, and usb expansion slots so you can game from the couch without experiencing wireless-peripheral latency, but can stow the cable easily and be fully untethered; it offers a storage pocket for other accessories; it is generally sturdy and well made.

But it's not perfect. The major drawback is the height of the side bolsters. They aren't adjustable, and will only be comfortable for users with a spine and arm length in a certain range. At 5'6" I am on the short end of this range, and have to have my wrists above my elbows (t-rex arms) or crank my shoulders to my ears for the keyboard to be a usable height. Clearly, this is only comfortable for short periods of time and is capable of causing injury if used too long. If the foam inside the bolsters had been assembled in layers instead of a block, we shorter gamers could remove one or more layers as needed, giving us the perfect height. This would cause some bunching and gaping of the vinyl cover, but would be preferable to spending a few hundred dollars on something that can only be used for 30 minutes before causing discomfort. The other drawback is that the wrist rests are hard and the transition ridges are rough, doubly noticeable because said height challenges mean my wrists are pressing into the rests during use, rather than hovering over them.

I've been able to mitigate the height issues on my own by moving my furniture around and using just the board on the recliner arms, tossing the bolsters into the basement to collect dust. If they were in any way height adjustable, this would be a 5-star product.

The best way to play PC games from the couch
by Joe (5 out of 5 stars)
March 7, 2018

I'm going to start off by saying I almost never write any reviews. However I felt that I had to make sure that anyone who is thinking about buying the couch master knows that it's completely worth it.

Recently I got myself a brand new gaming PC that has some seriously good specs. Being a console gamer, I got tired of seeing stuff come out for PC and not having access to it. Also I decided I wanted to play Overwatch (my favorite game right now) in the way it was meant to be played.

I couldn't see having to sit at a computer desk and using a small monitor when I have a 55 inch HD television so I immediately started looking for ways in which I could use my television and play PC games from my couch. It's unfortunate that there really aren't many options. However in my research I stumbled upon the couch master.

I figured I would dive in and give it a shot considering how comfortable it looked and that I could use a wired keyboard and mouse when I'm sitting so far from the PC.

Upon receiving it and setting it up it really matched and exceeded my expectations. It is durable and comfortable. There are little extras like a USB port right on top for quick little charges for my cell phone or headset. And of course the most important thing: it's super comfortable. I feel like I'm just relaxing on the couch when I play. Also, I'm a big guy (6'2 and broad) and this product accommodates people of all shapes and sizes.

It's amazing to me that no companies see the value in couch PC gaming, but for now, long live the couch master.

Great idea, good design, mediocre drawbacks
by Trenton Bennett (4 out of 5 stars)

I'm thrilled that I can game on my PC and use my home theater's TV and speakers--it spoils me! This solution is a bit pricey, but it works--with some drawbacks.

Pros: the design is simple, somewhat sturdy, and it works well: you balance the lap board across two soft rectangular forms, one of which has a pocket for storage.
- There's a 4-port USB hub
- It comes with a mouse mat
- The size of the board is generous - plenty of room for my huge gaming keyboard, a keypad, and a mouse.
- The board is sturdy and resting your arms on the side pieces is comfortable. It's easy to get up by just lifting the board and setting it on the floor.

Some of the cons are particular to gamers--but since this product is designed for gamers, that's important.
- the 4-port hub is not powered. You can buy a power adapter from their website (Euro plug only) or buy an aftermarket AC adapter that can be configured to 9V. I reached out to the manufacturer and bought one that they recommended, but it can still be hit and miss because...
- the power may not be enough. I have a Razer Chroma Black Widow keyboard which takes two USB ports. I also have a Razer OrbWeaver Chroma, a keypad that takes another USB port. I can't plug anything else in or the hub cuts out. I plug the base for my wireless mouse into my computer and I use a wireless controller from my PC's ports.
- my optical mouse didn't like the mouse mat. I have a Razer Ouroboros and it was laggy and would drop out. I use a Razer eXactMat, so this is no big deal.
- the cables can come loose. If I lose power to the USB hub, I have to take apart the board (unscrew 10 screws), unplug and re-plug everything, and then it will come back again. It helps to wind the USB hub's cord around the pillars on the inside so it can't get pulled out of its socket, because that socket is inside one of the two panels underneath the unit--you're unscrewing it to get to them.
- The hexagonal opening on the top may not let a gamer keyboard fit through it. The Black Widow has a chunk on the cable that contains two USB cords and two 1/8" plugs for its headset extension. It was just slightly too big to pass through the opening, so I had to Dremel out one of the openings and then sand it down for a smooth finish.

If I could wave my magic wand and make it all perfect, I'd do this:
- slightly increase the size of the cable opening
- make the underside panels opened by a thumb latch instead of 5 screws each
- include an AC adapter that can sufficiently power a 4-port hub with high-drain devices connected to it.

Almost perfect

With a few tweaks this would be the best possible solution for couch gaming.

The arms need to be adjustable vertically, and ideally from side to side as well. The arms are also made out of some faux leather material that will stick to your skin, so it can be uncomfortable. I am guessing they would eventually peel too because it seems like bonded leather, but I am not sure about that.

Being able to adjust size and tilt of the board itself would be a plus, but not really all that necessary like adjustable arms are.

The design of the cord management is well done, nothing that sticks out the bottom or anything, and it all has channels for routing to be out of the way and on the side you want it to be on. The inner space for cords can be cramped, especially for keyboards like the Corsair K70 keyboard with that thick cord it has. You have to adjust it to make it all fit back together, but it is doable.

It's just okay
by Jacob Spence (3 out of 5 stars)

I'd give it 2.5 stars if possible. First the good, these arm cushions however still new feel great. The cross board feels alright good hard plastic, nothing crazy. Side pocket not really sure what to do with it yet maybe hold usb's or something they show a drink in that pouch in the pictures id advise against that unless you want a sticky pouch there, id advise they build a cup holder addition that you can screw in if that's what they are going after. Not sure why the mouse bag comes with. The not so great included mouse pad is just okay i swapped it out to my razer control mouse pad instead. The wire management isn't great it relies on the bottom of the plastic to hold it in place. The powered usb cable they include, well they don't include the plugin for that. Apparently they expect you to buy that separately tack that on to the price and it gets better they only have a uk plug adapter, nothing for North American plugs. This also took 47 days to get to my house so shipping isn't a strong spot. I have an email saying because of the wait and me being one of the first to order that I was being sent a "surprise gift" so good on them but i assume it will also take a month and a half to get here. For $150 i feel as though it could have been better. My friend wanted to buy one but I'm having him wait and try this before he decides.

Read this carefully!

Ok, I want to give an in-depth review of this item because I really feel like it's a fantastic product but it's not for everyone.

I'll start with table size. This lapdesk is great for gaming and general productivity. It has plenty of room for a full size keyboard and mouse setup. I use a trackball instead so I feel like I have even more room.

Now for the height. This is the first point where there could be issues for certain people. This lapdesk will not fit you of you are small. I am 5'10" (178cm) 220lb (100kg) and this fits me great. Of you were 5'4"(162cm) or smaller this might be too big for you. Because the cushions that hold it up are not adjustable you would be out of luck.

As far as value, I suppose it depends on how you think about it. Could you make something like this for less? Sure. Would it be this nice? Probably not. I feel it's a fair price to pay for something as polished as this.

Functionality wise, it's fairly well designed. I'll go ahead and beat the dead horse though, the screws that hold on the back are awful. A push-in panel would be much nicer. The built in USB hub will work fine for your mouse, keyboard, and headset assuming they dont draw too much power. It does have a limit (I think 900mah?) Which is standard for small USB hubs for computers. If you have some fancy light-up keyboard and mouse you will need the additional power adapter.

Final notes: this is great for average sized to large sized people who dont have high power peripherals. I do think at this price the power adapter should be included. Also, those screws need to go, nobody likes them guys. An actual cup holder would be nice too.

I would recommend this to anybody looking to start couch gaming.

but the thing is pretty massive and unwieldy

It does what it's supposed to do as a niche product, but the thing is pretty massive and unwieldy. If you want to play mouse and keyboard games from your couch, there aren't really any better options.

Much better than expected, Must own for couch gamers.

I've had my PC in the living room for a long time which presented problems for mouse/kb play so I generally used a controller which meant I'd have little chance of winning anything pvp and be at a disadvantage in coop.

That's all changed. After looking at literally hundreds of different potential solutions I accidentally found this and knew instantly it was what I needed.

First it fits my large Logitech keyboard and powermod mat mousepad. The unit itself does come with its own pretty good quality mouse pad though.

Second it allows me to play on my couch while still reclined so I can still sit back and relax like with a controller buy with the massive added accuracy of a mouse and keyboard.

Assembly is simple, you just remove a few screws to setup the USB hub and run your wife's although thumb tab locks would have worked better for quick access... I tested the hub and it worked great but I won't be using it simply because I already had extension cables to reach my couch.

All in all this thing is very simple to setup and use, it makes couch gaming with MKB incredibly easy and because it's 3 separate pieces it's incredibly simple to just life the board and store that and the 2 foam arm rests in a closet or something.

I really couldn't have asked for a better device. I didn't really have an issue with the keyboard moving but a rubber like surface where the keyboard goes would be fantastic but again not necessary as they provide Velcro for you that you can use to keep everything in place.

I'd definitely buy it again in a heartbeat.

Couchmaster, So nice, I bought it twice!
by Castillo1313 (4 out of 5 stars)
September 26, 2019

TLDR; Very nice platform. Side cushions may wear fast over time, and storage when not in use is a pain. Over amazing, very versatile, and worth it if you have no other choices for computing solutions!

So, I was looking for something like this in a pinch. My wife and I bought two new computers after not having a primary computer for a while, in excitement for the release of WoW Classic. As soon as we bought our laptops, we new that comfort was going to be an issue. We started by getting a fold out table and setting up in our living room, but that got old fast. Then we bought some just TV tray tables, but again, with big comfy couches , you still had to lean forward so far to be able to use them. I then finally came across this CouchMaster while google searching "Laptop trays". It looked perfect for our situation, but the price did seem a bit steep. I held out for a day, but when I had to put the table away again at the end of the night, I thought to myself, lets try it.

Shipping was slow, but I never fault the selling company for that when there is a third party involved. The package came and it was quite large. Unboxing was a normal experience and upon unboxing, I did not notice anything wrong out of the box.

Setup was easy, set the two foam cushions where your sitting, sit in between them and place the board on your lap with the two ends on the cushions..

This is intended to be used as just a keyboard/mouse stand with cables reaching to a PC near the TV in your living room. but I had a laptop that I just wanted to sit comfortably with me on my big oversized couch.

Mounting my controls was more interesting than I thought it would be. You have to pull it in with enough slack to move, just enough for play, but then the pole on the inside of the system, you take the excess and wrap it all around that and then plug it in. Its not to bad of a system, but I am slightly worried about what effect it may do to my cable over time of being in there.

The cable to power the HUB that is installed into the system and come out was plenty long, but with my setup of placing my laptop on the board, it really was in the way being a straight plug in. I then bought a 90 degree USB adapter, and as you can see, it makes it plug in flush to my system and does not protrude out in my way anymore. I also drilled an additional hole in the back to run it more direct for better cable management. Not a fault on the manufacturer, but it was actually nice that this system is plastic and that i was able to do that. I also installed a cable holder for my power supply, just so it would't be dangling in between my lefts and was just routed off to the side while i sit.

Overall, this system is very nice. Comfortable to use, and very versatile. the foam that is used for the side cushions is firm at first, but they do seem like they may wear over time, so finding replacement s in the future may be an issue. There is even times where I just use the tray and set on my lap when I just wanna play around on my laptop for a quick bit. But I get the cushions when I know i'll be setting for a good gaming session.

When I got mine in and started using it a few times, my wife decided that she wanted on for her system too. So we bought another one. Hers is in the picture and is still stock. she will be mainly just using hers for more of a seat with her laptop and wireless mouse plugged directly into her laptop.

Storage is a little bit of a pain. for my wife, not so much. she just puts her laptop and mouse up and then she can store her cushions and board anywhere she needs.

With my setup, with having my gaming keypad and mouse mounted inside and semi-permanent, I am only able to store my board level. I use the supplied mouse bag to store the mouse so it doesn't flop around, but it isn't perfect. My game pad has some good rubber feet and doesn't shift/move to much. but like I said, when you have these things installed as intended, storage does become an issue.

Overall, great product. Price is a bit high to take a chance, but if your in a situation of like what I needed, it is well worth it.

Good solution for couch-pc gaming
by Arya Underfoot (4 out of 5 stars)
October 3, 2019

My husband and I connected our computers to TVs in the family room and the Couchmaster has been a good solution for using our computer peripherals. It is probably the best product you can find on Amazon for gaming from your couch. With gaming you generally want wired keyboards/mice and this product is specifically excellent in terms of being able to organize all of the different cords. Including velcro to attach your wires to the inside is a nice touch. Overall it is also very well made, which is something I appreciate as the market is always flooded with cheap products. It is also a lot longer than I expected, so there is plenty of room for a keyboard, mouse, and gaming pad. It comes with pockets you can put your mouse into - and while thoughtful, we don't use them for that reason but we do use them for holding other things.

A criticism of this product falls mainly on the armrests. I am a smaller woman (5'0") and they are simply too high for me, which is a shame because they are also well made. I also appreciate the stitching on the armrests and the material is nice. Instead I have been using pillows of a more appropriate height. There are other reviews that list this as the biggest complaint, so I think if the company made the arm rests adjustable then this product for me would be 5 stars. I also could do without the massive "COUCHMASTER" inscription that goes across the entire product. I also don't need a product I spend a lot of money on to say "COMFORTABLE PC GAMING" on it in large letters, or at all. In general I hate when companies make nice looking products then ruin them by stamping their logo all over it and this is nearly worse than that. The words on the product are a different material and because they are etched in, sometimes my keyboard gets stuck on them or doesn't sit flat. People will mainly be using these at home - this needless advertising should be removed!

Another thing is that we ordered two Couchmasters, and one came with a mousepad and instructions, and the other one did not.
