Most reviews recommend this crockpot for party warmers overlooking all the cooking possibilities to resolve issues with the picky eaters in your family. This crockpot cooks the same as a large one, but it resolves issues for those who don't like spices & sauces as other family members. The 1qt pots are perfect size for one, I like chicken thighs and my husband likes the breast. One crock will hold 2 thighs or 1 breast. My husband doesn't care for onions, sauces or certain spices as I do, so I season his with what he likes then mine with what I like. I'm required a low salt diet, he loves food salty and spicy hot. So, I divide meats into single severing then freeze ready for crock. Great for finicky eating grandkids who can add what they want, great fun when the visit. Family's can join two together and everyone gets what they want for dinner. I divide a pound of ground beef into 2 making individual 1/2 pound meat loafs, one with tomato gravey with onions, then one with beef gravy without onions. As seen in photos, each with one potato. Other photo is pepper steak in one and BBQ thighs in the other. You can eat directly out of crockpot if you like making clean up easy and fast. Genius Crockpot with great cooking abilities for 1-2 people. Heats the same as the larger crocks. I would recommend to crockpot company for future ideas to make the duel crocks with own on/off temperature setting knobs, giving you the capability to cook in just one pot.

Perfect for small sides and get-togethers!

I bought this to use specifically for the holidays. I have to work and cook, and it can be pretty tricky to find the time to get everything done and still have time with family. This year, I decided to crockpot the majority of my meal to save some time.
I have a family of four, and we have two boys who, along with my husband, all like to eat a lot. I was concerned about the size of the stoneware for this, because the two pieces both look small, but they're very deep and held enough food to leave us with some leftovers for the rest of the week.

The only real downside to this is that there is only one temperature control for both sides. Depending on your cook times for dishes, you may need to start one dish first or precook some ingredients so that everything is done at the same time. I made sure my sweet potato pieces were super small so they would cook through in the same amount of time as my green beans, and it worked perfectly.

The biggest surprise perk with this set is that the outside of the crockpot does not get as warm as a standard crockpot, meaning I can leave it on the counter and don't have to worry about who's climbing up to get snacks (again, mom of two young boys who are always eating!). They're perfect for buffet style parties because of this! I could throw a whole row of these right on my island and just let everyone serve themselves. So convenient and host friendly!

I bought this to serve 2 types of dips this weekend for a party and it worked really well. I was out of time so I ended up making the dips first and transferring them to the bowls set to warm. Both dips where perfectly hot the whole time and I also like that I can connect this with outher crock pot units. I would definitely recommend this product!

After breaking a large Rival crock pot I used for years I decided to go with replacing it with the hookups because my kids are older, I have a granddaughter and extended family and our gatherings are growing. I like to make "spreads" and these appealed to me to keep foods I had been serving warm...I ordered the double here first to see how it worked. My base did not get dangerously hot as someone else stated in a review. The retractable cord isn't very smooth but we did get it back in. I loved the sturdiness, and three settings. Only disadvantage I found was this unit has two sides but one control. So you can't individually controltemps. I christianed my crock pot hookup with spinach-artichoke dip on one side and just melted brie cheese on the other. While I was concerned about turning the unit on high with the brie cheese, I needed to cook the dip. It took quite awhile to really heat up the dip and I was worried about leaving the other side empty but did for almost an hour. When dip seemed bubbly I turned down to low and added the brie cheese to other side. (I cut a round in half, left in rind and placed both halves in pot cut side up). Cheese melted perfectly for spreading and never burned. Dip cooked perfectly and stayed warm. I'm going to order a couple more units. Really like this machine so far!

Great product, but don't drop the lid.

The cord is hard to put away on these, but I actually love the product .... except the very first time I used it I dropped the lid and the knob on top of the cover snapped off. Even then I would kind of just replace it, but the lid knobs don't seem to be available even direct from Crock Pot. So since I got it I have had to use a butter knife and hot pad to open the top, which ruins the idea of using it for a party.

If I get the knob issue resolved I will update this review.

And I got it resolved. They are sending a whole new unit because they don't have any knobs.

Defective

Crock developed tiny spiderweb like cracks all over bottom. Even when perfectly cleaned after use it molds along these cracks. The first time it happened I thought maybe I put it in the heat unit slightly damp. I just used it again with the same molding and more tiny cracks all over outside of the black crock insert.

Perfect for side dishes or small batches

This is so great! I use it 3 or 4 times a week, for small batches (3-4 servings), or for a veggie side dish. It is not big and bulky, it is just fantastic. I will most likely be getting a few more for the holidays as they interlock and work off 1 outlet to keep dishes warm.

One of the crock pots had several spots around the outside rim that looks like the black enamel was rubbed off. Minor problem but noticeable if used for serving.

We were excited to receive our Double Oval - Crock-Pot and immediately opened it when it arrived.

First Impression - Plastic. The colors may look metallic, but the entire base is made from a hard plastic. It gives it a very poor quality feeling. I suppose we expected aluminum, at least. We've never owned a plastic covered Crock-Pot.

The cord is crimped and twisted inside a cavity on the underside, which I can only wonder at the insulation of when considering how hot this entire thing gets. It does not self-retract, as some have questioned. I also did not see that it said it would anywhere in the product description. This means stuffing the cord back in by hand. Not as simple as it sounds either.

So, how does it work, right?

It certainly gets hot. Like anything you plug into an electrical socket is capable of doing. This does it extremely well. So well, in fact, that you will wonder why there isn't more insulation and begin to ponder at when the plastic casing might begin to melt. The bottom, as others have mentioned, gets hot. Also the sides. The front. The back. This is not safe to touch by any means and it might even get hot enough to scorch your counters. We had placed it on our glass-top stove, after reading other reviews, though that isn't exactly an ideal place for it's purpose in serving for parties.

Does it cook, though?

Given time, plenty of time, it will cook. This holds in the heat, as well as moisture, to keep things simmering right along.

As a serving dish, this is a grand idea, since ideally you're just keeping food warm.

Do I sound like a dissatisfied customer? That may not be the case yet. We're going to try it this Thanksgiving as a serving dish, placing a heat pad beneath it and moderating the temperature. We may even test it out on a spare piece of linoleum from the garage, just to see if it would be safe above it. After that, I'll return to update this review..

I've increased my rating to 5 Stars on this product. Honestly, I should have updated this quite some time back. My initial skepticism has been washed away. We've used these numerous times for keeping meatballs and other snacks warm for parties, including Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Looks are deceiving and I'll admit the overall plastic design threw me. It does get too hot to move around once you've got it going, but that's nothing to be surprised at. There certainly is no burning plastic smell about it, which is immensely pleasing.

While I haven't found any use for it as far as cooking, it does great service at parties for simmering sauces or keeping treats nice and hot. In fact, I'm starting to think I need a second one to pair together!

Actually keeps food hot. Remember that these are real cockpots that cook food too. My veggies got a bit mushy. I'll time it better next time and make sure it's on warm. Love that I can serve food in a neat, uniform way. Improves the presentation greatly.

I always forget to take pictures, but I love these. I actually end up using my 2 quarts more than the 5 or 1 at, but I don't generally entertain more than 10 or 12 people at a time.
