looks great, feels cheapby B. Freeman (4 out of 5 stars)

I really like the look of these bookends. The magnetic end pieces are an especially nice touch. My only complaint is that the end pieces are made of an extremely lightweight plastic and feel very cheap. For the price I paid, I expected higher quality materials. However, since it is for display only, that's really a pretty minor gripe.

These are awesome looking! The only thing to account for is that you will be placing a metal "L" shaped bracket inside the first and last book's covers. So place some books you do not use much there otherwise you will have to deal with taking the blade or handle off and resetting the books.
Most of the structure is plastic; but it looks really cool!

My students get a big kick out of these bookends, and it's funny to see the reactions of parents, administrators, and other random visitors to my classroom when they first notice them.
I've had some who actually assumed I stabbed a bunch of books. Haha.
As a conversation piece, I can't recommend these bookends more highly.
The magnets hold very firmly. The only negative is that the books on the ends will be a bit tough to access with the metal on the inside cover. I solved that problem by using books that my kids rarely gravitate towards as my end pieces.
Go for it.

No regrets from this purchase. Just put your paperbacks on the ends and you've got a pretty dope looking bookshelf. As soon as I get more books, I'll more than likely order more.

No really, this thing is as brilliant as it is easy to use and it's exactly what you see in the pictures. As you might imagine, they're not real swords and they're not metal either, they're plastic and they use magnets hidden metal book ends and magnets to stay in place. The hidden metal bookends go in the cover of the books on either end and they're invisible; you can't tell they're there.
I only have about half a dozen books between them and a surprising number of people around the office have asked me if they're being held in place with really powerful magnets. I always say yes.
Looks very original holding my Aikido, Star Wars and Old West books. I love it

The magnets are not powerful enough to work on hard cover books... But that simple. Just use paperback books on the ends.
Love it. AOh! and also you have the option to remove both ends of the sword and use the bookends alone, and it still looks professional and nice
Magnet won't stick to a thick cover book, otherwise it's awesome!

Looks great! I gave four stars only because the book at the end had a hard cover, the sowrd piece wasn't sticking. Luckily I had a few magnets and I had to put those inside and outside the book. The final picture is attached and you can't really tell that it's there. Would be great if they use stronger magnets, otherwise it looks so cool!!!
Looks great - Looks cheap & magnet works well with paperback books

These are really cool however the pieces are made up of "cheap" plastic. The magnets hold up well with thin paperback books. The magnet strength is not strong enough to hold up through a thicker book cover. My step-son is 13 and he loved the bookends when he saw them first!

I didn't look at the dimensions before buying...it is a lot smaller than I was expecting. The books used in the pictures are smaller than regular "book sized" books. Other than that, like other reviewers said, it is cheap plastic but looks ok from a distance. I think if I had seen this in person at a shop, I wouldn't have spent the money on these bookends.

samurai sword piercing books. I mean, That is what it is, and it is....Wonderful. These are magnetically hled. you use a light cover book on the ends, and put a base in them, than connect the sword piece. I bought two of them, and they are wonderful convo starters. They do not look cheasy when assembled.
