Great for iPhone, a headache for Android
by Scott Gardner (3 out of 5 stars)

while this hard works great with the Garmin native software available for iPhone, it is a real pain to use with Android.

To use this with Android, you will have to purchase Navigon navigation software, which is not nearly as powerful as Google Maps, and costs $29.95 USD.

Additionally, the Navigon software does not automatically recognize the Garmin HUD. Instead, you must open the Navigon settings each time you would like to use the Garmin HUD. It's necessary to reconnect the device for every single use. If you do not choose to connect the device, a very bright pairing symbol appears for quite some time, that is eventually replaced by four bright dashes. This is annoying even during the day, but especially at night because the automatic brightness does not dim either the pairing symbol or the dashes. The only solution seems to be to unplug the unit completely.

If this worked better with Android and did not require the purchase of additional software, I'd give it 5 stars because it really is a pleasure to use. Unfortunately, the inconvenience of reconnecting it every single time far outweighs its usefulness in the first place.

Great but needs more information
by Ryan Beaver (4 out of 5 stars)

This device gives quite a bit of information when it comes to distance, speed, lane assistance, turns and time arrival however one thing I wish it could do is show street names. I don't always have the Bluetooth audio going through my car speakers, so at times I get confused on which turn to go on if two of them are really close together. The only other thing is when you are not using it, it will constantly say "Pair" until you launch Garmin or Navigon. If you are not using it, it becomes annoying and you might as well as turn it off each time or unplug it. They should update it to turn off the screen in a few minutes of not in use.

Garmin HUD is good, but not great
by M. L. Chesner (4 out of 5 stars)

I bought the Garmin HUD to use mainly on long drives to Upstate New York. I tend to put my hand in a position that can block my speedometer when driving long distances. I use the Garmin HUD with the Navigon iPhone App. The Garmin HUD interacts well with the app and displays accurate information. I use the Shield reflector that comes with the HUD as I am too nervous so far to try to install the reflecting strip that comes with the unit. The information is clear to read most of the time on the shield. There are some times in certain type of sunlight that it can be more difficult to read, but it is not often. I have tried just reflecting it off of my windshield. The unit produces somewhat of a "double image" when using it this way. It is a little annoying, but still useable for me.

One thing that is not mentioned much is that there is a sticky bottom on the unit. It is not adhesive. It is more like the non-slip mats that they sell to put on your dashboard. So the unit can be installed and removed without leaving a residue. I saved the plastic that came covering the sticky part and just put it back on when I am not using the unit.

The unit must be plugged in to work as it does not have a built in battery. Also, when it is plugged in, it is always on. There is no on/off switch. The cable that plugs in to your car's cigarette lighter has a built in USB port. I plug my iPhone into this port and it charges it well.

Overall I would say that I like this unit, but it probably only makes sense to buy it if you are going to use it on long trips or so that you can see the instructions from your GPS more easily.

Pros:

Seamless interaction with the Navigon App

Reflective shield works well in most lighting situations

Accurate/timely display of information

USB port on power cable works with iPhones

Cons:

Hard to install reflective film on dashboard

No built in GPS. Must use with a smartphone app.

No built in battery. Must plug in to use.

Always draws power when plugged in. No on/off switch.

Works as advertised, as was stated in other reviews ...

Works as advertised, as was stated in other reviews it does take a little bit to get it setup...and you do have to pair almost every time you use it but the device does work well with the Android app. If you don't have a GPS or a vehicle capable of having one installed it is a decent alternative.

Great add on instead of looking at your phone screen.

We don't go anywhere without using this.

Only complaint is that the sticky underside is starting to lose its stickability. Worried it'll fly off the dashboard at some point and take out an eye.

Connects to Navigon on my iPhone and I like it a lot

I'm saddened if Garmin phases this out. Connects to Navigon on my iPhone and I like it a lot. I have Nav built into my car and I use this instead!

Great Idea
by Douglas E. Partl (4 out of 5 stars)

DIsplay on the windshield is a great idea, using your phone as GPS even better- beats having a phone AND a GPS. There could be more info displayed though- I bet thats in the mix already. The curve of the windshield can be challenging for display film and image angle. Overall, I like it a lot. Even purchased a second unit for my second car- my phone travels with me so why not have the cars ready?.

Works as advertised

Works as advertised. Read the other reviews carefully like I did and most any question you might have is answered. Yes, you have to buy software for your portable device to use this HUD but it works flawlessly for me. My only complaint is the lack of a power switch because my DC power in my truck does not go off when the key is removed so I have to unplug it when I need it all the way off.
