Flaking Teflon Coating and Foot Pads Coming Ungluedby PAF (1 out of 5 stars)
March 29, 2016
Purchased because of 4.4 out of 5 star reviews by over 200 people. After 4 months with only minor use I have a defrosting tray only 1 foot pad on the bottom and a big piece of the teflon like coating that just flaked off. I would like to note that I am not tough on my kitchen utensils and try to make them last as long as possible. The product does work, but it takes a long time to defrost items. It took over two hours to thaw a frozen rib eye, about the same time it takes if I just leave it in the sink.
The pads on the bottom are just glued on and have no structural attachment to the tray and that is understandable, but not acceptable. The teflon type coating flaking off is a true sign of a substandard product. Of course the product is no longer returnable, so into the recycling it goes, Thanks VonShef.
FYI, underneath the coating the tray is just a piece of aluminum.
Not dishwasher safe. Boo.

It does speed up the thawing process, although not as quickly as it claims to--tried it with shrimp and chicken. The product packaging and Amazon posting claim the tray is dishwasher safe, but that is not the case--I washed it by hand the first time and it was fine, after the second use I put it in the dishwasher and it came out with several chips in the black paint. I suppose I can try to chip it all off and still try to use it, but what a pain in the beep to do that. Intent was to try this out myself and if it was as described, to buy as gifts for friends who love to cook but are super busy. Definitely won't be doing that. Disappointed overall.
Pro/con

Pros: Material distributes cold well and groves help drain whatever thaws. Takes 3 hours to defrost a frozen solid chicken. Burger patties take 45min-1 hour.
Con: After a few months of use, the black material on the metal is peeling off with each use. Wouldn't buy again because of the con.
Apparently defective

The black finish is coming off. I have only had it a few months and have only used it a few time. The finish started coming off after the first use. It has only been washed by hand, no dishwasher.
Handy and Healthy Thawing

These trays work great for thawing relatively quickly without having the food start cooking as happens in a microwave. I have one and bought them for two friends for Christmas. Not our usual type of gifting, but I knew they would get good use from these.
It does defrost a little faster.

I defrosted chicken breasts side by side, one on the tray, one on a plate. I did see that the chicken defrosted faster on the tray when compared to the dish. It isn't as fast as doing it In the microwave of couse but, if you don't want the white edges caused by the microwave starting to cook the edges, this is a good and faster alternative verses leaving it out on a plate.
This is a poor imitation of the original products like the Thaws It

This is a poor imitation of the original products like the Thaws It. This has no substance or weight to it. Also, it looks like it is painted with black paint which is peeling off. I should have returned it but I waited to long to try it out and decide.
I forgot how great it is

I have had one before, and needed another. I forgot how great it is. It actually does what it says. Also doesn't dry out the meat, since it isn't going through the microwave defrost method. Is also quicker than leaving it in the fridge for the whole day.
While this is good for defrosting your items

While this is good for defrosting your items, there statement of defrosting in minutes is a bit over the top. Depending on the item, but most times (like chicken) it takes a couple of hours. But a little help is better than nothing.
Good product

The product works best with defrosting cutlets and flatter meats. Try to freeze your ground meats flat as a chunk will take longer. I also turn over half way through. The meat stays cold while defrosting. Although it says dishwasher safe, mine got destroyed in the dishwasher
