Pedal resistance not constant. Impossible to pedal at a constant rate.by C.M.Rogers (5 out of 5 stars)
December 14, 2015
The unit had a problem where the resistance is not constant. Every three times around, the pedal force increases dramatically, then let up again for three more turns. Made it impossible to pedal at a constant pace.
(EDIT: 5 stars now, turns out I had plugged too much into it. The device adjusts the resistance automatically for the power draw, and I was over-loading it. Works great now. The way I was using it was actually the problem. Great response from the company, sorted me out in no time.
They don't tell you it takes hours and hours of peddaling to charge a 12 volt car battery

I was miss led by your advertising that you could charge a 12 volt car battery or deep cycle battery. But didn't tell how long it would take, or the the low amperage output, which makes it useless if it takes so many hours of pedaling. This is why I bought it, so I've waste $200!!!!!!

I live off grid and the winter is not very kind on my solar panels when it comes to charging things, I bought this to charge my cell and some flashlight batteries. since winter is the time when people gain a little weight this is a good way to burn a few caloires (like an exersize bike) while charging some small stuff.
Very nice compact pedal electrical generator
by Ron (5 out of 5 stars)

Overall I really like this for a manually powered emergency/camping charger. It folds up into what is barely a shoe box size block, can be put together quickly and easily, has an imbedded all-in-one multi-plug socket (standard US, UK, and and looks like other countries electrical connectors I've never used), and generates a nice amount of electricity without much effort (far easier than hand cranks). I've used it for about a week or so now to charge up my phone and tablet and have had excellent results. I only tried charging my phone and tablet at the same time once with an extension cable and it seems to work nicely as well, however I didn't pedal for terribly long that time so it was a partial test only.
There are two items to note. One, it is a manual generator with no battery. So if you're not pedaling you won't be able to charge anything. Two, it is very light weight (nice) but because of that it is also very unstable. The manual suggests screwing/clamping it down to something. This is a good idea if possible, otherwise you need to sit with your legs directly over it so it doesn't slide away, which can make pedaling a little awkward. However both of these are noted by the products manufacturer and I pretty much knew/expected it so I didn't feel the need to knock of a star in the ratings since they weren't a surprise.
An advancement in Generator design
by Amazon Customer (4 out of 5 stars)

I would rate this product five stars because Ken Torino, the designer has shown an incredible
willingness to work with me, a very demanding customer. I went with four stars because there is
room for improvement. The product performs as advertised and generated enough power to keep your
cell phones and tablets charged. The design is innovative, and the portability excellent. My goal was to use it as an exercise bike
and the stress of the weight and force pedalling exerts caused the Powerbox to break. This is not the fault of the Powerbox per se, it does
the job. The housing is plastic and not intended to be stepped on, or abused like a bicycle. Let's face it bikes are made of steel.
The product is terrific for Apple Products and chargers. My Samsung Galaxy Note 3 and Samsung Note 10.1 with two amp chargers
taxed the Powebox to the limit, mainly because Samsung has maxed out fast charging and as long as I used the Powerbox as a hand
pedal unit it was reliable. Using the Powerbox in that fashion provides a great upper body workout. I have two Powerboxes and I am satisfied. My only complaint that may not be possible to correct is the unit is noisy and sounds like an electric drill. In a hurricane or blackout, who cares, right. If you use this every day for charging your phones in the house or an apartment expect some negative feedback from those not pedalling. It is annoying. Ken has indicated he is working on a more robust higher power design, and I expect that will be
another breakthrough in Generator design. If you ar an enthusiastic Prepper or just an interested engineering type who cares about power generation and emergency services, I wouldn't wait, I'd buy a Powerbox. If you have a problem K-Tor has the best customer service I have ever dealt with.
Great Widget... Would love to see more improvisations!

It is definitely a great device for someone really into alternate energies and such.
Does what it is supposed to do that is generate power.
Would have liked it evenmore than now, if it had come with a bracket/stand to which we can secure it. Pedalling it while sitting on chair as showed in demo is not possible right out-of-box.. Pedals could come with some straps to secure the foot on the pedal... etc.
Very practical

I like the engineering and the device appears tough. I like the bicycle peddles. It is much more operational over a longer period of time using both feet or both hands. Other devices use only one hand. I can't see how that is practical.
Great backup for emergencies!

You know how those crank chargers you buy usually never actually charge anything like they're supposed to? Well, this one does. I find that it charges my old iPhone 6 more smoothly than my new Samsung Galaxy 8, but it works well enough for both devices and any inconsistencies in pedaling resistance when charging the Samsung were smoothed out by plugging it into a surge protector (for some reason). Was able to charge both devices no problem at about the same speed you'd expect from a wall charger. The device is simple to put together and easy to use. I have mine mounted to a cheap 2' x 2' piece of plywood to keep it stable, and could probably pedal away for at least a half hour with my feet without breaking much of a sweat. A solar setup would be less work, of course, but I live in a part of the country that experiences power outages in winter due to ice storms and blizzards...when there's usually no sun available! So, yeah, this will be a fantastic emergency backup to have should we ever lose power again. The few negative reviews I saw seemed to be coming from people expecting it to do more than it was ever intended to do. FYI, I havent tried to charge a 12 volt battery with this yet, but I will update my review when I do. (Waiting for payday to buy that and an inverter. Lol.) P.S. The company owner responds to customer inquiries really quickly, which is awesome. It's a bit pricey, I think, but it's made in the U.S., the customer service is great, and it actually works. It's a long-term investment, and the peace of mind is worth the price IMO.
I bought this in hopes of having a good gadget for my science class

I bought this in hopes of having a good gadget for my science class. I have 10th graders with plenty of muscle and enthusiasm. The two supports are molded plastic, so immediately I knew I will be having to build some type of infrastructure to make sure it lasts. It will do better bolted to a base, perhaps a sheet of thick plywood, but the brackets are not parallel to the floor, they end up at a 45 degree angle. There is a lot of resistance even with no load on the system. They were not able to light an incandescent bulb. We could get an LED light to light a bit.
