It should work, even though I've never actually tested it in a hailstorm. I have, however put it on four times before a forecast involving hail. Here are five things I you should know about the Hail Protector:
1) You've GOT to read the instructions and test it before you need it. Of course, I received it the same day a hailstorm was forecast.
2) It works as a car cover: I put it on during a road trip; it kept the rain off the vehicle as well as a car cover.
3) Be wary of use during high winds: You do not want to use it if your vehicle is going to catch the wind head-on. I thought I had tucked it under the front and rear of my truck well enough; it caught head-on winds and blew up hard enough to go nearly vertical. One of the straps underneath the vehicle snapped.
4) The electrical connections aren't inspiring ... the box isn't waterproof. It's labeled to place it in the trunk, bed or whatever, but that's not an easy thing to do, depending on your configuration.
5) The customer service is superb. I had a couple of questions about the Hail Protector and they responded promptly.
You can put it on in your driveway and amaze your neighbors. One of my nearby neighbors watched it inflate and he thought it was crazy. Then a car pulled into the driveway next to his with dents in it. Yep. I've not yet seen anything on the market that potentially keeps the hail from banging your vehicle.
Dissappointed in bad information from seller and restocking. Becareful.

I contacted them before purchase to ask the following. I have a 4 Door - Crew Cab Ford 2017 F350 Dully with a Leer Cap ( Roof Height ) on an 8 foot bed. Will this system fit something this large including the Leer Cap. In a few days I did receive an email stating " Our SUV3 size is built for your truck. Cap and all." So I proceeded to order. The quality of the cover is good ( Made in China ). The rest of the parts do appear to be hand made in a garage, but they do work. The issue I had, is, this does not really fit as advertised. If I did not have a Dully, or i did not have the Cap, it could have been pulled completely down and cinched properly to hold in the wind. But as is, you cannot get it properly down to the dully wheels, and cinched tight, so as it inflates it pulls up on the body of the truck around the dully. I had 3 guys helping me in a zero wind environment, and read every instruction, and watched the youtube video prior to installation. No go... So I returned it. SURPRISE, even though they said it would fit and we followed all good purchasing standards of checking prior to purchase, you get hit with a restocking fee and you are lucky enough to pay shipping back. This is over $100.00 in cost for something we tried, followed instructions and then could not get to function. If you are not sure, do not buy it, you will get hit with a restocking and shipment fee.

Practice putting it on a few times to get use to it.

My neighbor had gotten one for his Chevy Pickup and it worked like a gem during our first storm. I had originally bought this cover for my new Focus ST but soon after I got it I bought my wife a new Frontier Pickup. My car normally stays outside and my wife's in the garage(hence the need for the cover) but her truck won't fit in the garage now so I get to put mine in there (Woohoo!) Obviously I have no need for a cover this small so I called Zanetta at Hail Protector to see if I could swap it out and she did it for one that fits our truck. I'm going to open it and put it on to get it all set for our next hail storm. I will update this review after the next storm but I'm sure it'll work just fine. My neighbor swears by it so I have no doubt that it'll work for me too. Thanks Zanetta for making this easy.
Overall, a good product. Installation & removal is tricky, though.

NOTE: Edited to a gentler tone and went up a star based on good responses from the company. My initial post was right after it happened, so I was quite irritated.
The good news is that it will do what it advertises--IF you get it properly installed.
After a couple of practice runs, I had to use it for a hailstorm tonight. I had been out and only had about 5 minutes to get it on before the hail would arrive. So I went out in a downpour and tried to put it on my truck. 10 minutes later as the hail starts coming down, I think I have it on.
I guess I didn't get it cinched down correctly because after it inflated (and initially protected the truck), the wind got under it and pulled it off the front end of the truck. So now my hood (which was replaced after major hailstorms last year) is ruined again.
I'm not sure how good of a deal it was considering my faulty installation still cost me some damage.
I do think they should investigate improving the entire cinch-down process. My hail protector took some damage (ripped out one of the cross-body straps & the tape measure broke since I must have pulled it out too far when trying too quickly to get everything done--I'll get a paracord monkey's paw to make this go easier in the future).
IMO, the control box--while intended to go inside a trunk or under the cover in the bed of a truck--should still be waterproofed. The reason being: you might be deploying it in a rainstorm & there might already be water in the bed of your truck. Water-tight boxes and connectors are not that hard to source. Much more expensive than simple barrel connectors, yes, but not so much that it couldn't be made to work.
There's lots of room for improvement. I hope they will improve it.
The SUV2 size is certainly not as easy to roll up as the car sized one in their demo video. Don't kid yourself. You won't be getting the genie back into the bottle. You will need quite a bit of storage space to keep this thing.
Disappointed overall, but encouraged that they want to make it work.

The cover came in two boxes. I viewed the setup videos and had the cover on installed for the first time in about an hour. I plugged it in and watched it fully inflate in 5 minutes or so. Everything worked perfectly. Satisfied, I opened the vent, deflated it and rolled it up into its bag. It also has a small soft-sided case for the accessories.
I would advise putting it on and taking it off a couple of times to get the hang of it for that inevitable hail storm. I'm ready for Spring in Texas.
BEST INVESTMENT EVER!

We used our cover for the first time & it worked perfectly. We practiced a couple of times as suggested after we got it all set up so when the real storm came, we were ready & it is so easy to activate. CUSTOMER SERVICE is awesome. We had a couple of "minor issues" & they are very responsive. We highly recommend the product and the company without any reservation.
Very satisfied.

Great product. It takes some assembly, but they have good instructions and an excellent YouTube video series. Once assembled, it is very quick to install on your car. It protects very well, and helps you sleep better when the weather turns nasty. Perfect for if you have kids with a car. Excellent customer service after the sale as well.

I compare products for a hobby and professionally. I'm an multiple engineer and know a lot about alot. (it had to be said) Keep reading.... I collect classic & super cars & classic trucks. I can not always have them in the garages. I was looking to purchase another great car cover, like the ones I have, AND HailProtector Shows up on my screen.
I purchased right away, (I could return if I didn't like it), got it in 3 days. Checked it over for any issues, in materials, sewing, wiring, fans used, air flow, ... Passed in every area! And with very high standards in manufacturing, And the thoughtfulness of keeping the cost down. It's a lower price then really good "just a car cover" I use to purchase.
My Review and comparison is to quality car covers and The Car Capsule (I own 3 of these)
HailProtector is a very high quality, car cover, very light in weight with an ability to be a mega protect for your car / truck / SUV by simple inflation (DC or AC). It really is simple... I bet you haven't realised you can take The Hail Protector with you wherever you park. Work, Ball games, concert... Bad weather can spring up quickly.
HailProtector has an inner material that touches my car, it's soft. The outside material is UV, rain... protection like any other high-quality car cover. 3 power sources can be used and with a remote control. DC power pack or your cars power and AC power. HailProtector uses lots of built in elastic ribs and dual under-car straps, to keep the cover tight to the car. So, wind does not blow it off. Getting the under-car straps, from one side to the other IS EASY! LOL and brilliant. HailProtector gives you a retractable tape measure to extend under the car to the other side! lock the tape measure, walk to the other side, attach the two under-car straps to the end of the tape measure with the rubber band holder, walk back to the other side and just retract the tape measure. Surprise, you now have the two under-car straps in your hands. Wow, you didn't have to get on the ground to reach for them. More about HailProtector below. But first...
"Car Capsule" is best for admiring your beauty in Car Capsule's inflated, clear vinyl protection chamber and only in your garage. It's very well built, great electronics... last for years. (I have had mine for 15+ years) Down Side: you must drag the clear plastic cover over the car, bend down to zip it closed at ground level, all the way around 3 sides of your car. Car Capsule also make an outside model that is the same style of constant inflation and its not clear . Most of the same positive and negative of use. UV rated to protect your beauty from sun Damage. Great inflated protection. I would not want the plastic cover to touch my paint for very long in the hot sun deflated. And what if you have a power outage due to a bad storm?
HailProtector: The Engineer who developed the HailProtector is a genius in this market. His "YouTube" videos of how to place the few parts to the HailProtector are a tad bit slow, but in easy to understand instructions. Product evaluation: correct materials both, inside touching your car, and on the outside protection your car from sun damage. I don't have any problem with this material touching my paint on a hot day when not inflated. Double stitching, fan placement and type, power cord placement that protection for your car and remote-controlled power box and all is protected from driving rain. Straps under the car are high quality. This is brilliant also, HailProtector added a simple retracting tape measure to bring the under-car straps to you without getting on the ground or reaching under your car to grab them. (extend the tape measure under your car. Lock it, walk around to the other side, attach the 2 strap ends to the tape measures, rubber band holder, walk back to the other side, retract the tape measure, and there are you straps)
3 DC power options, the battery pack that holds 8 AA, or your car battery direct connect or the cigarette lighter plug.(it does not use a lot of power, so your safe for a long inflation protection time. Home, Office...A/c electricity. I added a smart wi-fi plug to my garage power outlet, it controls my extension cords that are plugged into the HailProtector. I can inflate from anywhere! My friend is using it in her garage. She inflates it via Wi-Fi, just before his kids get home. No more kid scratches, dents, bike leaning on the car...
Downside: It has an inner and outer material, are connected at the edge. If not removed as instructed, it becomes a really big cover. Like a slightly inflated personal hot air balloon. It's easy to get back in control , just slid it off... or Watch the YouTube video on removing the cover. It's easy once you know how.

I messaged the owner of Hail Protector, he was extremely informative and very responsive to my questions. The item came within a few days. I'm not sure what some of those comments out there mentioning difficulties of set up are all about. I literally put it together in about 10 minutes without even looking at the instructions. I kept thinking to myself... "there's got to be more to this setup, because many guys said they had issues ". Nope. I inflated it and my baby is safe and sound in minutes. Way to go you guys! Many more orders to come.
