When it works it's good but that's only once in a blue moon.
by Whitney A. (2 out of 5 stars)

Pros. It works as advertised for iOS 5 and even iOS SE.

Cons. Doesn't work consistently. Despite being plugged into the iPhone directly, controller loses sync regularly and the inputs for the directions get stuck mid game so you're forced to exit the game and remove the device to restart the controller sync. You then have to find a small needle to restart the device in a specific port in the back. You can't use this w/o removing the phone from it's outerbox with got annoying for me considering everything else I had to do to get it to work consistently. It also breaks fairly frequently if you're not careful removing the phone from the controller port.

The most annoying thing is it when it works it's actually pretty spot on and some games you can't go back to touch screen but it's really inconsistent and a hassle to get the most out of it.

Its the cheapest alternative for those with an iPhone 5 or SE era phone so that makes it really awesome but if you can spend the extra cash, aim higher.

I bought this for $6 last month, it's a steal for that price, wouldn't pay the $40 its listed at now. The most I'd pay is $15-$20. The only problem I have is that it has to be charged a certain percentage before it can be used. It plugs into the lightning port, it should work regardless if the backup battery inside it is charged. And on top of that after you charge it full, if you don't use it a few days off the charger it's basically dead and needs charged again. So it does what it says, I just thought it wouldn't have to be charged to use it. I wish there was a way to put your phone in vertically for games that aren't setup horizontal (Downwell specifically) as I can't stand on-screen controls in any game, especially one that requires precision.

BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK. I should have paid attention to the reviews. I bought this as a birthday gift for my son. I would like to give a review of this item, however it arrived broken we are unable to use it or return it for a refund or exchange it for a working device.

The best controller and value for iphone 5, 5S and SE
by John Paul (5 out of 5 stars)

I have used this device with all three and it works perfectly. For a price between $25-30 it's a great deal. For the price of $8-15, it's an absolute steal. Once you buy this and use it for games such as Oceanhorn and Adventures of Mana, you'll never go back. Five Stars.

Excellent design... but ultimately unusable.

(For the purposes of this review, not only will be assessing this controller for what it is by itself, but I'll be comparing it to another popular iPhone controller: the Logitech Powershell.)

For starters, this controller definitely looks and plays better than the Powershell. The buttons on my product are responsive and work excellently (whereas the Powershell had the annoying issue of buttons getting stuck, to the point where I would regularly need to pry them out with a knife), the D-pad is easy-to-use and doesn't require excess pressure (Logitech had an interesting idea with the Powershell's analog D-pad, but it simply puts too much strain on the user's thumb), and the analog sticks work as expected. The MOGA uses a built-in headphone jack to make playing with headphones easy, whereas the Powershell requires a headphone jack extender, making headphone compatibility clunky as it requires an additional accessory. Overall, this controller is easily superior in design to the Powershell.

Unfortunately, the product I received has a particular flaw that drastically affects its rating: charging the device is nearly impossible. The instructions state that charging the controller is supposed to be as simple as plugging it into any Micro-USB cord (a cord is also included with the controller so that buying a separate cord isn't required), plug the cord into an outlet or power source, and the device will begin to recharge. However, after several days of trying multiple cords, fiddling with the positioning of the port in the controller's socket, and using every single outlet available to me, I only ever got the controller to charge one time. I don't know if this is an issue specific to my device, but the impression has already been made. I haven't used this product since March because of this one glaring flaw. I really wanted to give this controller a higher rating, because it's designed SO much better than the Logitech Powershell. But I simply can't give a good rating to a product that doesn't work.

The best iphone 5 controller
by Jonathan Le (5 out of 5 stars)

Works great, compatible with a ton of games, the extended layout is nice if you're used to the xbox controller. Very portable, as it was designed. Battery lasts surprisingly long (if you don't use the mBoost). All of the buttons are nice and tactile, the d-pad and the triggers are a little squishy but functional. Analog sticks work excellently.

Feels very light and plastic. It does not feel very durable, but in actuality it isn't bad. I dropped it a few times and it survived just fine. When the phone is actually in the controller the weight is much better. The ergonomics could be better, holding it and playing for more than one or two hours starts to get uncomfortable, obviously ergonomics sacrificed for portability but with ios games you're usually not playing for that much longer anyway.

As of the time posting this, there are hundreds of compatible games. If you still have an iPhone 5, this controller is probably the best controller for gaming.

Dead on Arrival and MOGA Customer Service doesn't exist
by HalcyonDaze (1 out of 5 stars)

DOA. It would charge but there was no way to get the phone to recognize the connection or receive any charging, which also means there is no way to update the firmware since the MOGA app could not see the device. I knew it was a gamble when I bought it given all the terrible reviews but in hindsight I should have just gone with the Logitech. There is a reason why these things used to cost $99 but are now less than $10...

MOGA Customer service literally does not exist. The manual lists a phone number to call, with weekday only hours, but no matter when you call all you get is a recording directing you to a website. That website no longer supports this device and in turn forwards you to a different website, which has a form to submit for help, which is never returned. So if the reset button doesn't solve your problem it's best to just accept that you are on your own. Thank heavens for the Amazon Customer Service and easy Return policy.

Great product for the price
by Andrea J Horner (5 out of 5 stars)

this is a great option if you want to turn your iphone 5, 5s, se, or even ipod into a mobile mini console like the PSP. it is a perfect size for my hands, i am 13 years old but it could still be a great size for older or younger people.

Pros:

buttons are all great and clickable

joysticks are completely different from all others i have ever seen but i love them, they are compact and just slide around

very small, can fit in the pocket but might look a little wierd in your pocket

alot of big name games work with this, including, asphalt 8, modern combat 5, and more

works with emulators

great price

Cons:

the shiny black plastic does get scratched up pretty easily but it does not bother me

only works for the phones i listed before, no iphone 6`s or 7`s

some games that you would expect to work dont

overall i think this is a great product and the pros definitely outrule the cons. It would be a great gift for a kid who loves playing games on the go.

it makes the all around gaming experience a lot better

A must for iOS Tomb Raider.
by M (4 out of 5 stars)
December 14, 2014

I'm not much of a gamer and this is the first gaming device I've purchased since I was probably 15. All I wanted it for was to play Tomb Raider on iOS for iPhone 5 (which, btw, how awesome is it to be able to play TR on your phone??). Worked exactly as Youtube and Amazon reviews describe. Plug and play. Period.

I preferred Playstation when I was young and I'm used to using that brand's controller. So, using the Ace Power took me a bit of time to adapt to, but I'll say it's a negligible difference. Though, I'm sure if I were a marathon gamer this device might start to feel uncomfortable. There's something about it being relatively flat and on the same horizontal position as the screen that seems to put stress on some of the muscles in the forearm.

As others have described, the controller does feel a bit brittle, "plasticy," and not as solid as you'd hope. But if you use common sense it should be fine.

DOA? Incomplete instructions? I don't know.
by cyranodabum (1 out of 5 stars)

Product didn't work. I was never able to connect this to my phone. I followed the skimpy instructions, including fully charging the MOGA and then trying to pair via bluetooth, but my iPhone never saw the device. I suppose it's possible that I missed a step or something, and the product wasn't actually DOA. If that's the case, then maybe the fault lies with the poor instructions. I even tried looking on MOGA's website, on the forums, etc., but no luck. Glad for Amazon's return policy.
