A Great Idea That Is Flawed in Its Execution.by J. Kessler (3 out of 5 stars)

I have had a Fuelband for two years now. I wear it everyday except for when I am sleeping or in the shower. Here are my (mixed) feelings on this product:
The Fuelband succeeds in its primary purpose: to get you moving by providing you with a goal to chase through daily physical activity. Fuel points are essentially just a measure of how much you move. If you work in an office environment, and want to make sure you are getting a minimal level of activity on a daily basis, the fuel points are a useful metric to know how much work you need to put in before you retire for the evening. It encourages you to take the stairs instead of an elevator, to park father away from your destination, to get out of your seat and move periodically throughout the day. The app, which you download on your smartphone, gives you positive reinforcement by telling you if you've met or exceeded your goals, whether you are on a "streak," and other little animations that celebrate your success. An easy way to feel better about getting and staying in shape.
All of that said, the durability of the product is an issue. Both my wife and I have had to send our Fuelbands back to Nike to be replaced within a year of purchase. My wife's Fuelband button stopped working entirely. The one I am wearing at the moment (which was one of the replacement Fuelbands) is already starting to show wear on the rubbery-lining on the inside of the band. Granted, this is a product you wear everyday during waking hours--so you have to expect some wear and tear--but having to replace or repurchase one of these every year is a burden for how expensive these things are.
Another practical consideration is how the Fuelband records different types of activity. For example, if you walk or run for exercise, the Fuelband has no issue recording your activity. If you bike, or lift weights, the Fuelband does a poor job of measuring your relative physical exertion. Essentially, if your physical activity doesn't include swinging your arms, your fuel points won't be representative of your daily efforts.
If you are trying to get in shape, or just looking for some motivation to stay in shape, the Fuelband is a useful tool. It's just not a durable one.
Stuck with a defective FuelBand. Buyer beware!

I bought this to replace my first FuelBand, which I've worn since December 2012. The old one was no longer holding a charge well so I bought this new one to replace it when it stopped working. Two months later the old one bit the dust, but when I opened up the replacement FuelBand I discovered that it did not work. It charged fine, installed a firmware update, and responded to changes in the display configuration, but the band does not detect any activity. No matter what I do when wearing it, the count of FuelPoints, calories and steps stays at zero. Apparently the accelerometer is defective. I've done the factory reset several times with no change.
Because I did not open the box and discover the problem until more than 30 days after I bought it, I am stuck with the defective FuelBand. It does keep time but I already have a watch.
The takeaway here is always to open and try out a product you buy on Amazon as soon as you get it, because there is no recourse if you find you have a defective item after 30 days.
JUST DON'T DO IT
by Frederic Gooris (1 out of 5 stars)

As so many others, I loved the concept and wanted to try it. After about 30 days, my FuelBand started a life of its own: deducting nike fuel out of the blue, displaying over 2000 nike fuel at 00:01, significant discrepancies in readings between app, band and website etc... In a nutshell, it was a mess, and I don't seem to be the only one.
The result of weeks of troubleshooting with the Nike+ support was that none of the problems got solved, with the bonus of a screwed up Nike+ account that does not allow me anymore to save any changes without going through support. We did agree on one thing: the band was defective and was in need of a replacement.
I bought the band here on Amazon, so I checked the warranty before buying on the Nike page titled "Nike+ FuelBand warranty and service" [...]. To my really bad surprise, it turned out that there is no warranty outside the US, UK or Canada (so called certified countries). However no territorial limitation is mentioned on their warranty page, nor is there a disclaimer that the warranty information is incomplete, nor is there a reference to the fine print. The mind blowing part is that Nike support admits the warranty page where I got my information is incomplete and misleading (their exact words!), yet stubbornly refuse to offer a solution. Really nice business ethics Nike! The only message I get from Nike is that I shouldn't have bought it, in other words JUST DON'T DO IT!
P.s.: If you live outside the US, GB or Canada, think twice and have a look here first: [...]
UPDATE 30/01/2014
as a matter of principle, I kept on bothering Nike+ support, got through a couple of supervisors until the last one stopped replying to my mails. Picked up the phone again, and came across a supervisor who took the case to heart. He acknowledged that I had a point and passed it on to the headquarters. Today they offered me a refund on the credit card, which was an agreeable solution to both. Case closed. The Nike page titled "Nike+ FuelBand warranty and service" [...] is still not updated up to today.

love it.it's been the most helpful thing fitness item i have brought in last 2 years in the battle of losing weight.
Edit(October,29,2013):Almost 2 months ago my Nike Fuel band just stopped holding charged. As usual I went plug my band in computer it wouldn't hold.I figured it was dead and needed a day to rest&hold charge I came back next day still wouldn't hold juice.I left it plugged for like a couple of days straight. Then I tried to charge it on my laptop no luck and I even borrowed another cord from friend who also has nike fuel band also.It hasn't even been a full year yet before enduring major issues.Brought the band Feb,4,2013.My band is pretty much useless now.I did email seller from who I brought the band from so maybe they'll have suggestion or idea on what to do.
I love my Nike Fuel!

Its rugged, it lights up, reminds me of how little I have been exercising. This is my second Fuel Band they changed the clasp materials so it isn't as smooth taking it on and off as the first one I got, but the battery charge lasts much longer which is great!
They had a great online experience but then they changed it....I don't know maybe people were annoyed. I think Nike is a company run by athletes that they don't get how those of us struggle with exercising need more motivation. Its probably hard to cater to the uber athletes and those of us find exercising 3 days in a row challenging but I look forward to see what they come up with next! Over all I love this product because it is always a reminder to get back on track.
The band is useful as a general activity tracker and motivator
by OB3 (1 out of 5 stars)

Update: Although listed as a new product, mine was not. After dealing with Nike customer service they informed me that what I had purchased was actually a used product and as such the original warranty was already well expired. Would expect better from Amazon than to try to pass of used good as new. This thing has been a disaster, buy direct from Nike/Apple or buy a different (better) option.
The band is useful as a general activity tracker and motivator. The quality is awful and the features are limited. If it were 25 dollars it would be a great purchase but the price and what it actually does do not mesh. As for the quality, I used it for 11 days and it is already broken. It will not hold a charge and no longer functions even a little. There are better options on the market and a lot of them have more features and a better price.
The idea's sound - how do they get it off the ground?

In many ways this is a great idea, with some clever implementation to make sure that it measures what it should - in fact, it seems to be very accurate.
Unfortunately the linking software has proven very unreliable - it may or may not update, and the phrase 'unexpected response form NIke' when plugging the band into the USB port of a computer doesn't really reward my $184 investment to my satisfaction.
It appears that this might be a work in motion and they may be updating the software 'on the fly'. For example, my band initially measured 'miles' walked', but this changed recently to measuring 'active hours' instead - great if you like comparing apples to bananas.
If they do get the software right, this might be a good product at some point in the future

Needs better directions

This product works good however the setup was a nightmare due to lack of directions. When I opened the box it basically said plug it into your computer and it should work just fine... It took me having to go through he FAQ's and about 30 min just to get it up and running. Then when I go to sync it to my phone and again no directions on how to do this. It is a good product but could use much better directions so that the startup and setup of it doesn't have you ready to throw it out the window before you use it.

I purchased 3 of these at once because of the great price.
I wore one for 1.5 years, then it broke this morning (button stuck). OK, so I opened the box for the next new one. Sadly it turns on but will not charge. I reset it twice, used another charging cord, still not charging.
I am obviously outside the window to refund, but must say I am disappointed with the 2nd Fuel Band.
