Great Backpack, Great Customer Service, Poor Qualityby Jesse (2 out of 5 stars)

I want this to be clear: I really like this backpack. I love the size, and the Grid-it(or whatever the front compartment is called) system is great. It is the PERFECT backpack if you want to carry around a MacBook Pro, an iPad, a notebook, and all the necessities (chargers, pens, pencils, cables, small tools).
Here is the problem. The straps are terrible quality. I'm a student and I got my first Cocoon backpack right before the start of the fall semester. Within two months the right strap had almost completely detached from the bag. I sent customer support an email telling them about my issue and that I really didn't have time to send the backpack in and wait for 3 weeks for a replacement. They promptly replied and shipped me a new one. And the new one lasted longer... maybe 3 months? At that point, the same strap had started to split in half toward the middle where the cocoon logo is. Also, the zippers were mostly worn out by that point.
I used mine everyday, and always had my MacBook and iPad in it. If that means I used it too much, so be it. But I will not be purchasing anymore Cocoon products due to the fact that they cannot hold up to my use. If you need one to use a couple times a week, this might be the bag for you--there is a lot to love about it--It just isn't built for more than a handful of months of everyday use.
Poor Quality. Not built to last.

I bought this product with high hopes. I work in IT and have to a good bit of organized equipment. I loved it's design and the potential that it had for being neat and organized. I loved having a streamlined bag that was lightweight most of all. However, the bag has completely fell apart at the seams, especially the right shoulder strap. The part where the Cocoon logo goes completely ruins the integrity of the right strap. The entire strap has completely unraveled. I bought it in May, and Amazon would not let me return in after July (very short return policy). It fell to pieces in August. It didn't last 3 months. I am very careful and protective of all my equipment, ask my wife. She might say I'm too careful, so the fact this fell apart points to complete defect in the equipment. I would really hope that the builders read this review and fix that right strap - I would even like to think that they'd try to reach out to me after having such a short time with it.
DO NOT BUY!!!!!

So I read the review and I saw some people say that this product was poor quality and their bad was starting to fall apart.. I decided to still order and see for myself... first couple months the bag was perfect, the way you can organize your wires and portable chargers and anything is is what really made me buy this bag. That being said the other reviews were right. 2 months after my purchase the loop on my bad started to come off. Now it's to the point that I can't hang my bag on a hook without worrying it's going to fall. I took a picture so you could see for yourself.. my other bags never fell apart after years of the same wear or hanging from hooks.. don't buy this bag and save yourself the money. Or maybe this is a fake and the bags from cacoon website have better quality either way I would not buy from this buyer.. if I could I would give 0 stars but 1 is the minimum...
Bad quality construction, good idea.

I bought this bag three times. Not because I don't like it... Once from the Apple Store, again from the Apple Store and finally from Amazon.
It's badly made, zippers stop working, things fall off of it, wears and tears easily with the weight of a laptop, an iPad and a few accessories.
I thought it was me, so I handled the second bag gently. No matter. It's bad quality construction.
Believe me, I tried three times.
On a positive note, it's a great idea for a bag with the rubber band organization pad. I really did want to love this bag, but it punished me three times.
I only wish I didn't show off the organization pad to my friends and caused them to buy this disaster of a product.
Stay away.
Great design, poor quality

I REALLY like this bag. And I am REALLY disappointed that it is so poorly manufactured. This is my second one of this exact bag. With the first one, the zipper broke within a 6-7 months of purchasing and using it. I contacted Cocoon, sent them pictures of the broken zipper and loose threads around the zipper and they promptly sent me a new one. GREAT I thought. Customer service is excellent !!!.
Sadly, within 6 months of using the new bag, I noticed that the threads holding the shoulder strap to the bag at the bottom were broken and the strap was starting to fray. As you can see in the attached image, it's barely holding on and the foam inside is popping out.
The design of this bag is perfect for an everyday, simple and minimalist MacBook Pro and accessories backpack. But the quality would have to be stepped considerably to make this something usable for more than 6 months before having to throw it away. I feel that Cocoon knows this and still keeps selling this product with sub-standard workmanship. I feel ripped off and would rather get my money back, or better still, a better quality backpack!
The Grid-It technology is awesome. Unfortunately

This backpack is the COOLEST idea ever. The Grid-It technology is awesome. Unfortunately, this backpack didn't even make it a month. The construction is brutal. Zippers popped off, even the Cocoon logo on the front didn't make it. It's too bad this isn't made better. The idea of it is just so cool. I was blinded by it, and ignored the reviews. DON'T IGNORE THE REVIEWS!!
My favorite everyday carry bag.

I've been using this backpack daily for a year now and it's by far the best laptop bag I've ever owned. Slim enough to be carried on a plane as an under the seat bag, but big enough to hold a laptop, IPad, chargers and cables and plenty more. The GridIt pocket is really what sets this apart from the competition: you can store cables and gadgets and small items efficiently and have them within easy reach instead of cluttering the bottom of the bag or pocket. I've read complaints about durability, but mine looks as good as the day I bought it. The only caveat is that it's slim, as the name implies: it's great for carrying flat items and documents, but you won't be able to stick a water bottle or a bulkier item easily in there. But if you are looking for a practical sleeve-like bag, you can't beat this one, especially at this price.
I really enjoy this backpack

I really enjoy this backpack, and am giving it five stars, though I'd give it 4.5 if I could for only two complaints: it is not waterproof, and there is no chest strap. It doesn't completely soak up water, but if you get caught in the rain walking with it like I did, you have to be concerned about the front pocket getting wet.
The backpack is very slim, and unlike other backpacks it doesn't let everything sag to the bottom and push outward. This, as well as the heavily padded straps and back, makes it much more comfortable to carry with both straps on my arms. It would be nice if it had a chest strap, as all backpacks without end up pulling against my shoulders.
The grid holds everything in place firmly, the plush padding for the laptop and tablet pockets feels very nice, and there is just enough room to hold those devices, some notebooks, and even a light hoodie.
it looks like the strap will break off any day now

As an IT professional, I used to carry the Cocoon Grid-IT products in my backpack to hold all my gear. When I saw they had their own backpack with the Grid-IT built-in I was thrilled. I guess their innovation and build quality does not translate to the backpacks. After about a month of light use, the top of the should strap began to tear away from the stitching. The stitching right above the logo on the strap also began to fray and tear away. Based on the amount of stitching that's come unraveled, it looks like the strap will break off any day now. I have since retired the bag and replaced it with one from InCase which has a much better build quality. Very disappointed.
Works perfectly as intended and advertised

I bring this backpack to work with me every day and I've never seen a single rip or tear. It's still in perfect shape and it works as intended.
I've had this product for over a month now and I haven't had any issues with it. I use it to carry my Macbook Pro, charger, and iPad. And then I store a bunch of little gadgets and cables in the Grid-It pocket. It's great for all that! I think the problem is people are expecting this bag to carry more than it's intended to. It's a SLIM backpack, it's not meant to carry heavy or big objects like textbooks or big gaming laptops. Just keep that in mind if you're thinking about buying it. It's perfect for a skinny, light laptop and some little things.. but it's not gonna work for anything heavy or bulky.
