Not an activity tracker, as much as a workout tracker. Works for me!
by Prime Suspect (4 out of 5 stars)

After trying out the basic Fitbit and the Misfit Shine, I became intrigued by the Moov. Although it's billed as an activity tracker, it's different than either the Fitbit or Shine in important ways. Most importantly, if you're looking for a device to count your steps as you go through your day, the Moov is probably not your best choice. The device is more accurately described as a workout tracker. I won't reiterate the details of the description of the device's functions, as they're easily found on Amazon and the Moov website. What I would like to report is that using this device has facilitated improving my fitness more than any other device. I find the coaching aspect of the Moov system to be very helpful. Perhaps it's an indication of my lack of self-discipline, but I find that having Siri guide me through a workout helps me get the workout done. I find that having her tell me whether my cadence, pace, etc. is on the "glide path" to reach my goal helps immensely. I have yet to try the device when cycling or swimming, but I intend to do so soon.

If I could suggest an improvement to the makers of Moov, it would be to beef up the supporting apps to allow users to program workouts more individually. As it works now, users must manually change the levels during the workout. I'd like to be able to set up a workout at the outset, so, for example, I could walk at level 3 for two intervals, then move up to level 5 for three intervals, then up to level 6 or 7 and then back down to end my walk at a slower pace. It's no big deal to do this manually, but it is a bit distracting and should be easy to implement as a function of the app. Given the nature of the device and the extant features of the app, I wouldn't be surprised if this individualization feature doesn't appear sometime in the near future.

Almost great ...
by D (3 out of 5 stars)

I am an avid runner and that's the primary reason I got the Moov for ... and it's almost funny how Moov can deliver SO WELL on certain things, but then fail on other things which you'd think have been ironed out by now.

So first, the PRO'S - Moov as a 'running coach' works EXTREMELY WELL when it works (more on that later). I have been trying "free run", "efficient runner", "push your limit" and other running programs on the My Moov app and they all deliver. It's amazing how Moov can tell so much about my form from just a single Moov sensor around my ankle. Within weeks i've managed to increase my cadence, run faster, run farther, more efficiently, run with a better form and reduce the impact on my knee just from wearing Moov when I do my regular runs. In fact, even when I run without Moov, subconsciously I keep thinking of the Moov running tips and reminders - it's that good!

Now on to the CONS - First, the most frustrating part is, Moov continues to disconnect during runs. I don't know if this is an Android specific problem or if it affects iPhone too, but I use Android HTC One M8 phone, and I never had any BT issues before Moov. When using Moov during my runs, it would continue to disconnect with BT, and on average during a say, 30 min run, it would disconnect 4-5 times. There's nothing more annoying when you are running and you are trying to pay attention to your form and it tells you "Moov is disconnected, press Moov to re-connect". The thing is on my ankle, so I gotta stop running, press the button, keep running again only to hear it still isn't connected and I gotta stop and press the darn button again. This happens when I'm using my BT headset, or even when I'm on a wired headset. This is really, really frustrating,

On top of Moov run, I have also tried the Moov 7+ min toner for some cardio / strength training exercise, and that is even MORE frustrating. In between exercises the app would actually freeze. So I may be holding a position to start some pushup's, and waiting for Moov to tell me to start and it freezes. This keeps happening after SW upgrade too. Also, no matter what I do, it tells me I fail at Plank when I am already holding my body completely still ... unless I am to believe I can't even do plank for 5 sec's now I don't see why it would fail me.

All in all, despite its flaws, I see Moov as a worthwhile purchase because it is a great coach for running dynamics. I just wish Moov can fix its problems in its app and BT connectivity.

Useful tool for athletes

I'm going off to basic combat training and I used this device to get myself physically fit to meet the requirements and challenges ahead of my at BCT.

I started out as a beginning runner with no experience. My pace was around 14 min/mile and I could NOT run for a mile without taking a break. I could run a quarter of a mile without stopping to walk. Now I can do two miles no problem and my pace is around 9:50 min/mile. 9:50 isn't that impressive or exciting but for me the transformation is huge. I never thought I'd be able to get my pace under 12 min, let alone under 10. Not only that but I've managed to make this change in the matter of 2-3 months. Maybe not even that long. Before I got Moov I had been "running" for 6 months and making zero progress and experiencing lots of injuries and issues. I can't afford a personal trainer but I could afford the one time purchase of this device.

The coaching on this app has been super helpful in getting me to a proper running form and into some really good habits. It measures how hard you are stepping and the degrees of your movement. It can be a bit repetitive because it's basically a computer but it does an excellent job of preparing you for running and coaching you to run properly. I'm not an expert on running but considering my improvement and my lack of injury I'm happy with the coaching.

As for the device itself, it's usually dusty and sweaty after a long run. I love that I can just wash it off in a sink and not worry about water damage. The device is meant to be used for laps in a pool. It's also not too flashy or distracting. When I wear it, no one notices it and I like that. I'm not trying to draw attention to these things when I work out or be distracted by them. I also like the actual applications that correspond with the device. My husband loves the 7 minute workout app. I'm hoping they follow up and develop one for tennis.

Excellent for what it does.

I've been using my Moov for more than a year now. I also have a Fitbit Charge HR, and a couple of smartwatches, so I think I can offer good perspective on this device.

The Moov is a different kind of tracker. By design, it does things that other trackers don't - but that design also means that there are things that other trackers do that it doesn't. As just a basic fitness tracker, I would give it 3 stars or less - to me, it earns a perfect rating when you need to track things that other trackers don't.

The Moov tracker comes with tracking software that gives the user the ability to monitor and get feedback about multiple sports. The software only works with the Moov, and as far as I know, the moov does pretty much nothing without the software.

The tracker itself is disc-shaped, and that disc snaps into a band. There is a short band (generally for wrists) and a long band (generally for your ankle). Depending on the sport, you'll use the appropriate band (cycling uses the ankle band, because it gives you a cadence feature).

To get the most out of the moov, you'll want have the moov paired with your phone, and then wear headphones (a bluetooth headset makes this much easier). You'll need to keep the phone with you (I use an armband phone holder). Setup like this, you'll get suggested workouts (IE, how far to run), and feedback on your technique. This is where this product really shines. The feedback is excellent, and although I've only started to run (I've been hiking and cycling mostly), I feel like it's already making running easier, and anything that makes running easier deserves at the minimum, a 4 star review. Cycling is another area where this tracker really excels. When you cycle, you strap it to your ankle, and it provides cadence tracking (as well as speed, distance, time, incline, elevation etc.). If setup with your phone present and headphones, it gives instantaneous feedback about your cycling technique. Getting cadence measured on a bicycle is no small feat, and seriously, this makes it pretty simple). Apparently, it also provides feedback for boxing if you wear two bands, but I don't box, but I imagine that if you did, this would pretty much kick ass. Moov also seems to do a great job updating their software, which means that good features have the potential to become great features. About the only thing I've been disappointed with is my commute home includes a 7.5% grade hill, and my bike does not have that low of gearing so I have to mash the pedals. Its a little irritating to hear the voice repeatedly suggest that I downshift, when I infact do not have any more lower gears. I think if you have a fixie, you'd be plain out of luck if you hit a hill you can't spin up... but it's a small irritation with an otherwise excellent product. That, and it would be nice to be able to lock the screen while the program is running, as my sweat sometimes drips on my touchscreen. Other than that I'm really pretty happy with it. It also does just simple pedometer stuff just fine - keep in mind though, no display. The trend in trackers now is to add display (basically making them a smartwatch). If you need to know how far you've traveled, you'll need a way to look at your phone while you're exercising.

I really like the product
by Mom mojo (4 out of 5 stars)

I really like the product. I loved the app and the way it coaches. My complaint is with the one I got. I don't think they normally stop working after a couple uses.

Right out of the box it wasn't holding a full charge but I liked how it worked so I just made do. I cancelled my return request and used it maybe 5 more times just enough time to really start enjoying it.
It now turns green when plugged in but doesn't react to being pressed down to connect at all. After a few minutes charging the green light blinks rapidly but that's it.

I still would like a working one but it's been awhile since I got it and like I said I got it for a deal ($20) I don't want to spend more money on hoping the next one works.

I will get a new one for sure from moov

Happy Camper.

A Real fitness tool. So far so good. Couldn't wait to try in the pool. Unbelievable, MOOV keep my laps better than me. Differentiated Strokes, numerate cadences, and gave me advice on how to kick efficiently. WOW! Con; MOOV asked for "LAP' distance. I understood laps to be up and back. But once I finish I noticed I'd swam twice as far. Easy fix, Laps = on lenth of the pool.Next up the outdoor cycling. WOW, I not use to a couch in my ear, "This cadence is too slow...., try a lower gear..... less pressure on your knees.". Did I say WOW already! All the statistical data MOOV provided was over whelming. Con; I don't think other GPS apps work simultaneously with MOOV. Comfort fit, ease fo use.Battery life differ between activities. Im looking for an external phone battery. Item: Exactly as described, arrive on time. Would recommend. Happy camper. So far. Hope this helps.

Makes working out easy

I put together this video review thought it might be useful to share here. I've really loved using Moov over the last few months and have seen a lot of improvement in speed, distance, and experiencing pain after running. I made this video to help people understand what makes Moov different and how it's worked for me.

I mainly use the running app and 7 Minute+ app, but I have used all of them and give a little bit about each app here. I hope this helps!

A great fitness coach on your wrist
by Dan (5 out of 5 stars)
May 25, 2015

I really like the Moov tracker. I also have a Fitbit Charge and a Jawbone Up24 and use them completely differently. I'll wear the Jawbone (prefer its fit to the Fitbit) all day, every day, but I'll just wear the Moov for its coaching feature when I work out. The coaching is remarkable - it very accurately tracks your pace, cadence, angle of impact (for running) and gives you helpful pointers on how to improve your form, while also doing a much better job of keeping you on schedule than other fitness trainers or apps that only give you pace or overall time/distance information. As the software continues to develop, I can see the Moov supplanting all my other trackers. A great value now, and one I expect to only improve with more apps and improvements to the existing ones.

Great product for the price ($27
by MKM (4 out of 5 stars)

Great product for the price ($27.99 when I purchased). The free app has a lot of different modes to try.

Running to improve pace and distance - It really tells you ways to run better (decrease your impact by doing this, lengthen your stride) which is great! I felt like I really notice a difference after only a few tries. It was a bit much a beginner.

Run My Own Way - I was able to use this with my C25K app (Couch to 5K Free) which I felt was a little better for my beginner status.

Get Toned In Under 10min - Love This!! It gives you a demo, there's a person on the screen demonstrating the right way to do it, it counts your movements (jumping jacks, sit ups, push ups) for you, and tells you to keeping moving when you are lagging.

It has others all in one app that I haven't got a chance to use yet. I tried to use it for swimming but my phone died before I made to the gym after work. But it really is water proof! I still wore in the pool and it counted that I was being active which it monitors for all the time.

Was very easy to connect to my android.

Cons-

It has an estimated calories burned for the day that I don't think is accurate. On my 6 hour lecture day for school it said I burned almost 2000 calories. You do burn calories for your body to function but during set up, it doesn't ask for height or weight or anything to calculate your BMR. This could just be my not fully understanding how it works but I still don't trust its daily calorie counter. It does give you how many calories you burned when using one of the activity modes that DOES seem to be at least close to accurate.

Does NOT work with Motorola Moto G phone. Only worked 2 of the 5 times I attempted to track my swimm
by johnna (1 out of 5 stars)
March 3, 2016

The moov arrived in a timely fashion, but when I attempted to use it, I was told I needed a firmware update. After three attempts ended in failure, I went to the link that was provided and discovered that my phone, (Motorola Moto G) was not supported in the new software. I then attempted to use it 5 times with the software that I could download. It worked 2 of those 5 times. I gave it 1 star because I lost 3 workouts and spent a lot of time and effort to be disappointed. I'm sure that some people will love this fitness tracker, but I was attempting to utilize it for swimming. I was willing to use the old software and just settle for the limited functionality, but once it didn't even start and twice it failed to upload the workout. The 2 times it did work, it couldn't tell what stroke I was using and didn't even know that I had changed direction on two of the 46 laps it recorded. I am not all that great at swimming, but I do a recognizable freestyle stroke, according to my swimming coach. I think I'll take the refund and buy a real swimming watch, like a Garmin.

Disappointed
by H. M. MCCALL (3 out of 5 stars)
October 20, 2015

Saved this item on my wish list as a fitness tool I was considering, but accidentally purchased it by fumble-fingering on my phone before I had time to really dig into its features. That was my mistake.

On the fence about returning this because what I most wanted it to do--function as a pedometer and synch with my Android phone to use with my health insurance website, while not looking as unattractive (to me) as a Fitbit--is one of the few things it doesn't actually do. It seems short-sighted to leave out a basic feature that pretty much every tracker out there does, which indicates that it is a feature most people use and want.

It comes with wrist and ankle straps and is an attractive little bit of tech, but so far I'm not sure I can use it. If I can't use it, it's going back.

If I keep it and it works out for me, I will update my review. My initial impression is that it's attractive but doesn't currently do what I need it to do. That's not going to work for me. I'm not sure if it is worth it to adjust my expectations or buy another device instead.
