It didn't actually fit my dogs, but I blame the dogs for that

Plan A was to fit this onto our Basset mix. Bassets aren't the most well-proportioned of creatures, and the chest plate would only sit at a very awkward angle, which then pulled the back plate up to the middle of her neck, all of which colluded to make walking into a sort of goose-stepping affair, which looks every bit as ridiculous as you can imagine with those stumpy Basset legs. After about ten seconds of this indignity she laid down on the ground and became very heavy indeed. The world was denied Basset Vision that day, and we are all poorer for it. On to Plan B.

Plan B was a min-pin. The chest plate was an obvious casualty, and with some additional fiddling with the straps, it actually fit him pretty well. He isn't too bright and seemed to think this harness was someone giving him a hug, which suited him just fine. So on went the GoPro, which is where physics played its trump card. With no chest plate to say otherwise, his small frame made the whole apparatus very top-heavy and prone to tilting. So we have a lot of video that, in the span of about thirty seconds, goes from 0 to 90 degrees.

What we did get was really neat, but this was clearly designed for a Lab (or a Lab-sized dog). Maybe some chest plate size options would have made this more useful to us. As it is, it was a fun experiment that ultimately failed, through no fault of the product itself.

Some good things and some bad things
by Klipspringer (3 out of 5 stars)

I've tried several harnesses to capture the world from my dog's point of view, and had high hopes for the GoPro Fetch harness. The good: it is well thought out, high quality, and easy to put on Rover. The bad: the slide-in fasteners could be more secure, and the straps tend to slip and loosen through the buckles as the dog moves. The elastic straps are soft and comfortable (I assume) for the dog, but the slippage is a problem.

I gave the harness the ultimate test a couple of weeks ago on my yellow Lab during a pheasant hunt. I hit a pheasant at long range, my dog took off after it, through the thick brush and out of my sight. Several minutes later she came back with the bird, but no camera or harness. I looked for some time for the camera/harness, with no luck. Remarkably, the next day some other hunters found my camera and harness, and returned it to me. It appears my dog had run about 100 yards and chased the bird through a barbed wire fence, which I suspect removed the camera. It was found right along the fence. Granted, putting a camera on a hunting dog that will go through walls to get a pheasant is the ultimate torture test, but I had hoped for better.

My conclusion: while the harness includes a small tether to secure the camera itself to the harness, I am going to devise a way to attach or tie the harness to the dog's collar. If I had done this on my first outing, the device would at least have stayed attached to the dog. I am also going to have to safety pin the straps together, or otherwise try to keep the straps from slipping. That is my biggest complaint.

If your dog is undertaking milder activity than chasing pheasants, and you can keep the dog in sight, the GoPro Fetch will probably work well. I suggest, though, tying the harness to the dog's collar. I'd also suggest using an older, less expensive GoPro. Get a waterproof camera housing devoted exclusively to this use, as it will get scratched and beat up.

I will try it again, but will rely mostly on a GoPro mounted to my cap, not my dog. Unfortunately, dogs are not designed to be cinematographers.

Had high hopes for this...

I rarely write reviews, but I had to for this garbage. I run a non-profit animal rescue and thought this would be a great way to gain some additional video footage from a dog's pov. The gopro harness for the camera itself is well constructed, but that doesn't mean a thing if the straps and connectors don't do their intended job. Terrible choice in straps and clips. the straps constantly come undone. the clips came out of their loops, and the chest plate kept riding down the straps.

Good for some dogs, Some of the time...

Great way for your four legged friend to capture some great shots. I have 5 dogs in my family and this last summer I though it would be fun to get some gopro footage from their perspective. This was the only one on the market at the time (not anymore) so with no other options I threw down the 50 bucks this thing costs (pretty expensive IMO). First tried this on the largest dog I have and took her to the dog park, which got a lot of weird looks and good laughs. Using my hero 3 I was able to use my phone to frame up a nice POV, and we captured a lot of good footage, although I did have to make a few adjustments as big dogs do play rough and she knocked the camera a few times while rolling around and playing. This is got me stoked and gave me many ideas for other shots so the next day I went and put it on my border collie but unfortunately the results were much different. Because she has a very long coat of hair the harness was not able to stay in one place instead it ended up sliding all over the place while she was running around and we could not get a good shot. Then tried it on a few of the smaller 10 to 20 pound dogs but unfortunately even on the smallest settings this harness is just too large for them in the way of the goPro really affects their balance ha ha. The chest mount for the bigger dogs is a nice feature but be warned that the camera is very vulnerable to impact but hey that's what go for resume for just don't be surprised if you're gopro and scuffed up because it is so low to the ground.

In summary if you have a medium to large dog with a short coat this harness should what work well. But honestly save your money and just go for one of the cheaper options it's basically the same thing just without the gopro branding.

My Labrador likes it and so do I

Really a neat harness for mounting my Hero7 on my labrador. He doesn't mind it, and still does his job regardless if he's wearing the camera or not! It stays put for the most part, though it does slide to one side or the other slightly during rigorous use.

I don't care for the open hook attachment points, I favor strong clips for that type of use but it seems to work ok.

Will NOT STAY ON
by Animal Doctor (1 out of 5 stars)

The concept and the hard plates are excellent. The straps are horrible and are this product's downfall: They are made of heavy elastic and have shallow hooks at the ends which are supposed to hook into loops made of the same elastic. These are horrible; they do not stay hooked. The straps themselves loosen easily; they can't be made to stay snug. I almost lost an entire harness and camera but luckily found it. My solution was to replace all of the straps and hardware with nylon webbing and appropriate hardware. Now it works like it should. If I can do this, I fail to see why GoPro doesn't address this very obvious problem with this product.

Very good but has its limitations

Well constructed. I have a 80 lb lab it fits him well if he gets much bigger the belly strap will be nearly maxed out, the chest/front leg straps seem to ride bag on him after 10-15 min of trail hiking. Maybe taking off the front chest camera mount will help.

The front camera mount is nearly useless since he spends a lot of the time with his nose on the ground. The back camera mount is good, a tall "j" hook is necessary unless you want to stare at the back of his head. No flaw of the GoPro mount but make sure your camera base clips in very tight. I used an off brand j hook and it rattled bad enough to ruin the audio of 1-2 hours of footage only to realize this after the fact which was m fault.

Doesn't work for our dog - resulted in a dry cough to protest its use!

This is not made for older dogs that are 70 to 80 lbs despite advertisement. The Bain reason we purchased the GoPro is so my daughter could record a day in the life of her dog. Sadly, ea h time we or the Vet (yes. We took it to the Vet as it mattered that much to her) he starts coughing (dry cough). We have fiddled with it, paid $120 dollars for a Vet to attempt to I stalll plus $700 to find out the reason for his cough and we basically learned the item just made him feel restricted and like we were choking him. Due to the e pends and investment we made into the camera and all the accessories we hope to find a safe-to-use alternative but in the meantime, let me know if you want to but a GoPro official dog harness!!

Needs a little help...
by TheShawn (3 out of 5 stars)

By itself its just okay because of how shaky your footage is. Unless your dog moves with angelic feet the footage will be extremely shaky and unpleasant to watch. I have a pem. welsh corgi and whenever I use this product during walks or the dog park its hard to see clearly whats going on. Of course when a dog is walking or running there is going to be a lot of moving parts so perfect crisp footage will most likely never happen but this is the best thing there is in terms of a POV footage for a dog. I recommend getting a gimbal to pair with this to help clean up some footage if you are in the same boat as me.

I was amazed by thousands of positive reviews..

I am a professional dog walker and tried it a few times on different dogs and walked away dizzied by the video using the GoPro alone..completely unusable unless the dogs remained still. I went to a gimbal after that with some improvements but can only be used on the back mount. Mounting on the chest was impossible due to the weight and space between strides. The verdict on my end is that I'm sad I purchased. Low expectations from this item is what you should have going.. more gimmick than useful
