The perfect breakfast sandwich (video included)by Daniel C. Hatfield (5 out of 5 stars)

I've been using this breakfast sandwich maker for over a year, and I really do love it. Whenever family or friends visit and happen to spend the night, they all ask me for breakfast sandwiches the next morning because they know how great they are.
I will say, however, that there are some tricks to really getting the ultimate experience with this maker. Lucky for you, I've made a video to share all I've learned from my trial and errors, so you can go straight from unboxing to impressing yourself and your friends with the perfect breakfast sandwich!
Hope you're able to enjoy this little maker as much as my family does.

I didn't like how the egg soaked into the bread
by Sharlyn Le (4 out of 5 stars)

Works as advertised, but with some customization.
For me, I didn't like how the egg soaked into the bread..and then cooked. So what I did was I just added the egg without putting on the top bun. I let the egg cook until about 2 minutes left, THEN I opened up the top of the machine and added the top bun.
Also I felt like the machine made a mess out of the cheese. So what I did was I added my Kraft cheese RIGHT AFTER the machine was done cooking the sandwich. The heat of the sandwich melted the sandwich perfectly for me.
Everything else worked as advertised. I just needed to change up the workflow in order for the sandwich to fit my needs.
Of course my preferences are totally different from yours....or they could be the same.
Hope my review helped.
4 stars because of workflow that they stated in the manual.

Cooks egg sandwiches perfectly and easily! After reading reviews of some people that gave it a low rating of think it is user error more than the sandwich maker itself. Here are some tips: The handles clearly say 'hot'... So use an oven mit to open the handle once it is done cooking.... Egg not cooking the whole way through? Break the yolk and don't overload it with toppings! That's your issue. Wait for it to completely cool before cleaning... The egg residue should peel right off. And for the people that whined about the order of the egg, meat, and cheese not being like a McDonald's Egg McMuffin...flip your bread order. It's that simple. See attached photo... Geez. Reviewers these days can be so dumb! Use your brain :)
If you are from New Jersey you are obligated to own this.

This product is absolutely everywhere. Amazon, Target, Walmart, Marshall's and it is an absolute joy to own.
When i purchased my first one for the Dorm room it was a gimmick and a joke. Little did i know i was going to be running my very own short order diner when it came to playing FiFA with the boys or having late night Netflix and BEC's.
It has been stolen countless times and I have replaced it twice. During the periods of when the Glorious Hamilton Beach Breakfast Sandwich Maker was stolen it was some of my lowest times. I moved out of the state of New Jersey because if i couldn't represent my home with its state sandwich then what else could the great NJ offer to me. I rented an apartment in Bushwick to try and forget my troubles.
Eventually the Stolen Machines made it back and I now have the firepower to feed a room of 15 in about 30 minutes.I couldn't be happier.
Many people say you don't know how many friends you have until you win the lottery.
I don't think people know what its like in college when you are known as the guy with the BEC (Bacon Egg and Cheese for the uninitiated) maker and inflatable hot tub
I also purchased a few of these for White elephant Christmas and they were the absolute most stolen items during those get togethers.
So easy. Possibilities are endless

We spent one morning experimenting. Here's what we found. The best bread to use is the English muffins. Crossiants will burn if cooked too long or if machine was already used and is still very hot. Solution; allowed about 5 minutes of cooling time before making another batch. Also, one batch we used scrambled eggs. Allowed the eggs to cook for 2 minutes before adding top crossiants. Next batch for poached egg, allowed egg to cook for 3 minutes before adding tops. Crossiants cooking time for crisp light non burnt was 4 minutes. Used pre-sliced sourdough bread sliced in half. Did same as above; allowed eggs to cook first then added tops. Perfectly toasted hot sandwiches. Meats used were frozen sausages and ham. We put the sausages in the microwave for 30 seconds to thaw. They were links so used 2 and cut them in half to make 4 halves; fit perfectly. Used fresh sliced deli ham folded in half. Cheeses used; sliced Kraft American singles and Tillamook sliced Swiss. The corners of the cheese stick out a tiny bit and ooze over the edge, but stay on the machine, nothing leaks on to counters. We mixed and matched all breads, meats, & cheeses. Only a couple of fails with cooking times, but most worked great and fun for the kids to help out with the experiment. The easiest bread is the English muffins. No need to allow egg to cook before adding the tops; just throw it all in. Best tasting was the crossiants with scrambled egg, ham, and Swiss. Yum! And the sourdough slices toast real nice. Also did a sourdough sliced, thin slice of mozzarella, thin slice of tomato, sprinkled some basil--no egg (just left the egg dividers open). Was a nice little snack. Would probably be better with bacon and avocado. :). Clean up is a breeze. The cups lift right out; put them in a bowl of hot soapy water for literally a minute, rinsed and dried. Used a warm wash cloth to wipe away crumbs and melted on cheese from the machine, came right off, no scrubbing.
The answer is yes.

FAM. I need you to lissssssen. I would give this product 87 stars if I could. This thing was delivered to my doorstep in two business days, and will provide a lifetime of joy for me. You'd think it would be one of those gimmicky kitchen appliances that barely even works. EXCEPT you're wrong. It's amazing. It's quick. Look. Lissssen. You put the ingredients in and about two minutes later your tummy is all like "oh yesssss." Basically. Just buy it. Purchase the sammich maker. You're welcome.
A healthy start to my day

Since receiving this, I have made a breakfast sandwich every day (for a couple of months now) and I LOVE it! My kids have opted a healthy breakfast sandwich over their usual choice of sugary cereals too much of the time so that's a huge plus. SO much better tasting than the (albeit convenient) pre-made frozen ones you pop in the microwave. You control the ingredients (ex. whole grain English muffin, turkey sausage or ham, egg whites, or a low fat cheese...etc. versus the the less healthy alternatives). It takes literally 5 minutes to produce the breakfast sandwich of your choice from start to finish and the clean up is a breeze, usually an easy wipe down is all that's needed. No lie, super easy.
So, yesterday...after contemplating what to do with a good amount of mashed potatoes I had left over, I decided to see how well some savory potato cakes would hold up in this breakfast sandwich maker. I can say that they turned out beautifully and so much better uniformed than those made on the stove. Whether you're making the purposeful breakfast sandwich, or the occasional experimental pancake of sorts, this appliance is a handy tool in the kitchen. I've been very pleased with its daily performance.

We bought this in July 2016 and I am updating my review in Feb 2017 to say that we are still happy with this and use it an average of 3x a week, sometimes a lot more.
Worth it!
I did not want another weird specialty kitchen appliances that would be used a little and then take up cabinet space. However, my husband would eat frozen Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches daily which are expensive and full of bad ingredients. After over a month of indecision I finally bought it for him, but it has been great for the entire family. It's about the size of a toaster and stores easily.
Delicious!
It's been great! My husband uses it to make his breakfast sandwiches (with all natural ingredients) for a portion of the price. My 4 and 2 year olds love the sandwiches too. We make lunch sandwiches like grilled cheese and turkey. I even make paleo/gluten free friendly versions. Make 2 eggs and veggies sandwiches and a sausage patty in between.
Fast!
It only takes a few minutes and it's really easy to clean up. We even prep our food for the week by putting one egg in a 1 c tupperware with any veggies (or not) that we want. Then each morning we just pull out the food, pour it in the sandwich maker, set the timer and walk away. Less than minutes later we have a delicious perfectly cooked breakfast.
Easy!
The clean up is really easy too. Just remove the rings and wash them with soap. I carefully put the sandwich maker in the sink and wash the inside with a soapy sponge, then carefully rinse it, and set it on a towel to dry. Just like I do with my waffle maker.
Healthy!
This has been a great alternative to the frozen breakfast sandwiches. We use real, fresh, natural ingredients.
We love this!

This is an amazing kitchen gadget that simply works every time.
The first one went to college with my son. He used to eat frozen breakfast sandwiches, which were none too healthy. He love this and uses it regularly for a healthier breakfast. The beauty of this device for a college student is it comes apart easily (see photo) and simply wipes clean.
After using his several times I received one for my birthday. I've used it for breakfast and lunch.
Tip #1: Be sure to spray with a cooking oil at least the first few times you use it. Your egg will stick if you don't do this. It seems to get "seasoned" after a while so that cooking oil is not needed all of the time.
Tip #2: Use English muffins. Yes, biscuits will work, but english muffins fit perfectly and honestly seem to taste the best when warmed in this device.
Tip #3: Use any leftover meat you have. I've sliced up grilled pork, beef and baked chicken. Ham is especially delicious.
It caught FIRE. Twice! Really. TWICE.

SEE SEPTEMBER 2016 UPDATE FOR DETAILS ABOUT THE FIRES. PLURAL.
My husband eats a breakfast sandwich every morning. We'd joked about this sandwich maker, but continued to make his breakfasts the normal way (pan, toaster). I bought it for him for his birthday and he loves it. LOVES IT! He can make his breakfast while dressing in the morning and it's perfect.
I was concerned about clean-up, but it's pretty easy. I just remove the inside rings and rinse/scrub them with my dish brush. Then I plunk them in my dishwater. Using a wet paper towel, I wipe off the appliance's hot plates. I use a soapy dishcloth to wash them and another wet paper towel to rinse. I either leave them to dry on their own or pass a dry towel over them.
My husband prefers Bay brand English muffins (whole wheat) in the sandwich maker because these are on the large side. (8/2015 Actually, I haven't noticed a huge difference in English muffin sizes. Thomas brand's English muffins aren't cut as uniformly as the Bay brand, so sometimes the egg eclipses the muffin top. Really, if you notice that the muffin top is skimpy, just cook the egg by itself for a good minute or two and then add the muffin top. I'm just too lazy to do that.) I buy WalMart's frozen pre-cooked turkey sausage because the patties are thin and large, so they fit perfectly in the appliance. I just keep some in a zip-top bag in the 'fridge. They thaw overnight. My husband likes American cheese on his sandwiches, so I break the slices up into quarters and fit them onto the bottom English muffin in a way that the cheese doesn't extend beyond the bread. Keeping the cheese on the bread ensures that it doesn't melt onto the bottom hot plate and cause a mess. (8/2015) DON'T add extra eggs to the Breakfast Sandwich Maker. Instead of eating your sandwich, you'll be using toothpicks to pick egg out of every bit of this appliance. Your wife will curse you. Many times.
If you have kids or you like breakfast sandwiches to eat as a family, I'd recommend buying the two-sandwich unit. It takes five minutes to prepare a sandwich (after a five-minute preheat), so there'd be a wait for everyone to be able to eat with the single unit.
I would definitely purchase this again. Do we need it? No. Do we WANT it? Heck, yeah. Great price, very useful, and easy to clean. I'll be giving this as gifts for sure.
---August 2015 update---
We use this Breakfast Electric Sandwich Maker everyday. The nonstick coating on the ring insert isn't going to win any prizes, but it still works fine. After daily hand scrubbing, it's worn in some places. A quick shot of Pam still works fine, even though the nonstick coating is worn, so I'm keeping my original 5-star rating. We don't have a dishwasher, but the cleanup is no big deal. I scrub the cooled insert with a dish brush and soak it in a sink full of antibacterial dish water, like the rest of my dishes. The base I just clean with a Clorox disinfecting cloth. Once a week, I pay special attention to the areas where the cooking surface meets the appliance housing as well as the housing itself.
I've given this twice as a gift (one single, one double). Both recipients are really pleased. I already know I'm going to give this to another family member for Christmas.
My husband still is crazy about this thing. He shoots the insert with Pam, preheats the maker for four minutes while he shaves, puts his sandwich ingredients in the maker, and sets the timer for five minutes. He likes his sandwich to cool a little before eating it, so he seasons the egg, finishes getting dressed, and then has his sandwich while watching the morning news. For him to give this as a gift to his mom means he really, really likes it.
UPDATE - FIRES!
September 20, 2016
star rating reduction from five to one
It caught on fire - twice! Both happened in the wire-wrapped cord in the back of the appliance.
I kid you not. My original unit caught fire in January 2016. It was outside the warranty period, so I went to a big box store and bought another one. That's right. I bought one after the first had caught fire. I thought, "What are the chances this second breakfast sandwich maker will self-immolate?"
Turns out: the chances were pretty good.
Yup. The second breakfast sandwich maker sparked and smelled like burnt wiring over the weekend. I emailed Hamilton Beach (No one staffs the phone on weekends) to let them know this happened to me. Twice.
It's within the warranty period, so they're replacing the appliance and they sent me a label to return Sparky.
I know, I know. A *third* breakfast sandwich maker? How dumb am I? What are the chances of a third fire?
I'm testing both of those questions in the name of science. And, well, the faulty thing makes good sandwiches, dammit.
