Puts your Optics closer ***But for a Mosin Nagant M91/30, you should really read my review*** .
by D. Monty Jennings (5 out of 5 stars)
December 29, 2016

I am using these on my Hi Point 995TS Carbines, my AR-15's & I'm trying one out on an ProMag/Archangel conversion stock kit for my 1945 Mosin Nagant M91/30 rifle.

As for stability, it's made very well. It's thick, so there's no scope movement & since it's so long, your optics are close enough to the eye.

They do come in 3-different lengths. I'm going to get the 2 shorter one's so I can match them up, for myself & so I can recommend them for others.

I think price wise they could do a bit better but that wasn't the issue I was concerned about. It was the length I both needed & wanted. On my Ruger Mini 14, casings that were ejected actually hit the scope. If I had this rail extender, it probably could have helped.

Mosin Nagant M91/30 Rifles. ***Now before I get into my Rifle, in the last photo's where I show you where your Scope will end up, doing it my way, or using this extended rail, attached to the rear sight area, and how far your Scope will end up if it's mounted on a Nagant M91/30. I for one do not like using a 8" to 10" Eye Relief Scope, 3" away from my eye is far enough. With that said, read on.

I bought 2 Nagant's at a Brick & Mortar Sporting Goods Store. Because of their mix-ups I got both for $86 out the door. As seen in the photos, I have my 1945 Nagant in an Archangel Stock Kit, which I bought for $80 shipped. Now I could have used the MN extended rail from the seller but heres the problems with it.
1: Other users have said they couldn't hold zero. Since we have no control over what others may say, nor can we actually be there with the person who's doing the shooting, lets just move on. Okay, what I ended up doing was going online to another website that sells a few different types of Scope Mounts. Now I wasn't about to go the cheapest way out when it came to the Scope or the Scope mount. I paid $50 for my mount. What makes it different than the mounts that you bolt into the rear sight area on your rifle is, this one bolts on behind the Barrel which also means it's behind the Boom part of the gun. So what I mean is you're not gonna have a lot of pressure, so no need to worry about that. It's tricky & can be scary to do it yourself but if you take the time & follow all the directions you can get, which is probably gonna be from an online source, [YouTube Mosin Nagant M91/30 Scope Mount.] Now, first I had to have a Bolt Modification done because neither Nagant's were Sniper Rifles, with the 90 degree bend on the Bolt Handle. Another $50 & here's why. Those 7.62x54 rim-fire shells tend to make your shoulder hurt, they do pack a punch, that's why mine are in the Archangel Stock. At any rate, I went the welded on Bolt Handle route simply because I didn't wanna find out down the road that the cheaper Drill-Tap-Bolt on style Bolt handle would keep coming loose, or me over tightening, like I've been known to do, which screws up the entire process. That being said, I shipped the Bolt Handle out, had this 3 inch Handle installed which means I am finally ready to put on the Mount & zero in my Scope. After figuring how to find the TDC [Top Dead Center] on the Barrel, for lack of a better word, drilled, tapped & mounted the Scope. As you can see in the photo's, it doesn't look like a Rifle from 1945. Apart from the Rim Fire Cartridges, it's pretty much like what our Troops would have in their personal collection of Business Tools & Accessories Cache.... Now if you want to go my route but do not feel you can get your Mount exactly where it needs to be, you can pretty much go to any Gun Smith & have them do it. I'd go to an area Gun Range to see if they know anyone who does custom work at a fair price because unless you know a Gun Smith, if you say too much to some, they'll take advantage of you, now not all but just auto repair garages, they can do a pretty good job of talking you into fixing your car, then holding it hostage while you figure out which credit card you can use to get your car back home with.

Turns your rail into a "scout mount" to mount a Scout Scope and turn your rifle into a Scout Rifle!
by D. Watson (4 out of 5 stars)
October 9, 2018

I used this rail extension to mount an extended-eye-relief scout scope (a Burris 200261 Ballistic Plex 2-7x32mm) to my single-shot rifle.

The good:
- This rail extends the length of your Picatinny rail forward by 14 slots (almost 6"), which is enough to mount a forward-mounted "Scout Scope" on your rifle, turning any rifle into a Scout Rifle!
- At only four ounces, it's very light weight, which is also good for making a scout rifle.
- This rail is much cheaper than hiring a gunsmith to install a custom scout-mount on the barrel of your rifle. Besides, not all rifle barrels are suitable for mounting a rail, due to their thinness or taper.
- Fits any rifle with a Picatinny rail on top (and should fit weaver-style rails as well, but I haven't tried that).
- Right now, Lion is about the only manufacturer that makes rail extensions long enough for a scout scope.

The not-so-good:

I subtracted one star because in making the product lightweight (4 oz), Lion seems to have sacrificed some sturdiness. The front of the rail can be flexed by hand. This is probably not a concern for short to mid-range shooting using non-Magnum calibers, which is typically what forward "scout scopes" are used for. However, if you're planning to put this on a sniper rifle, or do long-distance hunting using Magnum calibers, I suspect it may be less accurate than a sturdier mount.

However, the only competing products I know of that were sturdier are either too short, or were discontinued, including the discontinued "Yankee Hill Machine Half Inch Rail Riser 11.25 Inches Long YHM-9590" (which another review mentioned) and the discontinued "Weaver Tactical AR-15 Picatinny Rail QD #99659" (which I also own, but my Weaver-brand rail wasn't long enough to mount a forward scout scope, which is why I bought this Lion scope extension).

Its a nicely made part for what it is
by MoneyPit,Top Contributor: Cycling (2 out of 5 stars)

Its a nicely made part for what it is, which is an airsoft level of sturdiness. Looking at it... its nicely finished and appears well made. Where there's a potential issue is in its stiffness. You can bend it by hand which means on a rifle that gets more than the most cursory use it can flex and potentially not come back to zero. A truly quality part is not going to bend, and similar products from mainstram manufacturers - which admittedly cost more - don't. If its just a rimfire fun gun, or an airsoft, this product will do just fine. For any serious use look elsewhere. In the end I wound up buying the YHM rail - also from Amazon - which while still being lightweight doesn't flex at all, even though I mounted it on a section of rail shorter than it was.

But of course its double the price.

Works great, plenty of room for optics.
by J. Wescott (5 out of 5 stars)

Item mounts firmly and holds my optics (Sightmark 3x magnifier and Ultra Shot QD). Only put a few rounds through it but so far it has held zero. The product is black, I used Duracoat to make it FDE. There is a bit of parallax going on in the photo, 5 3/4" is over the receiver - 4 1/4" overhang.

Great rail the set screws leave much to be desired
by heath gleason (3 out of 5 stars)

The rail itself is great the screws however not so much the Allen wrench that was sent did not quite fit like it was a standard when it needed to be a metric or vice versa I contacted the seller and to their credit they sent me a new set of screws very quickly however to get them tight like I wanted I used a dremal to cut a slot for a flat head screwdriver I then worked fantastic. However in only felt comfortable doing that after I had an extra set.

solid 10 inch picatinny extended rail on a 0.5 inch riser
by Chronossieur (5 out of 5 stars)
October 12, 2019

This is a solid picatinny rail. I used it to mount a prism scope on a 44 magnum revolver. With a bit of Loctite I have had no issues with over 100 rounds. Like the description says, the rail is 10 inches long with a 0.5 inch riser. The screws are steel on steel clamp not cheap T6061 aluminum. You will be happy with this purchase.

The extra long reach is great, but they machined a void under the rail
by Amazon Customer (2 out of 5 stars)

The extra long reach is great, but they machined a void under the rail. That voided space makes it lighter but kind of flimsy.

It flexes very easily. I suppose it would be more rigid after the scope was mounted. Also the allen socket on the screw rounded out with the provided wrench. I chose to go in a different direction and use a shorter more rigid mount.

Look elsewhere
by Xyooj (2 out of 5 stars)
May 21, 2018

Too much flex in the extended part of the rail, it acts like the springboard at the swimming pool. Too much weight at the end and it will flex and bend, so a heavy scope won't do and too much recoil and you can hear it go "boing". I would definitely find another rail riser extension with a thicker extension part.

Not very stiff; poor finish; wouldn't align well
by MH. (2 out of 5 stars)
September 29, 2017

As others have noted the finish isn't great with some bare spots. It somewhat appears cast then painted not anodized.

End is somewhat rough cut - which speaks to not much actual milling machine time.

It's not very stiff at the extension. You can push on it and flex it. I was very concerned about putting it in my soft bag for fear of bending it permanently or at least knocking anything out of alignment.

Returned.
