THE SOLUTION!!! <3

I'm on my second jar of this now. I wanted to give it a month before really touting this product. I've been trying to find a natural deodorant that actually works for about 7 years now.

I've tried Tom's, Jason's, all-natural Arm & Hammer, just lemon (worked surprisingly well, but wildly inconvenient when travelling), no deodorant, crystals, coconut oil only, etc, etc etc. Most of the branded deodorants just don't work, make me sticky, have a funny smell, and just don't stop sweat. I am a profusely sweaty human (I call them the switts), so eventually I went back to the nasty, aluminum, prescription-strength deodorant, becausde I was embarrassed of my switts (that's sweaty armpits) and didn't want to smell funky (I'm very sensitive to smells).

In doing research to make my own deodorant, I discovered arrowroot powder, and wanted to try a product before making my own... Needless to say, while this is a small and expensive jar, I likely won't begin making my own because I love this one so much.

As other reviewers have mentioned, your pits could get a little red -- likely due to the irritation of the baking soda. Just don't use more than a pea-sized amount, and start out with a little and work your way up. If you're getting red, you could also mix it with a little more coconut oil before applying. (The base is coconut oil, so it would just dilute it.)

I also tried Schmidt's at the exact same time, but it legitimately didn't work as well. Or perhaps my body didn't interact well with Schmidt's Cedarwood-Juniper scent, whereas it does with Primal Pit's Lavender. This is also something to keep in mind when choosing a scent: because of our individual pheromones, some essential oils just won't blend well with our own natural scents. I picked lavender because I know it works for me. (Cedarwood usually does, too, but not this time.)

You may sweat a lot or smell a little funny at first, but this is likely your body de-toxing. Aluminum deodorants work by blocking your sweat pores. Thus, you'll have some backed up stuff coming out of there. Try this for at least two weeks before giving up on it. If it's made you red early on, that should stop by then, and if you were stinky at first, that should go away, too.

I paid full price for this product and wasn't bribed to write a review. (:

NOT as advertised!

I ordered this as I was searching high and low for a jar of the old yellow jar formula of Primal Pit Paste, which I love and have been using for a couple of years. Recently, the company has changed the formula and packages this new formula in a jar with a purple label (for the lavender scent). This new formula does not work well at all - doesn't smooth on as nice, which I could live with, but the formula itself doesn't work. Stink by 3pm, whereas with the yellow jar formula I'd wake up the next day without any smell.

Needless to say, I'm not happy that a jar with a purple label showed up. And apparently there are no returns, so I'm out $13 for something I didn't want that doesn't work. I've since switched to Schmidt's natural deodorant, which is fairly similar to Primal Pit Paste, except that it actually works. I'm always astounded by companies who take a fantastic product that works just great and decide they have to change it into something worse - so frustrating!!!

Ouch!

This stuff can irritate your skin! As a lot of other people have said, one outcome from what would otherwise be a great product is that you end up with a rash and/or burned skin. I used it without any problem for almost two months before this happened. But then? Ouch! I realized I had a big, very red swatch of skin under one arm and it hurt! So, alas, I cannot recommend it and now have to look for something else.

Will never buy anything else

Over the past few years I've been getting rid of nasty chemicals in my home and switching to all vegan products. Deodorant was a tough one for me to get through. Some of the natural stuff, I swear, makes me even smellier than when i started and as a personal trainer, I can't be scaring people away with my stank. I tried everything I could find, which wasn't that much because so many things on the market are antiperspirant which is a fast track way to alzheimers and I'm just not about that life. I was about to give up and just live a life of a very smelly person when I found Pit Paste, and I am in love! It's a little weird to get used to rubbing it right on my pits with my hand, but this stuff is a freaking miracle product. It smells ahhhh-mazing and works like a charm. Now, even after my most intense classes, I smell heavenly! I will never, ever buy anything else for these pits.

Works great for me.

Fantastic product. To be fair, I'm not an overly smelly armpit person. That said, I love Primal Pit Paste AND Schmidts AND Piper Wai. They all work wonderfully for me. Yes, I did get an initial bad reaction when I first tried all natural deodorant, but then discovered that most everyone has to "detox" from their old mainstream deodorant first. I used some Sulfur soap for about a week to help clear up the bumps/rash in my pits and tried again. Worked like a charm and no more rash after my next applications. I ordered all three kinds of natural deodorants (Primal Pit Paste, Schmidt's, and Piper Wai) to check them all out and see which one I liked best. Scent-wise, I really like the Schmidts and Piper Wai, BUT I have only tried the Lavender scent from Primal, so maybe I'll like some of the other scents better. Texture-wise, Primal is my favorite. It's soft, so you don't need a paddle (even though it does come with one, I use my fingers) and it goes on smooth. The Schmidt's and Piper Wai are a littler harder and you have to hold it up to your armpit for a few seconds to warm it up before you try and smooth it on. All three work on me great, though, and I would rate them all 5-stars.

This stuff actually works....even if you're a super sweaty gal like me!

I loveeeeee this stuff. Now let me tell you, I'm not one of those girls that only sweats a little and can get away with wearing most natural deodorants. I sweat. A lot.

I've been trying to find a natural deodorant that you know, actually works. One that doesn't make me start smelling my own BO around 10am. Tried a lot of them, all same result. Works fine for a solid 1-2 hours, then the stink sinks through. And don't even think about putting it on before the gym unless you want to be THAT person who doesn't wear deodorant.

But, alas! An all natural deodorant that actually works!! My boyfriend first bought the unscented one which I naturally thought would be bad news for me by the end of the day being around his sweaty self. But no....he didn't smell at all! So I did the thing girlfriends do and I stole some of his deodorant and was really surprised...and then stole it again the next day....and the next day until I was caught! So I bought some of my own and because I'm a girl and like to smell pretty I went with the lavender. I'm pretty sensitive to smells and the amount of smellyness from this is perfect - it's just enough to make you feel fabulous but not enough to make your eyes water.

I think this stuff actually works better than a lot of regular deodorants out there in general. Three cheers for Primal Paste!

Love it but don't love the lavender scent

I think Primal Pit Paste is a great alternative to deodorants with aluminum. The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars was I just did not like the lavender scent and it was pretty powerful so everyone was smelling it. I prefer something more subtle. This pit paste did great to combat any body odor even when sweating, if I was working out or outside in the sun it was best to reapply once in the afternoon but I usually need to do that with traditional deodorants as well. I didn't have any irritation after detox (for me it lasted 2 days) and I just applied about a pea size amount with my fingers. It dries almost instantly and I did not have any residue on my clothes which is a big plus for me. Overall I really like it but will be trying a different scent next time.

I like it but my mom did not

I bought a pit paste for myself and my mother. I loved it and had great results. My mother had an allergic reaction and she did not like the scent. She also has been using deodorant that has aluminum in it, so she is used to having dry armpits and was not prepared for the wetness that comes with using natural deodorant. I, on the other hand, enjoyed the product. I did not buy again only because I am going through every natural deodorant just because of FOMO and seeing if there is anything that I like better (I've tried a bunch already but not all). But, I did like the product! Just be prepared - natural deodorants do not stop you from sweating, they just block the smell of your body odor. If you're good with that, you'll love the paste. I got the lemongrass scent and liked it. My mom had the lavender and did not like it. I ended up using her lavender one and I was fine with it!

Old product?

I have been using PPP and love it. But I just got this new jar from this seller and I dont know if it is an old jar or not the real thing, but it is definitely subpar. The consistency is all wrong - really grainy and turns into little balls when you try to spread it on. I'm going to throw it away and buy a new jar at the store. Disappointed.

In fact I felt I smelled worse than ever before with or without it
by NicholeM (5 out of 5 stars)

Switched to a natural deodorant when regular deodorants quit working. I had switched regular deodorants going to a higher concentration without realizing it. That worked for a time but eventually My regular deodorant quit working. In fact I felt I smelled worse than ever before with or without it. I stopped using anything for a few days and started the natural deodorant. There was a period of about a week that I had odor. I guess this was the detox period I have read from other reviews on natural deodorant. In any case after that period the natural deodorant started working. You still sweat (as natural isn't an antiperspirant) and you need to shower daily or after a workout but I feel that is pretty normal whatever product you use. My armpits had a darker color after years of using regular antiperspirant. Within a month of using natural my armpits have a natural healthy color as the rest of my skin. I still shave daily without irritation. My thoughts are if using an antiperspirant can change the appearance of your skin while chemically blocking sweat and if your body tries to work around it over time making it ineffective then it probably isn't that great a product to use. I really like this natural deodorant : )
