For the money you can't do any better.
by Mark S. Schroeder (4 out of 5 stars)

I just got the Eleckey Bluetooth speaker today but I've already put it through its paces and so here is my initial impressions of the device.

Sound:

The device has really good sound. Previously I had a Phillips Soundshooter which was pretty nice but the audio is much cleaner on this speaker. It's not a full robust sound but it's nowhere near being hollow and distorted. I use this all day on my hip at work and even at full volume I'm not getting any distortion like I would on my Soundshooter. I believe it's a little louder than the Phillips speaker as well but I lost it so I can't be sure.

Build quality:

It has a matte plastic build to it which picks up fingerprints pretty easily but makes it hard to slip from your hands. I don't think it would have much problems if it was dropped but it's nice to know I wont have to worry about it hitting the floor when it's in my hand. It has four rubber feet on one of the side so you can put it on a table and it wont slide. The weight is pretty good, it wasn't noticeable when attached to my pants while I worked.

Buttons:

This is in a category by itself because it was one of my issues with the Phillips Soundshooter. The buttons on my old bluetooth speaker can only be mentioned as singular. There was only one button on it that controlled pause, play and bluetooth scanning. It was extremely sensitive and also placed near the hole by the carabiner. So whenever I was bending down or moving the button had a lot of potential to hit something that would pause the music. If the button was held against something for a few seconds it would completely disconnect from my phone and I would have to repair it. This got annoying. So it's nice to see that the buttons on the Eleckey speaker are tactile and spaced far away from the the carabiner. The ability to have more control of my music from the speaker is also a huge plus. The forward and back buttons are a little hard to press because they are on the narrow part of the speaker but I'm pretty sure I will get used to it and find an optimal way of hitting them 100% of the time. The volume dial is not a big deal for me because I don't change the volume that often. It's either playing or paused. Also it can be annoying because it doesn't control the volume of your phone. So now you have to remember to set the volume of your phone to your liking and then set the volume of your speaker along with it. Also no indication of volume levels makes me just turn the speaker onto max volume instead of slightly below in hopes of better audio quality. Since most speakers in this price range distort at max volume it would be nice to have that control to know where my volume is.

Battery life: Only used it for one day so far but I've had it on for 5 hours straight and it didn't die. No battery life indicator to know how much of the battery has been used.

Small notes:

The carabiner is a must for me because I walk around a warehouse all day and the one provided is a little small and generic so I bought a slightly bigger one that has a better build quality. It only cost a couple bucks so that wasn't a problem and has me less worried about it down the road.

When turning on and connecting the speaker to your phone they should have used beeps to signal a connection has been made and not had a voice tell me.

When connected to my Samsung Note 4 it must think that my speaker is also a bluetooth keyboard because whenever I try to do a search the keyboard wont pop up. I have to click the search field again in order to get the on screen keyboard to pop up. When I disconnect the speaker the keyboard works fine.

I don't know how the microsd card slot even works let alone how you can even think of navigating a 32gb sd card full of mp3's without a screen

Summery:

So far the Elekey Bluetooth speaker has been a solid improvement over my previous speaker. The sound is clearly better, the button layout is great and is extremely easy to use without looking at it, and it really seems like a great value. When I bought this I had a lot of doubt on the quality of this device. Something so cheap has to have a major downside. After spending a day with it I don't see one. It's a solidly good device all around which makes it great. Instead of being great at everything and terrible at everything else Eleckey really did a good job here and made a great overall product that wouldn't disappoint for the cost.

The Voice
by chaoticmuse (3 out of 5 stars)
July 13, 2015

The sound is fine, the clip is practical and useful and the size is a bit big but OK. What's the drawback that keeps this a 3 star instead of a 5 star? The Voice. Why on earth did they think it was necessary to have a heavily accented woman's voice tell me the thing was connecting and then connected? Loudly. It is almost a stereotypically Asian accent but clearly authentic. It's so bad that I would never turn this thing on in public for fear that people would think I was mocking people with Asian accents. The Voice also makes my dog howl. Every single time. I can try burying it under pillows and turning it on while he is in the living room or outside and still it will illicit a mournful and reproachful howl. I sympathize because it makes me want to howl too. Sadly it can't be turned down or off because it isn't connected to the volume control. It's just part of the functioning of the machine. Bizarre choice on the part of the manufacturers and when this one dies I won't be buying a second one.

Not very good. Buy the Noria instead.
by M&D (2 out of 5 stars)
April 16, 2015

Very tinny sound compared to the similar Noria I purchased on Amazon. I just thought I would try this as it's about $15.00 less than the Noria. Bad idea. Voice prompting is comical due to the accent at first but then becomes annoying later. Volume resets to mid level each time its turned on which is also annoying rather than staying where it was previously set, especially since the volume wheel is flimsy and has to be turned up 30 revolutions to increase volume. Sound quality and volume control are cheap and tinny. Bass levels are almost nonexistent. It also breaks up reception, even when 3' away from my phone on Bluetooth in a stationary location. Spend the extra money on the Noria.

I'm impressed by the sound quality and loudness for such a small speaker. As others have said, the strangely accented voice (it sounds like the voices of the people in Twin Peaks who went into the Black Lodge, for those who have seen the show), which tells you when the speaker is ready to pair and when it pairs, gets profoundly annoying after a while. As I travel a lot and use this in the car for, on average, 6 hours a week, I've found myself randomly going, "the bluetoof device has connected-uh successful-ay" in my head.

Aside from that, great product :)

Bought this in May 2015 and don't really have a need to use it often. I may have charged it 2x from then to now. I've been doing car fix ups in my garage and used it and guess what? It was low on battery but won't charge when I try to. Bummer. I hate that I bought it then for $40-$50 and it's $12 now. I really like how it sounds though.

I enjoy thid Bluetooth speaker, its kind of small it has fm radio and it sounds great and its wireless. I can carry this anywhere I go and have it connected to my phone and listen to music or answer incoming calls, this speaker is all of it.

Good speaker for cars without bluetooth (music and phone)
by Zach Rubin (4 out of 5 stars)
February 23, 2015

For the price the product is excellent. I keep it in my car all the time and use it to play music and audio books while I drive. My car isn't blue tooth enabled so this is a low cost alternative. The sound quality and volume are fine for me. The call quality also seems fine but I'm guessing there are better products out there if you expect to be on the phone in your car a lot.

I loved this thing! The sound was great. After about a week this speaker put off a horrible high pitched sound. I couldn't get it to shut off.
