Product Description

Introducing the newly designed Mounted Snap+, the heavy-duty version of the popular groove Snap3 for seamless digital device mounting. The new product maintains the minimalist design and magnetic properties of the groove Snap3, but focuses on a sturdier grip into the CD slot. Mounter's Snap+ neatly inserts into vehicle CD slots or existing dashboard grooves to provide a firm, stable mount for protecting and displaying digital devices on the road. Smartphones, GPS devices, phablets and even tablets securely attach to the mount's magnetic-reinforced badge, permitting hands-free use while driving. Due to the patented blade-support system, installation requires no suction cups, no clips, no screw, no adhesives and no glue. New features of the Mounted Snap+ include: a streamlined design for a minimalist look, a rubber-coated metal groove blade system, 2 new shapes and sizes of steel badges for smartphones and tablets, overall improvements for more reliable installation and grip. Designed in California, USA. Domestic and International Patents Pending.

Features

  • Universal - Firmly mounts smartphones, GPS units, and lightweight tablets, incl. iPhone 4/5/5C/5S/6/6+/6 Plus, iPad Mini, iPad Air, Samsung Galaxy S3/S4/S5, Note 2/3, HTC One, Motorola Turbo Moto X, Nokia Lumia, Google Nexus, Amazon Fire, Nexus 5/6/7
  • Comes ready to use with a heavy-duty, sturdy grip thanks to a rubber-reinforced METAL insertion blade. Built like a tank but quite simple, the installation of the Snap+ blade system involves just the turning of a thumb knob
  • Easy Installation - Insert directly into a front-loading CD player slot and still easily control your device from the driver's seat. Or insert into a dashboard groove to keep your CD player accessible. No suction cups, no clips, no screw, no glue
  • Flexible - Sophisticated ball joint adapter allows for fine-tuning your display angle for maximum viewing comfort while driving
  • How is it different from Mounter's popular groove Snap3? The Snap+ was specifically designed to support the weight of today's larger devices, such as the iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Mini, and iPad Air

Snap + and the clamp model) I thought the Snap+ would offer some more magnets for a stronger hold be
by Simmer (4 out of 5 stars)
February 25, 2015

I owned all 3 of the mountek's (The Snap 3, Snap + and the clamp model)

I thought the Snap+ would offer some more magnets for a stronger hold because its advertised as being the 'heavy-duty version' and recommended for bigger , heavier items. Naturally I assumed it meant a stronger connection between the item and magnet. However, I was wrong. The only difference between the 2 versions is the CD mounting attachment.

The Snap+ seems to be more sturdy, however, this will go unnoticed for most devices (I own an iPhone 6, and the Snap 3 and Snap+ offer the same experience).

The only reason I kept it and prefer the Snap+ in my Mazda 3, is because I have to mount them with the tightening bolt placed above. If it is underneath, it will hit into my power button when hitting any bumps and turn my radio off. And unlike the Snap 3, the magnet part (when the bolt is on top), makes the phone sit much lower so that it is not covering my HUD. The Snap 3 is the opposite. When the bolt is placed on top, the phone sits higher because the magnet is also higher up. This causes the phone to hide my view of my temperature display.

Overall, I love the Snap 3 better because of its other uses as a desk stand, or the ability to clamp onto certain objects (thin objects seemingly. nothing like a computer monitor). I decided to keep both. The Snap+ for my car because it is situated lower and because it grips my CD tray better, and the Snap 3 as a stand on my office desk.

In either case ,I definitely recommend the magnet mounts over the clamp mount. The clamp mount always came loose and was a pain in the butt to attach and reattach. It even clamped my finger one time. Was not fun :o

Hope this helps.

The Snap+ does not appear to have a stronger magnetic hold
by Matthew (4 out of 5 stars)
March 21, 2015

I own both the Mountek Grip and the Mountek Snap+. I've had the grip for a year now, and it serves its purpose. In my new car (Malibu 15) it doesn't stay in the CD slot as well as it did in the old car (Malibu 12). The new version on the Snap+ was supposed to hold in the CD slot better, and it does. When not in use, the grip takes up a lot more room than the Snap+. I was getting tired of messing with the arm release on the Grip, so decided to look for and upgrade to a magnetic mount. The Snap+ (versus the Snap3) was advertised to have HeavyDuty magnetic strength grip. I was disappointed to find out it has the same number of magnets as the Snap3, even though it has space for twice as many magnets. My hope was to stick the larger metal plate on the inside of my iPhone 5s kickstand case. The magnets were not strong enough to hold it the case in this manner. The case I have does not allow for applying the metal plate to the outside of this particular case.

So while I've been very satisfied with the Mountek Grip, my expectations were set too high for the Snap+ and I feel I've been misled by their representation of magnetic strength versus the Snap3; to which I also assumed would be strong than the competing and less expensive competitors. Other than that, I'm happy with the Snap+

Update 2015-03-25 - I've switched to a newer kickstand case, that works much better with the Snap+. The Aduro Cache http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00NB704L4 can accomodate the larger metal plate inside or outside the case, and still allow the kickstand to operate.

I was previous using a case by i-Blason http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0098T62GA that the metal plates were not working with. The magnet was not strong enough to work with the large metal plate inside the case, and the outside of the case could not accommodate the smaller metal plate and still allow the kickstand to operate.

Update 2015-04-08 - I've switched to a new slim case http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IODNLYC I've installed the square metal plate to the outside of the new case (the plate is too thick to use inside of this particular case). The magnetic hold is EXCELLENT. Very happy with the combination of the new case and this mount (with the metal plate on the outside of the case).

I did order some replacement metal plates (the larger ones) directly from Mountek. They were shipped in a padded envelope and received severely bent. They did promptly replace them, and reshipped in an actual box :p

As for the title "does not appear to have a stronger magnetic hold". I think the description of the Snap+ is actually misleading. I don't think they are trying to imply the magnetic hold is strong, but rather the grip into the CD player/slot is stronger.

Great in some respects but fails in others
by CodeEngie (2 out of 5 stars)

I purchased the Mountek Snap+ because I've grown tired of the suction cup and adhesives that come with car docks. After reviewing other similar products and reading many reviews I took a chance on the Snap+ with its many promising features. The Mountek is well built, didn't feel cheaply made to me. It also installed easily in my '15 Ford Focus ST cd slot.

The biggest seller for me was that it could hold a phablet. I've been using this mount with a Nexus 6 w/Seidio Dilex case for about 9 months. I initially sandwiched the metal inside the Dilex layers to see if it would hold, but although it did attach to the magnets my phone would slip very slowly as I drove. So after trying it like this a few times it seemed to work better in a portrait position but I prefer my phone be in landscape. Portrait view held out a lot better but eventually would slip. Afterwards, I opted to attach the metal insert to the outside of the Dilex case which did resolve a lot of the slippage issues I was having but introduced another problem or at least one I didn't notice before. So what started happening as I drove or hit small bumps is the ball joint/mount section would move down. The ball joint attachment does not have any way of tightening it in order to lock its position. In my book that is a major flaw because other mounts have this very simple function and how this mount can hold a small tablet is beyond me if it can't hold my Nexus 6. I'm still using it in my car because it does work for the most part and I was able to get it from dropping down by putting a small microfiber tower in between the ball joint. But I am looking for an alternative product which I'm hoping wont have this flaws or if Mountek fixes these issues I would buy that version.

So before I finish this review I also think Mountek should of included the additional 3 magnets as an option for users to add to their mount if they wanted to further secure their device. Having to purchase them separately feel like nickel and diming.

Magnets not strong enough!
by Taisha R (4 out of 5 stars)

I really like this mount. I have one in both of my cars and I bought one for Mom's car as well. But the one thing I've been really disappointed with is the strength of the magnets. With my old phone it barely held on, but when I upgraded to an iPhone 7 Plus it just became unusable. The slightest bump in the road would make my phone crash down into the floor. Very irritating to say the least.

I pulled off the rubber pad to see it's not even full of magnets. There are 6 holes and only 3 are filled with magnets. Cheapskates lol. I bought 3 more rare earth magnets to fill all the holes but even that wasn't enough. So I bought some thin 1" diameter wafer magnets to create the somewhat insane magnet stack you see below. The rubber pad is stuck on to the top magnet with double sided tape. You DO still need the rubber, even with this many magnets, because it is too slippery and the phone can rotate and turn upside down. But now I'm fairly pleased with it.

Mountek, you need stronger magnets!

Great product but major flaw!
by Omi (2 out of 5 stars)

This is a great but it suffers from a major flaw. It has the typical ball joint you see on similar products to adjust the viewing angle but there is no type of tensioner on the ball. I've had it for less than a week and everytime I hit a speed bump or large pot hole the tablet points downward. I only have a nexus 7, it doesn't weigh enough for this to happen. I do drive a jeep though with a relatively tough suspension. But, this should not happen either way.

I recommend another brand as this isn't any more "heavy duty" than that cheaper brands "Original Pat
by Evan Worthing (3 out of 5 stars)

First, if your car can use this type of cd slot magnet mount, get one. They're great. However I recommend another brand as this isn't any more "heavy duty" than other brands regular ones.

Ordered this model - Mountek nGroove Snap+ - for my wife's car. I've had the competing product InifiniApps Slyde CD mount for over a year now and I'm completely happy with that one, I recommend it to everyone. It is however a little but of a tight fit based on the way her instrument cluster is designed. I decided to try the Mountek version with what is claimed is a stronger magnet and a slightly different spacing on the thumbscrew.

This one does fit "slightly" better, than my infiniapps model but the magnet is weaker! This is supposed to be stronger. The larger metal backplate for a "small tablet" doesn't help much. I noticed that under the magnet cover (which comes off too easily) that only 3 of the 6 spaces for magnets are filled. I checked out the manufacturer website and they mention that this is correct and they don't recommend the 3 extra magnets and don't sell them. I probably would buy them, but really they should be provided if you have a problem with magnet strength for larger phones.

The fact that it is overstating its ability, overall build quality compared to the competitor and fact that it costs almost 50% more than the superior product makes me rank this lower.

I really enjoyed the original Snap
by darensdorff (5 out of 5 stars)
October 1, 2015

I have purchased each version of these vehicle mounts, from the original mountek to the Snap, to the Snap+. I really enjoyed the original Snap, however it kept slipping out of the CD slot and dropping my phone. The "blades" the used on this version are plastic and have a slight angle on them that dont allow the blades to grip that well. They do have some sort of rubber infused into the blades, but it is not enough.

I researched the issue and came across a few individuals that were having the same issue. I looked into the Snap+ and realized it used the same type of "blades" as the original MounTek (Metal blades with rubber coating). I purchased immediately and havent had an issue since. phone is stable and doesn't move one bit. Have had it mounted in my car for a few weeks and havent even had to adjust it.

For reference I own a 2011 Chevy Camaro and the CD slot is a shiny chrome plated plastic bezel.

Excellent upgrade, really paid attention and addressed design flaws with this one.
by Daniel Pritchett (5 out of 5 stars)
June 5, 2015

I upgraded to this from the standard snap 2 and it's miles better. The improvements I notice are
1. Less parts. The Snap 2 was two distinct pieces for the pressure mechanism, while this one is a solid piece with cut-outs to allow the parts to separate
2. Metal plate where screw meets the surface and metal reinforced plastic ensures it won't weaken over time or bend. I live in florida and park my car outside most of the day so my snap 2 is pretty much bent and warped from the pressure/heat combo. The old one even fell out due to the temperature changes.
3. Better magnet and grip cover. The cover is part of what makes it better, more friction and surface area so less phone sliding down because of bumps if you ever had that issue.
4. Super stable. Once screwed in I noticed the phone was moving with the body of the car. The last model wobbled around from regular road driving and was terrible with bumps. I noticed the phone stayed solid like it was attached to the car.

Excellent product, while the snap 2 wasn't perfect it held me over for this version, can't see much they can do to improve it other than adding some sort of stabilization of the phone and the device. Jury is still out on how it handles long bouts with the sun.

I needed a good mount for my car
by Amazon Customer (5 out of 5 stars)
February 12, 2015

I don't often need gps directions, so I don't own a dedicated device. I use my phone for that purpose on those few occasions. I needed a good mount for my car, but didn't want one of those which suction to the dashboard. I don't want to block visibility through the windshield, and don't want to place a sticky disk to the top of my (new car's) dashboard.

I was in a friend's car recently and noticed the mountek holder slotted into the cd player...perfect! I went straight away and bought one of these. Very easy to use and minimalist. Doesn't block access to entertainment or environmental controls in my vehicle. I don't count that it blocks the cd loading slot, because I never use it anyway.

I didn't want to stick the metal plate to my phone, so I stuck it to the interior of my phone's cover. Even though I have a normal sized phone, I used the larger metal disk--the one for "phablets" and small tablets-- for an extra firm grip.

Seems to work in my Lexus RX 450
by Joe Yancy (5 out of 5 stars)
August 21, 2016

I have been trying to find a good center console mount for my 2013 Lexus RX 450h. If you're an owner of this vehicle, you know that the CD slot is recessed which makes it difficult to find a good CD slot mount that actually fits this vehicle. While I'm not completely sure if this thing is latched onto the CD slot or the plastic frame leading up to the recessed CD slot, it seems to fit! It definitely took some time and trial/error for me to get this thing working (I've had it for maybe a week), but it seems that after repeatedly tightening the thing and pushing it toward the CD slot, and tightening it again after it gets loose from driving, the thing is now pretty sturdy! I still need to see how this works long term but for now I love the convenient location of the mount and the magnet makes it really easy to slap the phone there when I'm driving and remove it when I'm done.

I usually use my phone in an upright position (iPhone 5, yes I know it's old) and once tried to move it to landscape on this mount and it started slipping off. The phone should weigh the same no matter how it's oriented so maybe I just need to balance it a bit better or adjust the magnet location on the phone, but this is something to keep in mind in case you definitely want the phone to work well sideways.
