Worked for ONE year TO THE DAY!by Discriminating Buyer (1 out of 5 stars)

Failed exactly one year after purchase! Is this one of those products with a self-destruct chip that knows when its out of warranty! ;-)
I'm pretty bummed out because most reviews point to one or another Netgear extenders as the best type to buy, currently. I don't typically return with loyal patronage to a mfr who's product lasts ONE year...I might as well have rented one for $10/mo! It doesn't work on 5G channel at all anymore and drops 2.4G every few minutes even after firmware update and completely new set up. Have everything that can reach it running straight off my TP-Link router, now
DO NOT update to the latest firmware 1.0.1.78

DO NOT update to the latest firmware 1.0.1.78; it disables the extender! I was able to replicate this problem with multiple units. I have brought this up with Netgear Support. Unfortunately, Netgear is keeping this firmware up on their website, and encouraging users to update to this version. It shows lack of quality assurance and total disregard for their customers.

Synced to my Linksys E2500 router with no problems using the built-in setup app-utility. Syncs to my router wirelessly and I put it in the back bedroom which is closest to the backyard (where the RV is parked). Before I had this booster, if I was in my RV on my LGG3 cell phone my signal in the RV (connected to my router-network in the living room) would drop to 42Mbps (50-60ft away). When I sync to the Netgear booster it more than doubled the Mbps (best report was 140Mbps). The Netgear booster has a 2ghz and 5ghz broadcast. It also has wired-Ethernet ports so I can connect the old Ethernet-network printer (Brother 7820N) I have in my back bedroom which it had no problem recognizing and populating on my network. Booster has an on/off button which is unique and has many/most of the standard configuration options of any router. If this thing doesn't burn up in a few months I will update the rating to 5 stars
Wireless and fast lane mode

I needed more wifi range for my house since I added ring cameras all around had problems with connectivity. At first I was thinking of wiring my house with Ethernet cables all about but looked like to much work. I saw this product on youtube and read the reviews on amazon and purchased this extender. All I can say is wow this thing is unbelievable with range. Easy to use I adjust the extenders parameters to full range and used fast lane mode from 5g to 2.4g and wow the speeds are amazing just as good as my Verizon quantum cable modem and wireless now my home has coverage everywhere and outside. No cables to worry about and not drilling holes anywhere. My ring cameras are all functioning perfectly. So far very happy with the Product
God help you if you ever have to change your wifi passwords

It worked great for a long time, that is, until I needed to change my wifi password on my router. The website provided @ mywifiext.net does not work so you cannot adjust the password. Finally, when I did find an online troubleshooting tip that allowed me to change the passwords on the extender to match the router, I did and it still can't connect. Calling Netgear, they told me I had to move my router and extender to different parts of the house in order to troubleshoot it; talk about a painful experience. I should not have to take the time to unhook and move stuff all around the house just because I changed my wifi passwords... that is utterly ridiculous! It still isn't working. What a terrible pain in the neck.
A wonderful creation that does what it does very, very well.

This NetGear Nighthawk is a God send! I use this in combination with my NetGear Nighthawk 6 wireless router and dead spots are a thing of the past! There is no more Smart TV wireless pixelation of pictures in my far reaching office space no speeds have gone from 10 Mbps to 35-45 Mbps. Setup was a cinch...just read the directions and you'll be fine. It's sleek, thin design looks great on my desktop, and it is unobtrusive in its footprint. The feedback lights for status could be brighter, but that's the only negative that I can honestly think of...of course, dim lights are a plus if the Nighthawk is in your bedroom for sleeping purposes.I really like the fact that the NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 Desktop WiFi Range Extender blends right in on your desktop and what it does, it does very, very well.
2.4 Ghz. signal drops out every couple hours, repeatedly knocking my Ring Spotlight Camera Offline
by Paul Abrams (1 out of 5 stars)

UPDATED REVIEW: Today, my Netgear AC1900 Model EX7000 effectively died. It lights up, except for the 2.4 and 5 ghz lights, meaning neither wi-fi frequency works anymore. Can't get wi-fi on either one. It's as if this thing just slowly degraded then just died within 3 months of purchase and setup. I tried a reboot and even the recessed reset button. Nothing worked to fix this piece of junk. Hardware should still be under warranty but Netgear doesn't make it easy to exercise its warranty. Sorting through that mess right now.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: I thought I was getting the right extender to complement my Netgear Nighthawk router (which has been terrific for a couple years). Unfortunately, I was wrong. I bought this Netgear AC1900 EX7000 extender specifically to run my new Ring Spotlight Cam, which I mounted outside the garage looking over the driveway since that location was just a bit out of range for my existing Nighthawk router. But when the Ring camera kept going offline every couple hours I became concerned. During a process of elimination, I moved the Netgear extender to within 15 feet of my camera to ensure a good, strong signal. But the problem continued. Soon, I figured out the AC1900 Netgear extender is the culprit, not the Ring camera itself. Ring cameras aren't compatible with the 5 ghz band so I connected it to the entender's 2.4 ghz band. For whatever reason, the extender can't seem to maintain the 2.4 ghz signal for more than a couple hours without service interruptions, which subsequently knock my Ring Spotlight Camera offline. The Extender must be rebooted to fix the problem each and every time! I spent an agonizing hour on the phone with Netgear's Indian call center. The CSR dutifully followed her script and had me change the channels on my Nighthawk router, which she assured me would translate to the entender and solve my problem. The camera reconnected immediately and I was optimistic and overjoyed! I slept the sleep of the angels that night. The next morning, the camera was offline again. Frustrating! This has happened every night since setting up the Netgear extender. To verify that the problem was definitely with the Netgear extender and not the Ring camera, I selected the 2.4 ghz. signal from the extender as the primary wi-fi signal on my iPhone. Each time the Ring camera drops offline, I check my phone and sure enough I find that it has jumped from the 2.4 ghz signal to the 5 ghz signal, indicating the 2.4 ghz signal was lost due to a service interruption and the phone had to search for and find the 5 ghz signal as a backup. I researched the problem on the web and on the Netgear forums and discovered this is a widespread problem that apparently resulted from one of Netgear's firmware updates. Netgear still hasn't come up with a patch or new firmware update to correct the problem. What good is a security camera that can't stay online? Come on, Netgear! Maintaining the wi-fi signal should be the most basic and important job of a wi-fi system. You can do better than this! Is Google Mesh in my future? It will be if Netgear can't find a solution to this problem. I wish I'd gotten around to installing my system sooner. I waited out rainy days and a busy schedule for the perfect day to set up everything and now I'm past the point where I could've returned it to Amazon. I'm disappointed, defeated and angry. I have a month remaining of free Netgear phone assistance, after which time they expect me to pay them to help me. Really? And your call center in India makes the "help" process even more difficult. I can only understand every third word the CSR speaks and she can barely understand me so it only compounds the problem making for a very frustrating customer experience. My advice to others is to find a better wi-fi solution.
Unreliable, undependable, good looking POS.

frustrating experience with the product - this is what comes to mind as I write this review. I really wanted to like this product as the reviews from most users are stellar. But for me this product has been nothing but unreliable wifi connections. I have a 2 year old D-link AC3200, and that router has been rock solid. However, my house has certain dead spots due to the location of where my router is located. Hoping to relief the Wifi dead zones, I bought this extender. I have been getting constant 'no internet connection' status on multiple devices randomly as we browse different websites and doing different activities. The extender also slows down the wifi speed of my AC3200. When I turn this device on after a power cycle, it will affect the D-Link router and causes connection problems.
Maybe there's a compatibility issue between this NETGEAR extender with D-Link AC3200, but I don't have the resource or time to experiment with a NETGEAR nighthawk router to find out. I need a product that just works without much tinkering (I have enough things to worry about in my life then to debug a network router extender problem).
Good luck with your purchase.

*** UPDATE November 26, 2017 ***
My Nighthawk AC1900 Desktop WiFi Range Extender has failed (for a second time). As I wrote in my last update, the low frequency band lost performance slowly over time, and then simply stopped working. Changing the settings and finally doing a factory reset makes no improvement. Clearly a device that can, at one moment, work perfectly in my system, then, without provocation, not work the next is not the fault of the user. Tech support will (once again) put me through the ringer in a vain attempt to prove that the placement of the extender, relative to my router, is the problem and I will (once again) prove them wrong. Or, I could stop the nonsense and throw this paperweight in my trash. Since I have no way of knowing if this common, I encourage you to read the other reviews. This has been a terrible experience for me.
*** UPDATE November 15, 2017 ***
Agonizing experience. The low frequency performance has all but stopped (5Ghz still appears unaffected). I check speedtest.net, and what was 25MBps a month ago is now sub-1MBps. I have attempted restarts and full-resets to factory condition and the condition does not improve. The fact that it degrades over time, is all the proof that I need to implicate the device. The prospect of dealing with Netgear tech support is just too much to bear. I will use it in Fastlane Mode on the 5 Ghz band until that fails, then it's going into the trash.
*** UPDATE October 10, 2017 ***
I was originally very happy with the range extender, but with nearly one year of experience on which to report, the news is not good. My original range extender began showing signs of degradation within a month or two, but it was hard to determine whether it was an environmental problem, a Comcast problem, or a hardware problem because my test results were hard to quantify. Often a simple reboot restored performance, so I reserved blame on the cause for several months.
Then, I noticed that the hi-frequency (5Ghz) band just stopped working altogether and the speed on the low band dropped off like a rock. I am 75' LOS to the R7000 router, so signal was not the problem. Since you get a measly 90 days of phone support, I requested a replacement under the 1-year hardware warranty, and this is when it got weird... I was told that I needed to have phone support diagnose the problem, but phone support refused to take my call. Even after explaining that I had been referred, I still got the runaround (LOUD ALARMS SOUNDING!!!!). It took an unambiguous tone and a few carefully chosen words to trigger the warranty replacement, and this was received about two weeks ago. When I plugged that unit in, everything seemed to be in perfect order. Setup was straightforward, and performance was as expected. The extender was delivering 40Mbps at the 2.7Mhz band! I was relieved! Then, this morning after a week away, my performance is down 10x on BOTH bands! I've reset the router and extender... TWICE, and the results are the same. So, what has changed? Is this an aging issue? The R7000 router continues to function perfectly in the main house and I have zero complaints about it's performance, but this EX7000 range extender is just full of unpleasant surprises. If this continues to fail, I will post an update. For now, I cannot recommend this product.
Fantastic wi-fi extender!

This extender worked even better than I expected. In fact, the experts at Best Buy claimed what I wanted to do was impossible with out using an ethernet cable. I decided to try it anyway. My predicament: I live waaaaaaaay out in the country and internet is only available via satellite and is pretty costly. I needed to extend my wi-fi to the guest house which is roughly 150 feet away. Having read some of the reviews, I thought this might just do the trick. And, man, did it ever! First, I tried putting the extender in the pool house, which is about 1/3 of the distance closer to the guest house, but it didn't work. I was pretty bummed, but decided to see what would happen if I just set it up in the window of the guest house itself. BINGO! It picked up and amplified the signal beautifully. So, my advice is, if it's not working as you expected, try moving it to a few different locations. One of them is bound to work.
