Joseph joseph's Lock Block knife block provides the perfect solution. The innovative design locks knives safely inside the block and requires an adult-sized hand to operate it, meaning that most children aged 5 and under will be unable to remove any knife. As each knife is placed inside a knife slot, its blade is held securely by the unique cam-lock mechanism. Pulling on a knife only increases the force of the grip so knives cannot be simply forced out of the block. To remove a knife from Lock Block the release button, situated on either side for left and right-handed operation, needs to be firmly pressed. But due to its position and the force required to press it, only someone with an adult-sized hand can do this. This is just what I've been looking for. Our girls are seven and almost two, and while the older knows about the danger of knives, the younger is an acrobat and recently began to escape every method of child containment known to humankind.

We have a very sharp knife set, and I began to get paranoid about her reaching it and cutting herself: enter the Joseph Joseph Self-Locking Universal Knife Block. This really is genius, and I've found it works with knives as short as my 3.5-inch-long paring knife.

Hot tip: the longer you have it, the better it works. With some serious effort, I was able to pull my shortest knife (the 3.5-inch-long paring knife) almost out of the block at first, but now I can't get it to budge without using the release lever. At no point did I feel my almost-two-year-old would have been able to remove a knife from the block. No way, no how!

This block holds six knives, which was fine with me: I put my five most-used knives and one of my steak knives in there. The scissors and the remaining steak knives get stored on the uppermost shelf in my kitchen, which is no problem as I don't use them very often.

If you have kids, or babysit kids, or you're a daycare provider, I think you'll find this block well worth the money. I feel so much less paranoid since putting it in my kitchen, and heaven knows that's a good thing!

I'm a foster parent & ordered the knife block to prevent children from getting to the knives. Children cannot remove them from the block since their hands cannot spread far enough to release the lever on the side. It's sturdy, looks good and holds my colorful "Pure Komachi 2" knives securely. The only issue is, that like most households, we have more than 6 knives so if I could change anything - it would be to make it larger. I was aware that it could only hold 6 knives so I'm giving it a 5 star since it does exactly what it is intended to do.

This works great and keeps our knifes on our counter safe from young children. If you try to get a knife out without using the lock release they dont slip out .

Dislike that it doesnt fit the knifes I actually wanted to put in it, as they were too wide at base compared to slots. I also wish it fit more knifes not just six. Price is a little steep also for only fitting 6 knifes.

The 2 "top right" slots don't "lock". I tried different size knives that do lock in the other slots. I tried squeezing and unsqueezing the lock multiple times. Knives can be slid out of those 2 slots.

I contacted the seller who refunded right away.

Seems very effective at keeping knifes from kids. Bigger standard knives don't fit well, but well enough to feel safe. Plastic holding up so far, I imagine after a few years it may not. Hard to say. Can't clean the inside, so we make sure knives are very clean and dry before putting in.

I like this product. It does what I want it to, which is keep my 6-year-old who thinks he's old enough to "help" with knives, from being able to get at them. I would have given it 5 stars if it held more knives. It holds the ones I use most often, but, being an avid cook, I still have to go digging for other knives on a fairly regular basis.

First knife set worked great, so I Ordered a second that was defective from day one. Product would not lock. After contacting seller, it was promptly returned for a replacement knife package. Both work great, but concerned about long term durability.

I was looking for a way to keep my knives safe from my squirrel monkey. I love my knives extremely sharp, so this is absolutely perfect! I wish it had a place for my scissors also but other than that I love it!!
