One minus as an iPhone user...by Patrick (3 out of 5 stars)
December 31, 2015
I compare this to my Google Cardboard which I am new to in the past few weeks. I have been on the fence trying them both side by side for the past week. There is absolutely a great product here but needs a tweak. It feels nice when you adjust everything to fit your skull, and the construction really doesn't feel too bad. The visuals seem to be a step up on most apps compared to the cardboard, it feels more comfortable and you don't have to use your hands to hold it up to your face.
The drawback behind the reason I will be returning it.
I am an iPhone user and there is no "Clicker button" ( for lack of another term) that is a standard feature on most Google Cardboard viewers. You will have to take your phone out of the viewer and manually click on things on the screen for certain apps. Think of it as having a mouse cursor on the screen that you can't control unless you take off your headset, unstrap the viewer remove your phone from the unit and then do the aforementioned in reverse. If you have an android device they do manufacture a Bluetooth remote that will cover the above issues.
If they can work a button in I'm sold! I will keep an eye out!
It really is cool technology !
Destek vs Homido

This is the first time I ever bought this type of product, so I bought two. The Destek and the Homido. Destek padding around the Facemask is really uncomfortable. The area where you put your phone is hard to open. The lenses looked washed out. This is why I gave it to stars. Homido padding around the facemask is comfortable. The phone fits nicely in the Homido. The lenses look great. This is why I gave it a four stars. Destek is about half the price of the Homido.
Great price point. Best I've tried. Still not 100%

Really nice for the money, but like anything, not perfect. Hitting play then getting the phone all set up in the headset is a little wonky, but so are many other VR headsets. iPhones are especially tough, because there's no good remote control so often you'll miss the beginning of a video or you'll have to reach your hand in to try to tap the button. Having said that, the headset fits relatively comfortably on my head. The hard plastic nose rest isn't ideal and can probably benefit from softer nose pads. The weight on the bridge of your nose can get annoying after using the headset for a period of time. The iPhone 6+ fits securely into the unit, however if you are using headphones you may find you have to bend the cord around to accommodate the round edges that hold your phone in place. The adjustable diopter is very helpful, especially if you're nearsighted. The only real issue I have is that depending on the app you're using for playback, the black divider can be noticeable as you're eyes scan back and forth. In my case, I was watching content using the Kolor Eyes app which simply divides the screen in two, unlike some other apps that round the edges creating some black space between the two angles.
No bad

Google cardboard is a really cool idea, and the VR experience is pretty dang good for just a smartphone and a cheap headset like this. I used it with my Nexus 5 and it was a bit of a struggle to get it positioned perfectly before you put the lid back on. This would be much better if you had a larger 6' phone. The quality of the VR experience also depends on the ppi and resolution of your device. I wouldn't use this quite yet for gaming or movie watching, but the technology is us definitely promising. With the included nose guard, it doesn't feel to bad having it on for a while, it was mainly the motion sickness that did it in for me. But for movie watching and showing off a cool toy to your friends, this is a fun little toy to have.
Build: 6/10
Comfort (with addition nose insert) : 6/10
If you're looking for a jaw dropping, surreal VR experience, this google cardboard headset and others aren't quite there yet, but if you want something cheap and cool to show off to your friends, this is a good buy. Just watch out if you're easily prone to motion sickness like me.
Wouldn't recommend this model

First I'll say that this works as advertised and is easy to set up. Download the Google Cardboard app and watch 360 YouTube videos without much hassle. They include a nose pad and NFC sticker for free so at least they're proactive about the most common complaints for the item (you have to add it to your cart or they won't be included in your order. It will show as free when you hit checkout). The nose pad alleviates most if not all discomfort. I haven't figured out how the NFC sticker works yet but I'm sure it's fine.
But here's why I'm giving the item 3 stars. I use a Nexus 6 and I read from the reviews that it would fit. It does fit...barely. Like it's such a tight fit, it will often press the volume/power buttons on the side when you close it up, which is inconvenient to say the least. Oh and forget about having a case on it. It's a hassle to have to remove my phone case every time I wish to use the headset.
Also since this is NOT officially a Cardboard model, you don't get the nice little magnet button that lets you interact with the device while it's inside the headset. This means if you want to pause, play, or pretty much interact in any way, you have to take the headset off and remove the phone to tap the screen. Pretty annoying. I guess you could buy a bluetooth controller but I really don't want to spend the extra money for a single application. Real cardboard models have this feature built-in...and they're literally cardboard. You can do better than that, Destek.
Finally, also because it's not officially a Cardboard model, you don't have the option to change your settings. Field of view too low for your tastes? With Cardboard, you can adjust it. With this, you're stuck with the default settings. And the field of view is pretty dang low by normal standards, by the way. You may not mind but it does bother me. I often get motion sick from playing games with low fields of view.
All in all I would not recommend this model. It does what it says and it fits large phones...barely. So that's 3 stars for providing the bare minimum and no more.
If I remove the cover or replace it with the standard one it closes fine and remains in place

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with a wireless charging back. The back makes the phone a little thicker than the standard back. As a result the door on the viewer does not stay closed. The magnet is just not strong enough to hold the door shut if there is any pressure place on the foam pad that holds the phone in place. If I remove the cover or replace it with the standard one it closes fine and remains in place. So far I have no other complaints about the device. Most of the issues I have are with the phone and software. The Fire TV controllers I have tried so far has not worked very well with the VR software. Most of the buttons do not work. Again this is not the fault of the device but maybe if it had the magnet device it would allow some of the apps to function.
Once I got a video to work the view was amazing. In one of the videos I was standing on a platform in mid air and when I looked down I got a little dizzy. The same way I might if it was in the real world. I tried using one of the players to view a 2D movie presented SBS. It was like watching on a very large screen. I just got the free NFC and Nose Guards but have not used them yet. It appears that the nose guards will make long viewing times more comfortable. Adjusting the straps is a little more difficult than it should be but once done they provide a comfortable fit.
Nor the best for iPhone 6

I purchased this headset a couple of days ago because I wanted one with a head strap and some padding. First off, if you are using an iPhone there is no code to scan. After some internet searching I found one that would supposedly work, so I used it. The head strap and padding seemed nice good quality but that's about the only positive thing I can say. There is no button so if an app requires that you won't be able to interact also the lenses aren't adjustable leaving everything a little blurry for me. My iPhone 6 without a case wiggled around and didn't seat securely. I'm going to pass this off to my friend who has an android, maybe he will have a different opinion of it
Great Starter VR Headset!
by Brady Grove (3 out of 5 stars)

This was my first experience with a VR headset. I went with a cheaper headset for a couple of reasons. 1) I wasn't sure if I would enjoy the "VR Experience". 2) I wasn't ready to spend $100+ on a quality unit.
Overall, for the price, this is a great starter VR headset. Notice I said, for the price. This VR is not going to offer you high quality footage that is going to impress you. In fact, the footage is actually kind of fuzzy. This is probably due to the cheap quality of, what appears to be, plastic lenses. It does, however do what is supposed to and will give you a taste of the VR world. In fact, it has inspired me to go and buy a more expensive unit. This was after about, maybe, a total of an hour with the product.
The product was packaged surprisingly well for coming in at such a cheap price. They even provide you with a cleaning cloth for the headset.
Basically, the only complaint I have is this, there are no button controls. This really didn't upset me. It is to be expected when a product is at such a cheap price point. This to me, is a starter product. A great one at that. If you do not want to spend more money on a better quality VR headset then I would recommend you to get the Bluetooth remote. As many applications are worthless without a button feature.
I would recommend as does the manufacture, that you only view VR content for 30 minutes at a time. First off, it is probably not the best thing for your eyes. Second off, my iPhone 6s started to get a little hot after viewing the VR content. This of course had nothing to do with the viewer, but had all to do with my phone.
I would recommend this unit if you are unsure whether or not VR is for you. It was for me, so I have to thank the good people at DESTEK for giving me a glimpse into the wonderful technology, that is, VR Headsets.
3D and movie theater video, yes. VR, no.

If what you're looking for is to watch 3D SBS content or movies as if they were on a movie theater screen and you have a large phone, this will do the job. If however, you want a taste of true VR, this is not it.
VR:
I've tried the Oculus Rift DK2, Google Cardboard, the Homido, and this Destek. The Destek does not give a proper VR experience. The key factor is immersion; Without it it's not VR. This completely lacks it. With these phone headsets immersion is all from the lenses, the rest is up to your phone. While Cardboard and the Homido have a short focal length (focus distance from lens to screen) and are a pretty good example of VR that the Rift provides, the Destek has a longer focal length which when paired with a smaller screen feels like looking through a tube or watching a 3D TV at a distance. Immersive it is not. VR feels like you're *inside* the scene, not watching it.
Movies:
This is what this headset is really for, watching 3D or 2D movies as if you were in a theater. The bigger the phone screen the better. Small screens work in this regard too but not as well.
Design:
The viewing area is optimal for a 6" screen. Smaller phones are supported but it's clearly designed for large phones. I have a 4.7" screen and the only thing keeping the phone in place is the divider between the eyes. Larger phones will be held in by the sides and the divider. You lose a good portion of available viewing area with smaller phones. Additionally you end up seeing the bezel and exterior of the phone, and if you have illuminated buttons they become very distracting. The plastic is a tradeoff since it's lightweight but feels cheap. Phone securement is rudimentary but works. It uses a magnetic clasp to keep the lid closed and the piece of thick sponge on the inside lid allows different phone thicknesses. It held my phone fine, but was unable to hold an iPhone 6 with battery case, the case had to be removed. There is no button or magnetic switch (which isn't universal for all phones to begin with) for interaction. Straps are better to adjust before wearing the headset.
Comfort:
The headset is comfortable enough, so long as your nose doesn't touch the bare plastic. Be sure to add the free nose padding + NFC tag to your order if purchasing this (Don't worry about the price shown, the discount will be applied at checkout). The padding should have been there to begin with but at least they provide it separately for free as a stop-gap. I can't speak to how comfortable it is for a full length movie as I've only worn it for 30 minutes at any time. The weight of your phone will have the most impact on how heavy it feels.
Lenses:
The lenses are thin plastic fresnels and are pretty big, especially compared to the original 25mm lenses in Google Cardboard. The light from my phone's buttons ended up creating light beams to the center of the lens however, which negatively affects the experience. It gives a bit of a light bloom effect to the video. It's an issue for smaller phones with illuminated buttons. Larger phones are held in by the sides which might block any light. The product description claims a 90 degree FOV; I had no way to measure so can't confirm. The focal distance was around 65mm or so I believe, I forgot to write it down...
Price:
Honestly pretty much every phone headset out right now costs about twice as much as it should. No exception here.
Overall it depends what you intend to use this for. If you want to try VR for as cheap as possible I'd recommend picking up the new Google Cardboard (larger lenses and universal button) instead. It's honestly the better VR experience despite it being ...well, cardboard. If you want to upgrade from that to a proper phone VR headset consider the Homido or VR ONE or if you have the phone and the cash, Gear VR. No doubt there will soon be a release of more phone headsets and hopefully that'll include affordable ones that do mobile VR right. It really just comes down to the lenses for these things; good size, focal length, and FOV. Right now though it seems as if all of these <$80 ones have it wrong. For some reason they've decided to change the Cardboard spec instead of just making a headset version of it.
One of the coolest accessories you can buy for you cellphone... And a great seller.

This is the one coolest device I bought to go with my cellphone first a galaxy s4 then the galaxy s6. If you are into virtual reality or looking for an immersive movie experience this is well worth the money. Many folks have complained about the bridge piece against their nose, I find that a small piece of foam tape takes away all of that. This works so well I just wish I had a control button on the side but my next investment will be Bluetooth remote.
Two days after receiving this one of the lenses cracked and I contacted Thinkline to see if I could purchase a new lens. They said it was not an option but to my pleasant surprise they shipped a new unit at no charge! Awesome customer service!
A decent FPV starting point.

Okay, first, I have to state here that I purchased this for FPV with my quadcopter, NOT 3-D VR. I have my smart phone set up to receive the WiFi signal from my quad's camera. Then, with these goggles I can see (pretty clearly) what the quad sees, while I'm flying. It's a little distorted. But, the experience is still pretty amazing. The goggles are well made, good materials and fit my (fairly large and thick) cell phone very well. They are pretty comfortable and don't slip. If you're a 3-D gamer, you'd like these. If you're just getting into FPV flying and aren't ready to drop $500.00 on a set of 'Fat Shark' goggles, you might want to try these first.
