Product Description

The Cozyna Travel Manual Coffee Grinder is designed with a sleek and slender durable stainless steel body which makes it very easy to hold while grinding. Unlike electric blade coffee grinders, this portable manual coffee grinder delivers greater control over your grind as it uniformly grinds fresh coffee beans. Using a burr coffee grinder also helps to extract the aroma and flavor from the coffee beans whereas grinding with blade coffee bean grinders will actually heat the beans, ultimately resulting in loss of flavor. Another benefit to using the Cozyna coffee bean grinder compared to other coffee bean grinders is its adjustable grind size feature which allows you to make a variety of coffee drinks from french press and aeropress to espresso. Not only does the Cozyna Travel Manual Coffee Grinder produce better results, but its skinny stainless steel body also makes it the best coffee grinder for traveling and hiking. This hand coffee grinder was specifically designed to fit into an aeropress, creating the perfect traveling duo. Now you can have freshly ground coffee anywhere anytime!

ENHANCES FLAVOR: Unlike grinding with a blade coffee grinder, this Cozyna burr coffee grinder extracts the aroma and flavor from the coffee beans.

SLENDER DESIGN: While other manual coffee grinders may be difficult to hold while grinding due to their wide designs, the Cozyna coffee bean grinder is comfortable and very easy to hold in place while grinding coffee.

EASY TO CLEAN:The Cozyna coffee grinder can be disassembled into separate pieces allowing for a more efficient cleaning.

EXCLUSIVE LIFETIME WARRANTY:Buy with confidence, as if anything happens to your product, Cozyna will replace it "No Questions Asked"

Good for fine grinds, but...
by Ethan (3 out of 5 stars)
November 7, 2015

After using this grinder for a few weeks, I've found some issues with it that compelled me to write a review. I'll start by saying that if you plan on using this to grind beans strictly for the AeroPress or an espresso machine, it should perform just fine. If you want coarser grinds for something like a V60, though, you may start running into issues like I did. Let me preface this by saying I'm a mechanical engineer, so things are about to get technical.

The design of this grinder combined with the manufacturing tolerances of its parts lead to a pretty loose fit between the rotating shaft and main chassis. Basically, the whole assembly gets wobbly once you start loosening the thumbnut on the bottom. There are two burrs in the grinder. One is permanently attached to the chassis, the other is fixed radially but floating axially on the shaft. The point of the thumbnut is to change the axial distance between the burrs, thereby changing the size of the gap between them. This gap determines the size of the grinds that come out of the grinder. This whole design is dependent upon the burrs remaining concentric, but as soon as you throw a wobbly shaft into that mix, your ability to get consistent grinds goes out the window. If the shaft is able to wobble, the gap between the burrs is larger on one size than it is on the other, so your grinds range from incredibly fine to incredibly coarse, when you really wanted medium-fine. A side effect of this wobble is that the plastic components up at the top of the grinder get worn down by the sharp edge of the cap as you crank the shaft around, thereby creating a fine plastic dust that deposits on the top of the cap. I wouldn't be surprised if some of that powder was created on the underside of the cap as well, making its way into your coffee grinds.

Another minor gripe I have is the design of the plastic cup in the bottom portion of the grinder. It has a little channel around the inside edge that catches fine grinds, and you have to smack the bottom of the cup when pouring your grinds to get them all out. It's not a big deal, but if the bottom of the cup was just flat, this wouldn't be an issue. I don't see any reason why it has to be designed this way.

With all that being said, this isn't a bad grinder. It makes good fine grinds, is pretty easy to disassemble and clean, is small, and is good looking. But if you need coarser grinds, I'd think about picking up something like the Hario Skerton. There's even an aftermarket brace you can buy for it to avoid the exact problem this Cozyna has.

Quality issues
by Bradley Jobe (3 out of 5 stars)

The grinder works great out of the box, but it will eventually fail. I like the ability to fine tune how coarse the grind is. I used this grinder everyday from April 2015 until November 2015 when it failed. Plastic internal components do not withstand grinding forces. The stainless steel makes it look tough, but there are weak spots. I think it would work in a pinch, or just here and there. Buying it as a daily grinder is a mistake.

Pros:

Small and portable

Quiet

Can fine tune grind

Looks cool

Cons:

Hard for people with low grip strength to use

Will eventually fail, but after 7 months? Do you want to be in the woods with no ability to grind your morning brew?

Pictures demonstrate the plastic piece that turns the burr broker after seven months. Grinder dead.

Durability is limited
by Dena (2 out of 5 stars)
June 22, 2018

When I purchased this, the text indicated that it was guaranteed for life. Unfortunately, the first grinder stopped working and I wasn't able to fix the problem. Because it was purchased with a lifetime guarantee, I asked to return the product for a new one. The company did this. They sent me a new one and I threw the broken one away. Now the replacement is broken and I no longer have the option of returning the item (at least so far as I can tell at this point). If I had it to do over again, I would have bought a better quality grinder.

It wasn't an expensive product and I've gotten a lot of use out of it, but the company failed in its promise of a lifetime guarantee.

Broke after 6 months
by bernard893 (1 out of 5 stars)

I use it for an Aeropress so the little tolerance issues don't really effect my grinds. The thing that effects my grinds is when the plastic piece inside the ceramic piece breaks after 6 months of light use. Can't really grind if the grinder doesn't work.

Tried to contact them to get a replacement but all I got was crickets. I did find a replacement part for $3 on their site so I ordered it but it should've been covered under their warranty.

Overpriced, but cheaply made knock-off of Porlex ceramic coffee mill. Poor customer service.
by easy-rider (1 out of 5 stars)

Overpriced, but cheaply made knock-off of Porlex ceramic coffee mill. Looks like Porlex and even has a nice see through body. However quality is way far from the original Porlex made in Japan. This one made nobody knows where and plastic insert holding ceramic parts cracked after a few month of casual grinding 1/2 pounds a week - see photos. I sent an E-mail to [...]long time ago, but didn't get ANY response.. If you can't afford high quality product from Porlex, then you can without problem find on Amazon exactly the same see through Porlex knock-off at fraction of cost of Cozyna's junk. I would never buy any product fro Cozyna...

NO "EXCLUSIVE LIFETIME WARRANTY"
by Hez H- (1 out of 5 stars)
March 2, 2016

The grinder does a decent job, but don't expect to get more than 6 months life out of it. There is a plastic insert in the lower ceramic that will break with regular use. As for the "exclusive, lifetime warranty" there is ZERO paperwork indicating a warranty of any kind, no address, no telephone number, only a web address that takes you to photos & descriptions of the company's products.

Amazon needs to crack down on warranty claims that are unsupported. Especially with products that Amazon is warehousing and delivering.

Poorly designed unit - destined to FAIL with continued usage! AVOID!
by Harley Baldwin (1 out of 5 stars)
March 19, 2017

OK, I should admit that I HAVE had this unit since late-2015, and have used it fairly regularly...BUT I also saw (when opening it for cleaning the very first time) that some of the internal parts were made of brittle PLASTIC! A definite "NO-NO" for this type of function! Still, I continued to use it and it (finally) broke EXACTLY where I thought..the black plastic "insert" that fits into the ceramic burr simply broke into pieces, thus rendering the entire unit USELESS!

So, now we will see how good COZYNA Customer Service is! They plainly advertise a Lifetime Warranty, which (to me) means FOREVER, so I suppose they will be sending me a new unit (or replacement parts) every 3-4 years??

Not very efficient (nor very satisfying for a Consumer). Sorry Cozyna, bad engineering / design will now keep you "permanently indebted" to me for as long as I use this machine---or do I just buy another (better-designed) brand?

Cheap and Awful: Sometimes, You Get What You Pay For
by Bare (1 out of 5 stars)
January 25, 2016

Do not waste your time and money on this awful device. It seems nice upon first glance, and maybe even upon first use. However, one use is exactly the number I was able to get before this thing broke.

The internal components are poorly made and are not meant to be used (and removed, cleaned, and put back together again) more than one time. I bought this for my fiancee, and even during this first use, she had to hand it over to me to put a little more strength into it (and she's no weakling). So much for ease of use.

We cleaned and reassembled the device. The next time we went to grind some beans, I got through about three cranks before the thing got totally jammed and I couldn't turn it anymore. I went to remove the internals again to clean out the jam, put it back together, and could no longer turn it at all. This thing was completely worthless after just one use.

I repeat, do not waste your time or your money.

Great while it lasted...
by Sally (2 out of 5 stars)
July 24, 2015

Review in 2017: This was great while it lasted, but the gear at the top stripped relatively quickly (the handle fits like a nut on a bolt, turning a drive shaft for the grinder, and this is now stripped). We only used it for travel, so it's not like I've used it continually for 2+ years. I'll replace it with something similar, but a different brand.

Original review in 2015: Great for travel, and gives us fresh ground coffee away from home without having to carry a bulky or heavy item, or one that doesn't work in foreign electric outlets. It grinds well, and though it takes quite a few turns, they are not hard to do and you can easily tell when all of the coffee has been ground. The grind is reasonably easy to get correct, but would be a pain to change daily if different users need different grinds. It is fairly compact and slides into the Aero Press plunger (but be careful not to put the little cap in, as its pretty difficult to get back out). We bought this item for travel, and it suits that very well. I wouldn't buy this for everyday use at home, preferring the convenience of an electric burr grinder, and I doubt that I'd take it backpacking if ounces make a difference.

Weak inner parts
by Corey Brower (1 out of 5 stars)
May 2, 2019

This grinder started out great! Worked very well for about 10 months. Then mid grind it broke. One of the plastic parts holding the grinding burr together broke and it stopped grinding. I looked into the warranty and they state Lifetime Warranty. So I contacted the company via email. I never heard back. I sent more than one email. Nothing. I put it in the back of the cabinet and forgot about it. I recently found it again and got disappointed that it quit working and am now just reviewing. I don't know if the company has since upgraded the parts that were breaking, because they never responded to me. Anyway, I would recommend spending the money on a better grinder.
