The gate is cheap and fragile.

Not a fan of this at all. I'm a level III rope access technician which means if a while working I'm responsible for rescue at heights. Unfortunately in the facilities I work at they are adamant about no pocket knifes allowed. Well a knife can be the difference between a fast and efficient rescue or a drawn out one so I buy carabiner knives as to disguise it. Which is fine since I'm only going to use it in an emergency to cut rope or webbing. When I opened this thing out of the package and pushed on the gate to open the carabiner the pin holding the gate on popped out about halfway and the gate cocked to the side. I got some pliers and pushed the pin back in but now I can't trust this thing to hang on my harness all day because the gate,seems very fragile. I would not recommend this product.

I like this product very much. I'm not a knife enthusiast but needed something that didn't look like a knife to use periodically for cutting or opening things that I could keep close at hand.

First of all, the blade itself isn't very large. So I wouldn't rely on it as a primary self-defense weapon. It's more of a handy blade. That said, on a recent late-night Greyhound bus trip from Chicago to Toronto, I felt a bit safer having it at the ready as there were sketchy people all around. In fact, it's great for traveling. I unknowingly left it attached to my carry-on backpack on a recent flight from LA to Chicago and back. The TSA did not question it either direction. However, I don't suggest taking it through TSA. If it did get confiscated, I was okay with giving it up and purchasing another one for the price on Amazon.

Yes, the aluminum gate seems slightly flimsy and doesn't seem to snap back in the right place each time, but it's fine for me as I don't rely on the carabiner to carry heavy loads. Rather, I use it to clip onto my belt loop or backpack strap. It's pretty durable so far as the plastic/rubber parts sandwich the steel core. I've taken it traveling, backpacking, and to the beach without any concerns besides rinsing the sand and dirt out of it every once in a while. It still looks good.

The grip design is very comfortable in my hand and could pack and slightly extra punch if in a fight. Even if the blade wasn't exposed, the pointed plastic end could do so some extra damage.

Some people wrote that they attach it to their keys. For me, it's a little large to do that. I have a separate key shaped tool for that. Someone mentioned that the mechanism to hide the blade was too stiff. I think it's appropriately stiff as one doesn't want that blade to move accidentally while using it.

For the price and what it does, I think it's a great value. I take it everywhere when I travel along with my knife proof backpack and personal alarm.

Once concerns I have is the blade is sharp (pointy) at the end, but the slicing blade itself isn't as sharp as an X-ACTO knife blade. I could trace my finger over it and not worry about being cut. It's okay for opening up packages, but I think it would be a bit of work to cut through rope, twine or leather. Can someone at StatGear tell me how to replace the blade or should just try sharpening it or is this how it was designed to be?

Absolutely useless as a carabiner, even if you were just collecting keys. Knife mechanism is somewhat tight and confusing, and knife itself is almost completely useless unless you're opening up the mail.

WOULD NOT USE FOR SELF DEFENSE. You wouldn't intimidate anyone. And if you managed to survive the 30 seconds while you juggled with the mechanism, you wouldn't make a dent in your offender. Probably cut yourself with the lack of any offensive grip (compare a karambit).

This is a very well made little tool, which could be used in emergency situations, one of which would be to cut off your seat-belt if it's jammed and smash through your car window with the other end if the door is stuck.

Kind of like the "life hammer" but on your side all the time.

Of course I could imagine other scenarios in which it would come in handy, but I'm not too sure of just how effective it would be in some of them.

In any case, it's not cheap, but it's not too expensive for the build quality and the useful qualities it has or may have.

The only thing I don't like is the carabiner doesn't close all the way automatically sometimes so I have to do it manually. A typical carabiner thing. Good little knife. Won't stand up to cutting a small branch. Maybe a twig but I haven't tried.

A little bulky to fit in the hand at first. I got it predominantly to use with my keys. It's got some weight to it though also which is nice. It took a little getting used to but I didn't have anything else attached to my keys before. The blade is sharp and I really like the size. Not too big, but not too small. If you want bigger, just go ahead and get a pocket knife.

Very sharp and sturdy. I wish a more robust way to add a key ring could be designed into it. I tried adding it to a regular key ring but it easily comes off so I might end up losing this valuable tool.

I purchased this as a stocking stuffer for my brother, and his exact words were "****ing awesome." Extremely sharp, easy to open, and easy to use left or right handed. Weight and size are just right.

I like having this little knife attached to my keys. Nobody has a clue there's a knife on it. Very awkward to hold in hand if you had to use it as a karambit.

This product is just plain cool. Bought one for myself and liked it so much that I bought one for my son-in-law. He loves it too. Great way to always have a knife on you.
